Super Bowl Commercials - IMO... boring

.
.
I really enjoy watching commercials ONE time each year - SuperBowl. In past years there were some extremely enjoyable ones. This year - IMO - so very underwhelmed. Seems so many were targeting Millenials et al. The only one that stands out for me is the GM elec car/Norway commercial with Will Ferrell.. Almost ALL the others...thumbs down. However we did notice one thing. Let me phrase this politically-correct-like. The vast majority of commercials seemed to be over-covering the race-thing. Nothing wrong with that, but - are we the only ones that noticed that?

I'm watching Fox 35 morning show right now, and they just discussed the SB commercials. The Will Ferrell was the only one that kind of stood out, it use to be every commercial during SB was something special. The Wayne's World was nice to see them again, but the commercial itself was lame. Bruce Springsteen was in one, I didn't know what he was selling and he looked sickly. I couldn't believe he's only a year older than me, he's really aged.

I concur no super bowl ads worth talking about this year....years ago talking about the ad's was the game within the game

I too felt like the whole equality message was being overplayed ...in the pregame it felt like I was being reprogrammed to neutralize
the 'white male privilege' that I am suppose to have.

I have had the privilege of serving in the military, paying my own way through college, working since I was 12, paying taxes, willingly supporting Affirmative Action whenever I hired people, contributing significantly to charities, putting 5 kinds through college without any loans and volunteering in my community to help those in need

if that makes me a racist, then go ahead and call me a racist because 'frankly my dear, I don't give a damn'

Watch this SB commercial that didn't air! Brady and Gronk

Commercials were mediocre at best. The half time show was the worst in 50 years. The game outcome was great!

We thought the commercials themselves were racist.

I recognize that to many us old white guys do not count but since all of the commercials over represented blacks why is it not racist that there were no Asians or Hispanics?

The Norway commercial was the only one worth watching.

The halftime show had me quickly leave as it was not worth watching at all. Made me want to see the wardrobe malfunction again.

Tblue 02-08-2021 10:40 AM

I agree, the race thing was way overplayed. If one came here from Mars and watched the SB commercials one would have thought our country was 75% black. Nothing wrong with that, but come on man.

Two Bills 02-08-2021 10:43 AM

UK adds. are so PC now as well.
One person of each race, someone in a wheelchair, gays of both sexes, (Not seen a Tranny yet!) Most married couples are interacial.
Newsreaders with broad regional accents, preferably with severe speech impediments.
Just waiting for a bloke married to a sheep to round it all off!

Fredman 02-08-2021 11:37 AM

Adds were terrible. The half time show was a joke.

I draw the line at blokes being married to sheep just not right.

Now marrying your horse now that is a different story.:bigbow:

Not to me I guess. Waste of time and money.

John_W 02-08-2021 12:36 PM

It use to be the half time show was someone who had made it in show business. A household name, a major headliner; Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, U2, Prince, Michael Jackson, The Who, Aerosmith, then in recent years they wanted to get more contemporary with Katy Perry and Lady GaGa, but last night, when they said The Weekend, I thought it was a band. It sounded a choir, or new age music, did this guy ever have hit song. This was the worse ever!

2newyorkers 02-08-2021 01:25 PM

About an hour or two prior to the start of the Super Bowl there was a very funny Frito Lay commercial with former football players.

We have come a long way but might get there faster if we treat EVERYONE equally and make sure we have a level playing field.

And while I don’t like some of his more vulgar tracks his message was right on the money for the year we’ve had . He also gambled on himself paying for that whole show and someone must like him he’s worth anyway from $60 to $100 million and while I might like my Miles Davis Sonny Rollins the Stones all RnB still find new music at 82 to like , you know there was a rumor that those black sites ,that they interrogated prisoners at after 911 pumped in the villages radio station to break the prisoners not sure it was only a rumor

Garywt 02-08-2021 11:03 PM

The usual big ones all donated the money they would have spent. The one commercial that caught my eye was the Jeep commercial at have time celebrating the USA and the center of America.

“Over-covering the race thing”, sorry, but to me, that is a strange statement. We probably live in the least diverse bubble in the country. How can it be over-covering to have commercials reflect the rest of America. Get a life and worry about something important such as all the childhood poverty in this country.

The fact that talking about existing inequality makes so many people upset or uncomfortable, is the entire point. Given so many comments across the nation on social media, it obviously touched some nerves and therefore worked.

Kgcetm 02-09-2021 07:46 AM

The worst ever. The only thing that was enjoyable was the game. Imagine, paying $5m for a 30 second opportunity to put that tripe on the airways.

Bay Kid 02-09-2021 08:51 AM

I recorded the game. Started watching after 8 pm. SKIPPED all the hype, half time show and the crappy commercials. Watched the entire game in around 2 hours. Very enjoyable.

oh Nanny. Do the Math (percentages). It DOES NOT reflect the "rest of America". eyes open. I was just making a factual statement. Oh BTW, I have a WONDERFUL life - even in this "least diverse bubble in the country". As for the "Childhood poverty in this country" - what are YOU doing about it, other than lip service. How about the HUGE issue of schools NOT opening - which BTW contributes to the "poverty".

BTW - Facts- so in order to have 'equity' (the new word now) 13% of the actors in all the SB commercials should have been "B".

Race and Ethnicity Percentage of the total population. United States

White 62.0%197Million
Hispanic16.9% 53.9M
Black 12.6% 40.2M
Asian 5.2%16.6M
Mixed 2.3%7.20M
Other 1.0% 3.27M

and...67% of NFL players are African-American. 'equity'? are "we" upset - of course not.
.
I am simply providing FACTS.
.

bilcon 02-09-2021 08:56 AM

Why would you have a bunch of dancers dressed in nice jackets and pants with Jock Straps over their head. I don't get it. Worst Super Bowl half time show. Even if "Weekend" can sing, you couldn't hear him. How come he got out of Canada? I thought the borders were closed. Remember those great Bud commercials? Sorry, Sunday's commercials were horrible. When I was a teacher in NY, I would spend Mondays in Advertising class going over the SuperBowl commercials. I wouldn't waste class time on them now.

"I never made a mistake in my life. I thought I did once, but I was wrong."

buzzy 02-09-2021 09:18 AM

I did not enjoy the ads either. But, what's wrong with advertisers targeting Millennials? That is where their current and future market is.

No Comment On The Jeep Commercial??

The Jeep Commercial featuring Bruce Springsteen was one of the best Super Bowl commercials I’ve seen in years.

No comment on it here? I wonder what the hidden meaning of that might be?
