Digital antenna?
Hi,
So moving to Tv in a week or so, and I need to choose a streaming service. I see some have digital antenna options for local channels. I dont have a clue if the area has good reception for these type of antennas'. Waht your experience with local channel reception? Is it worth trying to use the antenna? Thanks all! Bud |
Poor signals. A few locations in TV are high enough that signal is available. But many are too low and must have cable/streaming connection.

No such thing as a "digital antenna", it's just an antenna, just like we used to use before cable. The digital signal is piggybacked on the the analog carrier.
So your best bet is to go to Antenna Man - Cut The Cord. He will inform you on the type of antenna you need. |
I am between 466a and 44 and receive about 50 channels from Orlando with an attic mounted antenna (DB4E).

I live near Buena Vista and 466A and have an antenna in the attic simply as a backup connected to the guest BR TV, in Florida it's good to have backup. I have Directv for the main two TVs, but I also have a ROKU stick and can stream anything. I looked into youtube TV and Hula Live TV and a couple of others, and they give you the local Orlando channels. With the antenna I can get all the local channels except WESH Channel 2 NBC. Their transmitter is not in the same location as the others and I would need a second antenna, but since I don't really use that third TV that much, I don't bother.
I just did a search of youtube TV and enter zip code 32162 and these are the local channels you'll get, which are all you'll really need. With my antenna I can get all the sub-channels for example 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 but most of them are just reruns of old shows and movies. There are a lot of Spanish Language and religious channel over the air, those I don't care about. YouTube TV - Watch & DVR Live Sports, Shows & News WFTV 9 News 6 FOX 35 My65 WESH 2 WUCF WUFT Telemundo Orlando CW 18 TV 27 |
Thank you
Looks like im going with Philo, 60 channels streaming 20 bucks per month. I will run the ant into Roku box for local channels. So Xfininty for 25 per month, Philo 20, Roku no fee. 45 bucks im done. Up north (RI) this runs me 225.00 with contract Worth doing a little reasearch. Thanks John for your well though out response!

So, position really does matter. I didn’t try putting an antenna in the attic because I did to want to make holes and run wires. My house has coaxial connections in every room, but only one is hot, as I have a router and WiFi throughout the house. |

You Tube TV has local channels and everything you will need. .... Xfinity ROKU...just get WIFI. get somebody to help you. DONT GET CABLE or worry about an antenna
|
When I first moved here I tried using a simple antenna that I already it. It picked up about 4 stations, 2 of which were Spanish language. From what I have heard, NBC is a huge problem to pick up here with an antenna.

Villages Audio Video
Tom Grooms from Villages audio video does a fantastic job of finding the right antenna to install in your attic. Like the other folks have said in other posts NBC is hit and miss because they’re on the other frequency. To reach Tom Grooms call (352) 388-1677.

The nice thing about Tablo is that you can connect a portable hard drive to it in order to record shows. The cost was about $60 for the antenna, $40 for the portable hard drive and approx $75 for the Tablo unit. |

Most have moved from VHF frequencies to UHF also.

You can have Tom install a good digital antenna in the Attic then attach that one antenna wire to a "tablo" box ($100 Amazon). "Tablo" box will send all channels to all other TVs in your home as long as they have a Roku or fire stick or are Smart TVs. I live between 466a and 44 and receive 55 Orlando channels with my attic antenna and my "Tablo" box. Of course you still need to have internet for 45 to $50 monthly and I choose to subscribe to Netflix for $9 a month for one TV plan.

Are you kidding. Clicked on antenna man. I says to click on here, fill out the form and you will be sent an invoice. Invoice for what, a recommendation?

Better TV reception via antenna on a hill. If you want to put antenna in attic you can't have the foil backed sheathing installed...you will not get any signals through it. Streaming/ internet service is dependent on location. They all have their issues so good luck. Enjoy. |
Not very good. Stream vie internet instead

I have a DB4E in the attic pointed at Orlando. Only thing I don't get is NBC. They are a VHF signal and my antenna is UHF. The choices to get NBC are a second UHF antenna to get the UHF NBC signal from Ocala, or VHF antenna pointed at Orlando.
The people at Antennas Direct are very helpful and emailed me a very detailed map of what my options were. |
