So, if you wanted your irons re-gripped...

where would you go?

Thanks.

Sarasota driving range shop on Moyer Loop near Morse Blvd across from the the fire station. Or, you can try the Arnold Palmer golf shop.

John_W 02-04-2021 04:41 PM

I've had grips done at Jim's Golf Shop on 441/27 next to Jersey Mike's in front of Target. Also at the Sarasota Golf Shop just south of 466A in TV between Morse and Walmart. I've seen them regripping clubs on the sidewalk in front of Birdie Golf, that's on 466 just east of Morse in the tan shopping next to Villages Discount Golf Cars.

Grips

I usually re-grip clubs myself. Shopping grips at Sarasota, they seem to have limited choices and inventory. Your experience?

npwalters 02-04-2021 05:14 PM

Birdie's Golf on 466 close to Morse. Large selection and they install while you wait for the price of the grip. Usually about 10 bucks per grip for good quality.

Mleeja 02-04-2021 05:22 PM

The Golf Central store in Brownwood.

I've been re-doing my own grips for 40 years. The toughest part is removing the old tape. Once that's done it's less than two minutes to apply new tape, lube with paint thinner and regroup. Then you let dry overnight/or 3-4 hours.

I buy my grip tape(2" wide double sided stick)and grips either from amazon or eBay. I always buy Golf Pride or Lamkin. The cover material for Winn grips is so thin it takes no time to wear through no matter how light your grip.

Jim's hasn't been Jim's for some time...........it's Edwin Watts now and I wouldn't let them touch any of my clubs, not even for a re grip.

I still go in there, and last time I was there the name Jim's Golf Shop was still on front along Edwin Watts. Seems like the same employees as well. I never had a problem with the other Edwin Watts on 466, bought a lot stuff there as well, just bought a new pair of Adidas Golf Shoes on sale for $50 at Christmas. I bought a new set of Taylormade M-4 Irons at Jim's just after the change over and last summer a Garmin Approach wrist GPS on sale for $129, and they're still selling online for $150 to $180, that was good deal. What has changed since they've become Edwin Watts that would make you stay away?

Well when you get a couple of clubs reshafted, and regripped by them, and the first time you get out on the course with them three days later the heads fly off the shafts on the first hit.....I kinda have a problem with that.

tophcfa 02-04-2021 08:45 PM

Amazon to order and our garage to re-grip.

DaleDivine 02-05-2021 05:52 AM

I've been doing mine for several years. Buy them on eBay. Cut the old grips off and use my air compressor (Watch on YouTube) to install new grips.
They're ready to play instantly. No messy solvent. Did them for a golf shop in Virginia as well.
Also have been putting golf components together for years. I've never had a head come off or anyone else's set I put together.

Amazon or eBay, you can get a kit ( tape, fluid, j-blade) and decent grips for far less then going to a golf shop.

nick demis 02-05-2021 06:28 AM

Just had mine done at Edwin Watts on Wedgewood lane. They charged $2.00 each plus the grips. Dropped of the set and picked them up the next day, they offered to do them immediately, but I chose not to pressure them. I can't complain about them.

westernrider75 02-05-2021 06:32 AM

The golf shop in Brownwood did ours. Fast and cheap.

Guitarman1951 02-05-2021 06:52 AM

Birdie golf on 466. I used to get them at Palmer but they are higher priced. Birdie Golf has a great selection of grips. I do some regrips myself because it's not very hard to do if you have a vice to hold the club while work.

Search for golf club grips on amazon, there is a product that you wind over your old grips, easy to apply, doesn’t add bulk, and is a bit tacky. I’ve been using this for a couple of weeks and like it.

r54player@gmail.com 02-05-2021 07:28 AM

Golf central, Sumpter square

Villages Kahuna 02-05-2021 07:33 AM

Jim’s, now Edwin Watts, for me. Last time I had them done, it was the same guy that’s always done great work for me. Price is reasonable.

Coal Miner 02-05-2021 07:42 AM

Sarasota . If you buy the grips installation is free. Sometimes they can do them while you wait

Fredman 02-05-2021 08:07 AM

Birdie golf, they do it while u wait

Birdie, Birdies on 466

Garwood1 02-05-2021 08:46 AM

I buy direct from Lamkin and do my own takes few minutes and I don’t pay $10 a grip since I’m an existing customer they send me deal offers often , it’s very easy

RTrevilian 02-05-2021 08:49 AM

Jim's Golf Shop is now Edwin Watts. Most of the same people and they do a good job.

I'd stay away from Johnnie's Birdie Golf. I had a few things done there and they are sloppy.

I would be upset with that, I've never had my clubs reshafted, I would take them back and let them see what happened. What happened when you returned?

The M-4 irons I bought at Jim's (Edwin Watts now) the Christmas of 2019, I had they regripped before I left the store, I didn't like the factory grips. They did it for free because the set was a demo. I chose these Winn grips and fat oversize versions. I've had them on the clubs about 14 months and play every week and they are still like new.

I do my own it’s very simple to do but to have someone else do them, shops will do them for just the price of the grips.

rockyhyder 02-05-2021 11:50 AM

The Market of Marion, excellent selection of grips best prices.

CoachKandSportsguy 02-05-2021 01:21 PM

Was a serious slicer and could never solve the problem. Had my physique measured with the Wright Balance system, they gave me a specific grip size and tape adjustments, and seriously, I would never believe it if it didn't happen to me, my drives are much, much straighter, only a small tail at the descent, and all because the grip size was adjusted. . . with tape underneath at a certain wrap count and distance down. . . same clubs. . .

Its really that important! same with my wife, and if she is in good form she can drive it almost 180 at 60 years old.

My garage... I do all my own... and a few close friends

chuckk281 02-05-2021 02:05 PM

Agree that Birdie Golf does a good job while you wait and installation of the grips you choose is free.

44Apple 02-05-2021 06:27 PM

Lots to digest here. Thanks.

Buckeye Bleau 02-05-2021 07:41 PM

Sarasota shop did not have the grips I like but they have a good selection. I bought mine on EBay then took the 13 clubs to Sarasota Custom Club shop and they installed the grips for $2.00 each and they were done in 45 minutes.
I have changed grips a lot myself but I won’t do it for $2 and it takes me longer than an hour.
Great shop, easy to get to and fair price with good people.

I do my own grips and usually bought and used the same Winn grips but recently I may have got a few bad ones because they started wearing through. I'm due to redo mine and I'm trying some made by Champhrey I believe is the name.

Polish Golfer 02-06-2021 11:16 AM

I normally re-grip my golf clubs myself, but I did have my putter extended and new grip put on. I went to Johnny's Birdie Golf, which is located at 8500 CR 466, suite E. I highly recommend them and their prices are great too.
