Would appreciate recommendations on two auto questions.

2) trustworthy, reliable reasonably priced auto mechanic

Thanks

I agree, Wildwood tire is excellent, as well as Sumter Tire.

Mortal1 12-27-2020 08:02 PM

Michaels(or Mikes)garage in Fruitland Park. Reliable and honest. Looks decrepit, but excellent work and honest as the day is long.

Fredster 12-27-2020 08:31 PM

#1 Sumter Tire
#2 Wildwood Tire
Have had good experiences at both!

MSchad 12-27-2020 08:58 PM

Sumter Tire for both oil changes and mechanical needs. Reliable, fast and very reasonable prices.

Glennjy 12-28-2020 06:15 AM

Hutson Automobile in Fruitland Park is very reliable and very honest. Prices are reasonable. Family owned and they have been there for over 20 years.

Michael’s Auto Repair in Fruitland Park. Just off 466a on N Villa Ave before the light on 441/27. Look for the big blue building. You can’t miss it. 352-365-2966

Agree 100%. His price is right, very honest and a great mechanic. Don’t be fooled by the looks of his building

I have used Goodyear over by Sam's on 441 for years. They have serviced both mine and my husband's truck for multiple issues. They are great and are always willing to work with you. They have gone as far as brought me to work and pick me up so they can service my vehicle. Dean and his crew are amazing.

davephan 12-28-2020 07:50 AM

You didn't mention the make of your vehicle. We own a Toyota, and always have the oil changes done at the Toyota dealer. The cost of the oil change is probably a little higher at the dealer, but the oil change only needs to be done once year, so a slightly higher cost is insignificant. The reason to get the oil change done at the dealer is the free multipoint inspection that is included with the oil change. Sometimes, other problems are discovered that need attention. I think its better to properly maintain your vehicle to increase your vehicle's reliability. If your vehicle isn't relable, you're walking.

Bingo.
I don't have a Chevy, but I take my GM to George Nahas Chevrolet.

Quality Tire on 466 near 441

Kmorrell 12-28-2020 08:03 AM

Accutech on 301 in Oxford. We have used them for oil changes and have been very happy.

NanciO 12-28-2020 08:07 AM

We have used Wildwood Tire Company for 8 years (for oil changes and any automobile needs). We believe them to be fair and knowledgeable and locally owned.

greenflash245 12-28-2020 08:10 AM

I like to avoid Firestone, Goodyear etc as their mechanics are not necessarily certified. stick with an independent

tjboxer79 12-28-2020 08:23 AM

Oil change/ mechanic

Oil: tuffy on 441 $49 for synthetic. Mechanic: Hilton Automotive on 441/42.

airstreamingypsy 12-28-2020 08:27 AM

I bring my American truck to Sumter Tire in Wildwood, and my German SUV to Accurso in Oxford. Both very honest, won't try to upcharge you.

Tire Kingdom

garrykolb 12-28-2020 08:59 AM

I'll weigh in on Tire Choice off 466 near Golden Corral...stay away.

My first experience was fine - I blew out a tire on my golf cart on a Sunday and Kart Aide suggested Tire Choice. They put on tires - perhaps a little expensive, but quick and friendly and got me back on the road quickly.

So, when I needed an oil change on my GM full-sized SUV, I opted for Tire Choice. My fault that I didn't ask the price. When they were wrapping up, they said it was $160. Holy crap, for an oil change? I asked why and they said my engine took 8 quarts of synthetic. OK, but $160?

I paid and waited for them to finish. While waiting, I decided to call the dealer in Ocala. An oil change for my vehicle? $59.

I went and talked to the manager and he said that was a standard 5-quart oil change. I called the dealer back on speakerphone and again, asked for the price for an oil change for my specific vehicle. $59. $67 or so out the door with the oil disposal fee and such.

The manager said they price-match and refunded my purchase and then charged me $66. He was grumbling that the dealer was losing money at those rates, blah, blah, blah.

If I hadn't called the dealer, I would be out $100 for absolutely nothing. Needless to say, that's my last experience with Tire Choice as they seem to have a policy of charging whatever they think they can get away with.

rockyhyder 12-28-2020 09:08 AM

We use Sumter Tire & Auto for both. Great service and fair prices.

DeanFL 12-28-2020 09:08 AM

.
.
We go to Accurso Automotive - just off 466 across from Walmart. They use AMSOIL - argurably the BEST synthetic oil on the market. Had our Mercedes serviced there the last 2 years. They are very thorough and very competent. IMO better than traveling an hour to MB Dealer and paying 5x $$ for their bulk synth oil.

I’ve been taking my cars to Boulevard Tire on Hwy 441 In Lady Lake for the past 15 years. Great mechanics and service. They do it all.

Redwood8300 12-28-2020 09:28 AM

If you subscribe to Consumer Reports they have a new section on Certified Shops. There are a few in our area and the closest would be Emerson Street Auto which is on Emerson street in Leesburg.

I've been going to Boulevard Tire for several years. I think they are knowledgeable, fair, and honest. I feel the same about Michaels Automotive in Fruitland Park.

DAVES 12-28-2020 09:53 AM

Interesting that so many of the recommendations are something or other Tire.
I too have used Wildwood Tire and was well pleased. I used them for a flat. It was patched on the inside, the proper way to do it. It was quick, pleasant and done right.

I do have a Chevy and use George Nahas Chevrolet. Again we've been pleased.

As to Tire dealers for service, my opinion like everything else there are good and their are bad. Not in Florida. At one time I was using Firestone. A rear brake job. I saw their,"mechanic," do it. Rather than properly backing down the shoes, he just used a big sledge hammer. He broke the cooling fin off the drum. There is no way that wheel assembly will ever properly balance and it is likely the drum had cracks in it. I spoke to the desk manager he called out the guy who did it. The repair guy denied the whole thing and claimed it was like that. I went with the manger to the work bay and picked up
the piece off the floor.

We've all had bad experiences somewhere and sometime. Realize you are trusting the shop with your safety and your life.

Yes, Bill Bryant (sp?) is VERY good at finding something additional wrong with your car when you just went in for an oil change!
We have used Bobby at Acu-Tech for years. Great service, reasonable prices, honest.

Different strokes for different folks. Finding something else when you are in for an oil change. When they have your car on the lift for an oil change they can see things we many not be aware of. For me that is good and proper service. Trust? If, and some do,
a mechanic damages stuff so they can charge you to repair, that is of course criminal.

When, to do stuff is often a matter of opinion. Many cars come with lifetime transmission fluid. What does that mean? You choose to follow their advice and you need a new transmission. The fluid did last the life of the transmission. Others will say if you change the fluid it will cause the transmission to fail. I had mine changed. It is fine. Was it a waste of money? I will never know or be able to prove it one way of the other.

Was it even done? I put paint or nail polish on the head of a screw or bolt that needs to be removed to do a job. It is then easy to know that the job was done. An oil change.
I check that the oil filter that I out nail polish on is gone and that the oil is clean and up to the proper mark on the dipstick. Not to me but I recall a friend had his engine seize
because the guy who changed his oil put the wrong filter on and the oil leaked out on a highway trip. ???? Mal practice AUTO?????

Reasonably priced would be my first concern. Personally if you want a reasonably price check to see what oil & filter cost if you would be doing it yourself, not that you’re doing it yourself but then check & see how much more some of these suggestions are charging over & above what it would cost you to do it yourself. Then you can judge for yourself if it’s reasonable! To do it yourself it’ll cost about $25. Good Luck!

sloanst 12-28-2020 10:51 AM

Sumter Tire for everything.

Curtisbwp 12-28-2020 11:00 AM

Where did you have your oil changed where tou come from?
I buy two cars every 2 tears, except this year. Toyota tacoma needs oil change every 10,000 miles, toyota Rav 4 every 4,000 miles. I gi to dealer.
