City Furniture question

Does anyone have an opinion on City Furniture quality? Is there another furniture place that is reasonably priced and quality is good.
Thanks,
Leanne

We got our furniture at White's Furniture. We were happy with prices, quality, and service.

retiredguy123 12-20-2020 02:07 PM

I have a lot of furniture from City Furniture. It is cheap, but seems to be doing well. A lot of people do not like the service they get from City Furniture, but I didn't have any problems. Babettes is a good place to buy furniture. I don't think any reasonably priced furniture is made as well as it used to be. I have a reclining loveseat from Babettes where the color came off within a few months. It is Flexsteel, which is supposed to be a good brand, but I don't agree.

We shopped at White’s, mid level quality furniture, nothing high end, slightly more expensive but good service, and Babettes. From reading posts about City Furniture we stayed away from them.

I don't typically like to bash businesses, but for $hitty Furniture, I will gladly make an exception. Run away from them as fast as you can. They are without a doubt the worst company I ever did business with. Very poor quality furniture, worst customer service ever experienced, bait and switch sales gimmicks, and horrible delivery (and they won't let you pick up the furniture yourself). On the day we closed on our new home, after waiting 4 hours past our delivery window, they finally delivered and installed our new bed. In the middle of the night my wife rolled over and the bed collapsed and we both went crashing to the floor. And the dam thing was installed as good as the piece of junk possibly could have been, it was just so poor quality that it could not support the mattress and two adults. The customer service story following that is nothing short of a total nightmare. Stay away from $hitty furniture.

We prefer the quality of older furniture, so we buy used for MOST stuff. Either at tag/yard sales or thrift shops. Some things like the bed, our recliners, and the futon couch we bought new. Everything else though are either antiques, our own family heirlooms, repurposed from previous jobs, or gently used and in excellent condition.

This person is spot on-- I also bought a HOUSE full of this crap- it's made very deep in china and will fall apart. I donated it ALL !

Use to be about every month someone would post about their terrible experience with City Furniture. Haven't seen those this year, maybe they have improved or maybe people quit buying there. The consensus is the best furniture around is at Babettes, especially if you want real leather. They have a big store in Leesburg on 441 across from the airport and a smaller store at Brownwood across from Gators Dockside. I made the mistake of buying what I thought was leather from Kane's Furniture in Ocala, they're a Florida chain have been around for 70 years, however their furniture is bonded leather and will wear out in 2 years, I know firsthand.

Here's a couple of threads on your question already with many answers. I found great value at Badcock in the shopping center in Wildwood. I decided I didn't want to pay for real leather and wanted something easy to keep clean, so went with vinyl. Prices are great, and the used stores weren't much cheaper. Here's our living room set five years old from Badcock, I recently took these photos because we just installed wood floors and to had to buy area rugs.

This set comes in cream or medium brown. The recliners are $400 and the loveseat is $700 at Badcock of Wildwood.

My Flexsteel reclining loveseat was "real" leather and the color started coming off in about 4 months. But, Babettes did everything they could to fix the problem. Excellent service.

Wow, that'll ruin your sleep! That happened to my husband's twin bed once when we were in a $20/per night hotel room in Peru. He put it back together but it did the same thing the next night. Maybe City Furniture's rejects end up there.

City is junk. Rooms to Go , Kanes, Family Furniture and Babbetts were good for us.

We furnished two bedrooms with City Furniture and experienced no problems with quality or service.

The remainder of our furniture was purchased via Babettes and we are satisfied with our purchases there. We used Babettes for help with design and color choices as neither of us has an eye for interior design. They were helpful and we like the results.

bagboy 12-20-2020 04:29 PM

We bought a sofa and loveseat 4 years ago at City Furniture. The sofa was of inferior quality, and we were flat out lied to about a refund on an unused power seat warranty. I can't say I wasn t warned by posters on TOTV about City Furniture. I guess I had to find out for myself.
I won't do business with City Furniture again.

Kenswing 12-20-2020 06:03 PM

Babette's in Leesburg is huge. Great selection and I guess reasonable prices. I wouldn't buy a mattress there but everything else seemed okay. And if they don't have anything you like they have another store right next door called Lifestyle by Babette's. I think between the two stores there's close to 70,000 square feet of showroom.

Right now they're having a 15% off for the holidays sale. Be advised though that some furniture is getting to be like appliances with a several month backlog due to covid.

Babette’s

We bought several items of furniture at Babette’s, very happy with their prices and service. I shopped the internet for items we liked at Babette’s and found Babette’s pricing to be better than online prices.

Mincey596 12-20-2020 10:22 PM

Thanks for all the advice!

Mincey596 12-20-2020 10:23 PM

Thanks for all the good information.

Avoid it like the plague.

krash 12-21-2020 07:17 AM

City Furniture doesn't manufacture their own furniture... they are just a distributor, a store, like Publix. Granted, they lack customer service. But you can also find the same exact furniture sold elsewhere in local stores and online, although it most probably will be called a different "set" name.

Tommyc6 12-21-2020 07:29 AM

Try Payne furniture outlet on 441 in Summerfield.

will1546 12-21-2020 07:46 AM

Go somewhere else. Quality is poor at best.

Carla B 12-21-2020 11:19 AM

Most furniture now is manufactured in either China or Viet Nam these days. Even "better" brands. We have two large pieces from Bernhardt, which is supposed to be a "better" brand. It was made in China. The finish coat is like hair spray and very uneven. Our bedroom furniture came from Viet Nam. It is somewhat better but doesn't compare to what used to be made in the U.S.

Kent furniture in Bellview .... it’s as good as you can find. Service is good, too.
Go in and ask for Kent....even if it’s just to browse. He makes furniture buying fun. I like Babette’s also, and I’ve been to City furniture too. Bought at all three stores.

Garywt 12-26-2020 06:47 PM

We bought everything from City Furniture. We love the furniture and the delivery and set up were great. There was a piece or two they would not deliver because it arrived damaged so they got replacement pieces. We had selected everything online and then checked it out live when we bought the house. Next day delivery was good so we only had one night on an air mattress.

RichP 12-26-2020 07:39 PM

I moved to The Villages without any furniture and bought most of my furniture from City Furniture in Ocoee. I should have only had 6 deliveries, but ended up having 16 due to damage with so many items. My Neighbors thought I was dealing drugs because the City Furniture Truck was in front of my house so often. Their Customer Service is horrible. They do have a large selection of contemporary furniture which is the only reason why I put up with their Customer No-Service.

City Furniture is similar to Ashley's or Room to Go in that they are relatively inexpensive and have furniture that comes with extremely limited options but is in stock in a warehouse and delivered quickly. You choose color A, B or C and you get it in a day or two. The quality is not top-of-the-line, but it's not junk either.

We've also bought locally at Family Furniture in Leesburg and had good experiences. We just ordered another piece (a love seat) from them the other day. You pick a piece, then you pick the fabric, you pick the cushion firmness, you pick the type of wood for the legs and pick the fabric for the included pillows. You pay them 25% down and then wait 12-16 weeks to get the piece built, shipped to them and delivered to you. Their prices are definitely higher than City Furniture and the quality is higher as well though they still aren't top-of-the-line either. There are much, much more expensive stores out there.

It's all down to how specific your furniture desires are, what your budget is, what your patience level is for getting the furniture and what level of quality you find necessary.

In stock and delivered quickly is my kind of store.

I have to pick a fabric and wait 12 to 16 weeks? I may forget what I bought or even that I bought something. No way.

We ordered a couch and a couple of love seats from Babette's a couple of weeks ago. They won't be in until May. The Villages will build our house in less time than Southern Motion can build our furniture. :1rotfl:

We had several terrible experiences with City Furniture in Spanish Springs and in South Florida. Will never ever buy from them again. Damaged furniture, poor quality, missing items, delivery people damaged our walls and floors on the day we closed (and denied it!), and furniture has not held up well. As if all that was not bad enough, worst customer service of any furniture store I have ever dealt with. Their way of "satisfying" you is to offer you a small credit for a future purchase. It was the only bad experience I had with my entire home purchase at TV. Read the reviews, check the BBB complaints against them. Buyer beware!

Shop at Babette’s instead.

Igolf 12-30-2020 06:22 AM

Go the used furniture route. This site, Nextdoor, Facebook marketplace. Takes some time and patience but it will pay off.
