Villages traffic gates
Can someone explain why you should go through the resident gate instead of the visitors gate if you live in the villages. The visitors side automatically raises up when you pull up to the gate. When you go to the resident side you have to roll the window down and scan your ID card.

Use either gate. Solved.

some visitors may not have a gate key, & some of the work vehicles may be too large to pass, @ least it's that way in ours. (we use the fenney way exit to warm springs from mc clure.) the resident lane is more adjusted to cars, while the visitor lane can allow safe passage for : moving trucks, landscape trailers & other large service vehicles.

Perhaps this is what the poster was referring to, as I am not aware of any gates which automatically open. I could be wrong. |

OP - As a resident, you can use either gate. Do not cross over from the inner lane of a round-a-bout to avoid using the visitors' gate. Many people do this, but it is not good driving. |
When I'm coming home from outside my neighborhood, I have to take a left after passing the gate. So I stay in the visitor's lane, which is the left lane. If I need to pick up my mail first, I'll go through the residents' gate, which is the right gate. The postal station is down on the right.

Gates
It’s less wear on window motors to use visitor gates when someone is there to open it. Window stickers would be a nice option.
|
You are not correct. The visitors gate needs a card or push the red button.

Makes no difference

Either gate works. If the gate has a person working just smile and wave. No wear and tear on window motor. No need to put window down and let heat, bugs or other in. Usually quicker to get in as well.
|
Use any gate you want
|
It does not go up automatically. Either you push a button or a gate keeper raises it.
|
Just as an aside, my resident gate pass works through golf cart plastic 'rain curtains'. Quite handy!
|
I wish my card would work that well. There are times when I have to get really close to the control to get the gate up. I wonder if through the years these cards degrade in some way and should be replaced? May have to make a call to find out.
|
No it doesn't. Only the outgoing gates both open. If you're entering a Village, you either have tto press the button or use the "key."

Effectiveness of using the cart through glass depends on how close you are willing to get to the scanner. The scanners have limited range so you need to be relatively close. You also need to look at the scanner since a couple of them are at a different height but that is the exception. I hold the card at the the glass and let the car creep, I can hear the beep when it's read but by creeping I don't need to be that accurate :)

I burned out a window motor after a few years in my Toyota Sienna, so we use visitors where ever they are located

Nope

Also, ......... it has occurred to me that the visitor line (if there's a line), goes faster - which is nice for the visitor but if the resident is in a hurry - it can be slightly annoying, Not really a huge deal, in my opinion. I was away from TV for 8 yrs for work and I've been back now, IM A FROG, for 1.5 yrs. and I notice the gate guards are pretty stoic sometimes, barely smile, barely step into the doorway of the shack. Just an observation. Most are eager to talk and chat and smile/wave. |
You have to push the red button to get through on the visitor’s side unless there is an attendant.
|
I use the resident's gate because I'm a resident. I don't know about other people's pass cards but I've never had to roll down my window to get my card to work.

Back in the day, when the gates automatically opened because of construction, we had friends coming. I told them to drive up to the residence only gate and that I’d programmed their license number in so the gate would open automatically for them.
They were puzzled as to how our system knew their license plate number. 😊 |
