Need a recommendation for best way to ship several boxes to New England
 

Boxes would be approx. 36" x 36" and weigh about 50 lbs. each. By bus, UPS, Fed Ex, USPS??

"best" ?

Define best. Air ride? There tomorrow? Cheap? Safest?

Do you, family or someone you work for have a UPS or Fedex daily pickup? If so, they probably have a negotiated rate. I know my company gets 40% off list, so when I ship, that's what I pay. UPS stores charge fees which put the prices over list.

If you have no "options" like that, take the packages straight to a UPS or Fedex depot. You will probably pay dimensional weight on boxes that big. If you keep the packages under 50lb you will pay standard rate. Go over by 1lb and you're paying over weight, so put them on a scale before you take them there and realize your scale may be a lb or two off so nothing over 47lbs and you'll be fine.

There is also freight, if you have a bunch of these boxes. UPS and Fedex both have freight options, but if you don't have a dock, a lift truck is extra.

LTL (Less than truckload) is also possible if you can palletize them. I've sent huge cartons thousands of miles on the cheap because I waited until someone had an empty truck and we have a great LTL broker.

My opinion, just box 'em up to 47lb, take them to a depot and don't faint when you see the price :)

I found when I ship boxes to NC for my grandkids the US Postal Service is cheaper then UPS.

I'd go with UPS or FedEx

I use UPS....and have for years, never a hassle

now, the absolute best (for me anyway, and I know this is off topic) is when I purchase something online and have it shipped directly to the recipient

I go to Villages Pack n Ship. They will weigh the boxes and give you the best alternatives. But I also know for each of my kids which delivery services are the most efficient in each area. Since it's after Christmas , USPS is getting better .

Over the Xmas holidays USPS was about twice the cost of UPS. Just my experience.

Yes, how many boxes? If there are quite a few it might be easier to just use a small POD.

Last year I shipped from MA down here. After shipping the box I realized it would have been cheaper to pack a suitcase and paid to put it on the plane with me. Anyway, go out to a shipping store and see what they can do. I think there is one near Target.

FedEx Ground on 44 in Leesburg. About the best you can do. 3-4 day delivery.

Find a local LTL freight company that you can drop off to. lTL means less than load (less than a full truck load). You need box dimensions and weights. Find companies by searching online. Use term “less than load shipping near me).

It all depends on the size of the boxes and the weight per box. However two of the cheaper options May indeed be bus or believe it or not the train takes freight. The problem with those two options is you'll have to drive the boxes and carry the boxes to the train or the bus stations and the recipient will have to do the same

Go on ,ine and research the cost for each if thats what you want to know. Not sure what youre looking for. Cheapest, fastest,???

They are typically for luggage you want to ship to your flight destination BUT they work great for boxes (you pack and seal) and other luggage.
Cost is much less than any other shipper.
And the fun fact - they use UPS or other major shipper and all you do is print out the label and drop off at UPS

We had to ship a Bike to NYS and the UPS and Fed Ex were close to $400. We went to Jacksonville and shipped by train for $60. Combined it with a nice overnight in Jax.

OP if you want most efficient no way will you get it unless you give more details of what is to be shipped.

FedEx ground is the cheapest I've found. I've shiped bicycles from Maine to The Villages and back. The other carriers don't come close to FedEx Ground on pricing and the 3-day ship time is perfect if you're traveling.

Rent a small Van and DYY bet you'll save a bundle

Uship.com.... trucker site - they stick in on the back of a load when they're going somewhere; makes sense when you have more than a few boxes.

that is what I do ,and, if it's for the children, the parents seize. If it is addressed to the dad, that means he opens and wraps whatever is in it (NO, I'm NOT going to pay the crazy fees for wrapping!). If it's to the Mom, she opens and wraps.
