Sumter Landing Dental Care
Have been a patient of Sumter Landing Dental Care for 5 years.
Wonder if any one else has experienced the following : After my last dental cleaning in June of 2020 or so, a new appointment was made for cleaning for Nov.2020 - they called and rescheduled that for Dec.due to Covid - OK no problem - then they rescheduled that one for Jan.7, 2021 - ok still not allarmed - then on Jan.4, 2021 they contacted me to let me know that the Doctor wasn't in that day and they had to reschedule ....... for JUNE of 2021 . due to Florida law that the Dentist has to excam prior to cleaning ! What the HECK is going on at Sumter Landing Dental Care ! ! ! Very unhappy with the whole issue - it can't be JUST because of the Covid issues. (and all that after I spend more than 10 thousand dollars out of pocket with them in the last 2 years ! Anyone else that has this experience with them ? |
i use them, & yes, they have VERY STRICT covid rules, but i don't think it's just them. dentists have a different protocol because they're routinely exposed to various body fluids. if all you spent was 10 grand, consider yourself lucky, lol. i've had some appointments cancelled, but what can you do? speak to the office manager herself, she will do her best. in the meantime if you have pain, you can directly make an appt with an oral surgeon, but some treatments/surgeries may not be covered

I still have not found a dentist I trust, after three years in T.V. .. Without fail, all trying to expensive up sale me with different procedures, after initial cleaning.. Coming in from the Keys, had Everything taken care of before leaving the keys, including two implants...I know from the X-rays, that the damage they were showing me were fraudulent.......

Beware of the new trailwinds dental in wildwood. Just another money hungry dental office in the villages. I'm going outside the villages from now on.

I've been using Dr. Forrest Jerkins in Fruitland Park because of recommendations on the site. I used Sumter Landing Dental before that because they were in my Medicare network. After several free cleanings, I was told they wouldn't do anymore free cleanings until I had a deep gum cleaning. That's when I left and went with Dr. Jerkins. Said I didn't need a deep gum cleaning, and has never done anything that isn't needed. Sent me to Villages Endodontics to test a couple of teeth for root canals and crowns, and after seeing the x rays, told me that one tooth was find, and only needed one crown on the one I had the root canal on. I have Delta Dental Premier, but not sure what other insurance he accepts

I had to go to the Summerfield office for my teeth cleaning
|
We use Serenity Denistry in Spanish Springs. They are very careful, have air cleaners in each room, they wear ultra protective headgear, patients only take mask off for actual work in the mouth, and they do not try to sell you on work needing done. Regarding teeth cleaning, it's nice to get it done every six months, but it's not mandatory. If you brush well, floss, etc., you can go a year unless you have some oral medical reason not to.

Sumter Dental is the worst. Don’t ever go there.
|
Marion Dental hasn’t cancelled any appointments and I also see a periodontist once a year and no cancellation at his office either.

Palm Ridge Dental is the BEST!

Go to Nicaragua
My wife and I where tired of being ripped off in the states by dentists. 9 years ago we started going to Managua, Nicaragua to the Madriz family of Martha, David and Ivan. We go every year and sometimes twice a year. We have saved 10'sof thousand dollars, have a great vacation and made many friends in that time. Going back again early this year to
complete 2 crowns. They are wonderful people and no scamming. Most times they have saved us money from the quotes. They are also U.S. citizens |
I was a client of Sumter Landing Dental for 3 years. I really, really, really like Dr. Price. He has never upsold me on anything. In fact, all he has done for me is routine stuff like cleaning and xrays. He has always said my teeth are great. BUT, I can no longer deal with all the cancellations and rescheduling. This was happening long before COVID. When Sumter Landing Dental Care called me in December to AGAIN reschedule my appointment, I told them to forget it and I switched to another dental practice. My first appointment with them is in a couple weeks. I hope I like my new dentist as much as Dr. Price. I think that Sumter Landing Dental Care is too big and has a hard time handling their patient-load. Too bad, because I really do like the Dentist and their office is really good at handling insurance claims.

Similar experience. This is no way to treat a patient. I left the practice.

Most Dentists have scams to increase charges! Be safe and eat more soup!

I have been using Serenity for the last 8 years and am totally satisfied. They have followed the covid restrictions completely and have NOT cancelled a single appointment this last year. Due to previous dental problems I see them every 4 months..
|
Not happy with them either. Husband had a crown that is terrible. when I finish with a cleaning doesn't. Feel like anything has been done. And the rescheduling several times has also happened to us. Any recommendations for a new dentist?

Not that dentist. My OPINION based on my experience. I unfairly stick my wife with making such appointments, She is far nicer and far more accommodating than I am. I believe the front desk ladies know that. Seems, whenever they have someone cancel they call her and assume she will cheerfully accomdate them. I locked horns with one of these people. They expected my wife to as she always does to accomdate them. I handled it and told them I would need to check and would call them back later in the day. She got all and took it upon herself to cancel my appointment. I asked to speak to the dentist and was told the dentist was with a patient. Fine and expected, I asked for a call back-never happened. I got a letter suggesting I find another dentist. If you are not aware you will get a like 6 week wait for a new dentist to see you. I got a likely standard atty prepared letter saying they would handle any emergency care for ???? six weeks. Truth, had I needed it fat chance on getting an appointment. I sent a restricted delivery letter, dentist needs to sign for it outlining politely what happened. I got a call from the dentist who was very nice. She claims she does not have complaints about the ??? receptionist. I directly said I am not suggesting she fires the lady. Now, I am still a patient. If, we call, the receptionist will not talk to me. We are treated like family of the dentist. Have not had any requests at all to change appointments. They do not have an easy job. My view it is often not what they need to get done by how they speak. We've had an emergency could you do us a favor and come in early, late ???? tomorrow. That is far different than we've cancelled your appointment and rescheduled you for ........ The people in the front establish the personality of the practice. Too many of them are untrained or the wrong people in that tough job. |
Palm Ridge is great. I left Sumter because of poor experience there. Exam prior to
Cleaning can't be law. Call the dental board

Dentist
I quit using Sumter and went to First Choice Dental. FANTASTIC!!!!

Perhaps a partial explanation why more crowns. In terms of money. Crowns are one of the most profitable procedures for a dentist. Perhaps, another reason for more crowns. In many cases there are alternatives. Simply pull the tooth. A false tooth. False teeth. Implants. All have problems. I had a tooth that was filled. Latter a root canal and a crown. It cost me a small fortune. I suppose it lasted 40-50 years. Was it worth all the money? Did I get my monies worth? I think so. Teasing- when it was pulled go figure, it cost me for that too. |

I have not found a dentist to recommend as many posts also state. One more to never never try is the Aspen clinics. They seem to be 'Grad farms' for young graduates who may be paid on the commission basis - so lots of pressure on expensive procedures. They actually harmed my teeth. Different story for different time. :ohdear::ohdear: |
II am scheduled to have my teeth cleaned by Sumter Landing dental care January 12 and I do not have to see the dentist prior to cleaning.

Forrest Jerkins DDS - new patient
FYI - I just called Jerkins dental (1/6/2021) for 6 month cleaning and exam. My health insurance is with The Villages United Health Care. Jerkins does NOT take that health care insurance.
Also they have just opened their practice to new patients so if you are interested.... |
My wife and I used VIP Dentistry. Not cheep but very honest and competent. Highly recommend.

Hubby had his two front teeth busted out out at an early age (you know, being propelled over the front of his new English bike at the tender age of 13 years) and were replaced with a post and crown (the early form of implant technology). They BOTH lasted for almost 50+ years until one of the posts cracked and became loose. Now it wasn't like the dentist could just super glue it back together. The only recommendation was to remove the tooth entirely and then replace it with an implant. Hubby had it pulled and wore a "flipper" (denture with a fake tooth attached) and wore it for almost 2 years before he chose to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and proceed with the implant. If you think that the state of your dental health is fine and okey dokey, then by ALL means disregard the warnings that your dentist happens to find on your xrays. Would you rather them not telling you about the problems, and letting things get out of hand? You can address it now, or later...when it might just progress to a point when other obstacles rear their ugly heads. Your choice. Do all dentists point out potential problems going on in your mouth?...Yes! Do all do so by strong arming you?...No? We have trusted WD for a long time. Have certain key personnel at WD come and gone over the years?...Yes! IMHO Dr. Patel and his staff at WD at present is top notch. Give them a try and you'll be impressed. :coolsmiley: |
Dr Howell on 466 just before Rolling acres. Have been with him for at least 10 years, honest, trustworthy and does not force a procedure on you, he tells you what he is looking at and if it can wait.I trust the practice whole hardily .
|
I get free exam and cleaning with them, but stayed away and paid another out of my pocket because neighbors warned me... Glad I did.

Dr. Heydari of Aesthetic Dentures at Colony is an excellent dentist. Received various awards from NY dental school. Great for implants. He has a 3D X-Ray machine. Will not try to do unnecessary procedures. Dentist and staff are very professional and friendly.
He is rare in being an honest dentist. |
