That's great news. Like BJs better than Costco or Sams.

Was hoping for Costco but when open will pay them a visit.

BJ's gives away free 3-month memberships all the time. Costco doesn't need to. Should tell you something. Doesn't come close to Costco IMO.

I would pick BJ’s over Costco everyday. Never could figure out why people like Costco so much.

John_W 01-04-2021 10:51 PM

Before moving here in 2011, in the Baltimore suburbs I had a BJ's one mile away, a Costco eight miles away and a Sams Club ten miles away. After browsing through each store, I really didn't see a whole lot of difference. So of course I joined the one a mile away, BJ's.

I belong to Sams here, but only go maybe once a month at most. That's just for one item, a pound of lump crab meat for $20, nobody else here stocks it and my wife can make Maryland Crab Cakes that are delicious. One pound can make about 8 crab cakes. That's it, I don't buy anything else because I can never use that much of any one item.

BJ’s seems to have about an 80% overlap with Sam’s Club, and I found that everything I wanted I was getting from Sam’s. I would join Costco if it were here, as it has a high reputation, but not BJs.

Heyitsrick 01-05-2021 07:03 AM

BJs has military and veterans membership discount pricing on memberships. 25% off plus a coupon the first time. (Membership renews at discounted rate.)

You have to verify your military history with "id.me", and once that's done, you're good to go.

Get over 25% off your BJ’s Wholesale Club Membership PLUS a $10 coupon - ID.me

I go to Sam's once a month any buy almost everything I need for a month. Paper products, canned and jared foods, frozen foods etc. I freeze about a month's worth of meats.

I don't understand people that say that they can't use enough of things.

mydavid 01-05-2021 07:17 AM

I never been a fan of paying for a membership so I feel obligated to spend my money in their store.

Theyre all bulk buying stores which look the same. Costco does give free months for new members. So does Sams. Theyre all the same just diff name. Ill stick with Publix

Bay Kid 01-05-2021 08:17 AM

Doesn't everyone need a gallon of mayo?

Jerry Leinsing 01-05-2021 08:18 AM

Sam’s loss-leader is the cooked chickens. They are huge for $5. Get two every two weeks for 4 sit down dinners, 2 to 4 sandwiches, 6 meals chicken rice soup. Or a pile of home made individual chicken pot pies. Yum.

Kensan1 01-05-2021 08:37 AM

I agree doesnt compare to Costco I never liked the BJs in New Jersey

laboutj 01-05-2021 09:00 AM

I've had both Sam's and BJ's memberships, not at the same time. Only reason I get them is when I need tires for the cars. Each store will run a special at some time during the year for a deep discount on a set of four tires plus installation. For everything else you have to know your prices going in. Most times Walmart is cheaper for the same item, be it in a much smaller quantity

PennBF 01-05-2021 09:03 AM

Use to Belong

We lived for years on the beach near Stuart, Fl and belonged to the BJ Store near us. I agree with the ones who rate Sam's Club about 10-20% better than BJ's although we liked BJ's when they were the only ones near us. We have now used Sam's for many years and like them. From what I have heard we would probably use Costco if they came to The Villages location. As the saying goes, "When your not near the Store you love, you love the store your near"!

vintageogauge 01-05-2021 09:03 AM

Over the years we have belonged to all 3 and after our initial visits we rarely went back if at all, joined Sam's down here twice already and never went back. I really don't see what is so great about them. I wanted to buy some new work benches/tool chests for the garage at Sam's and they were junk, went next door to Home Depot and got a much better product with a longer warranty for less money. I also don't like to freeze a bunch of meat, I prefer to get it when we want/need it and make it fresh. Paper products are always on sale somewhere.

Carla B 01-05-2021 09:21 AM

John W.: I can't imagine only buying one thing (lump crab meat) at Sam's. After many times of forgetting to pick up this or that from Sam's, I made a master list of items to check for before every Sam's run. I thought there wouldn't be many but the list turned out to have 45 items on it.

Joe C. 01-05-2021 09:28 AM

All three stores are pretty much the same. I'd go to whichever is closer, except when I need something in particular and only one store has it. But no matter what, BJ's coming here is a good thing. Maybe it will force the stores to lower their prices .....competition can be a good thing.

Really? News to me. The only reason I joined Costco is that they gave away (with coupons) more than enough to cover the first year's membership.

Same price for cooked chickens at BJs.

Costco is the best. Joined sam’s because do not want to make the drive to Costco. Sam’s is okay.

Mike193534 01-05-2021 09:53 AM

Is their a recipe for those great looking crab cakes?

You need Old Bay Crab Mix. We use to be to find these at Publix. The packets are handy because they have the recipe on the package and it was the right amount. We even have a hard time finding them online unless you want to pay $7 apiece for what was $2 back in Baltimore. So we buy the can size, which Publix and sometimes the big Walmart will stock, but it doesn't have the recipe on the can.

Here's a packet.

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/s...8Be81&usqp=CAc

Here's the Recipe

2 teaspoons of Old Bay
2 slices of white bread ripped up
2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon of yellow mustard
1 egg beaten
1 pound of lump crab meat

Mix it all up in a big bowl and then form crab cakes, my wife can usually make 6 to 8 and put then a pan in the refrigerator overnight. You can fry them in a frying pan, I use to do that and use the side burner on the grill outside because the seafood smell can be strong inside the house when cooking. You would flip them a couple of times, sometimes they will fall apart when frying if you're not careful.

Now we bake in the oven at 380 for 15 minutes and then the broiler for 2 minutes to brown the tops.

Take them out and eat with cole slaw and baked beans, sliced tomatoes, green onions. I like them on a hamburger bun with lettuce. I had one in Key West at Sloppy Joe's on a bun and it was delicious. You can put Lea & Perrins Worschestershire sauce on them if you like, I no longer do that. For lunch you'll have 1 or 2 and then the rest for later, put them in a container in the refrigerator. When your ready, put them on a plate and in the microwave for about 20 to 30 seconds.

I like it this way, on a bun with lettuce and tomato.

Limited storage. I have a small pantry, and a normal sized fridge/freezer (freezer on top) with an icemaker taking up around 1/6 of the freezer. I don't trust our bread box for bread because of mold and cockroaches, so I keep all my bread in the fridge. I can only keep 2 loaves in there at a time, it just takes up too much space for more than that.

Paper products I can get cheaper at Walmart with a coupon, or at Staples when they have clearance sales on slow-selling products, so that's where I get them.

Looking forward to the traffic jams! .

Watch the video, it’s an exact copy of Costco. If it were a Sam’s or Costco people would be saying that store is better than BJ Warehouse or any of the others. Just enjoy the store & pay your membership! Of course it’s better than the other 2 it’s the one coming to TV.

we are all entitled to our own opinion. Pretty boring world if we all had the same opinion.

We’ve belonged to both Sams and BJs. The only Sams in my state was closed a couple of years ago and that was after a 1year shutdown to remodel the store. When we are up north we use BJs because there is no Sam’s. When we are in Florida we use Sam’s because the BJs store is a longer drive to Clermont. I have found the Sam’s both in Ocala and Lady Lake to be run down looking because of their age they need to remodel. Maybe with the arrival of BJs, Sam’s will sharpen up their store.

giorgio1948 01-05-2021 12:50 PM

Where in Lady Lake?

TimeForChange 01-05-2021 01:07 PM

Costco by far is better than either Sam's or BJ's. If you don't know why then you really don't go to Costco enough to understand. We take a 55 minute drive every month to go to Costco in Orlando.
