Car washing in driveway
 

As a newbie, I am asking if it is ok to wash my car in my driveway. thanks...

Where else would you wash it, we do it somewhat regularly

No problem. Go for it.
Personally I move mine onto drive from garage when a storm is imminent.
Let Mother Nature do all the work!

hmm - why not? Perhaps in other areas in USA with water shortages etc. Answer in TV - YES! But water is not free, and don't waste it... FYI we have an off-white car, and with the great weather here (and we garage it each night) I may wash it once every couple months - even if it's perfectly clean. .

Wash in the rain helps with the rinse cycle and gets rid of water spots.

The rain washed our cars yesterday in the driveway and then they got squeegeed off. Cars don't get so dirty here since our soil is sandy. When we go back to Texas the difference in the appearance of the vehicles is striking. Many are draped in dried mud.

a)where else...hmmm...perhaps a car wash
b)rain will not wash a car...it'll rinse it, but will not remove dried on bugs and such.
c)no ordinances against washing your car in the driveway

Tire shine stain marks
 

The only caveat to cleaning your car in the driveway is if you use tire shine products. We have a beautiful cobblestone stamped concrete driveway (sealed) at our PA summer home. When I first liberally sprayed a tire shine type product on my tires it dripped from the tires onto the concrete and stained it. Even our gas power washer would not get rid of the brownish marks. It took using acetone & vigorous brushing to clean the spots. So...either don't use it but if you do, wipe the stuff on with a rag or spray it on when parked in the street or in a parking lot at a store.

I used to wash our car in the driveway all the time but then realized that the street drains directly into the retention ponds without any sort of processing or filtering (that I know of). The retention ponds are home to a lot of wildlife so I wonder if I'm doing some damage. Is there a cleaning product that would not harm the environment yet still do a decent job?

Wash on the lawn, the grass will love it

Every week I do it; vacuum it also and change the oil in the Traverse and the carts on the driveway also when needed.

I just use a spray on detailing wax. Don't have to drag out all the car washing stuff and hoses plus no water spots. Just takes minutes and car is all polished and looks great.

Thank you for pointing out that there are wildlife who don’t like to live in soapy water! They actually teach that in Elementary school in other more up to date states.

Read all the information you were given from TV with your new house. I thought I saw something in there about washing cars in driveway.

I live on a TV lake and it's pretty disturbing to see the crap that gets mixed into the water. If you want to be eco friendly here are some car wash suggestions I found on line :

"Use a biodegradable liquid soap that contains no phosphates or synthetic fragrances. like Dr. Bronner’s , or brands like Greenworks or Bright Green that are easily available in most grocery and big box stores."

If possible, move car to lawn and wash away....the lawn loves it,

One day I decided to pull my car out of the garage and amazing thing happened..... rain and lots of it so I put on my speedos and went for it... the best car wash ever.. my neighbors came by an join the party...... that is the way you meet people.... Speedo party everyday!!! washing your car on your driveway is party time......... Now I wash my car everyday including Sundays....:a040:

At the moment my dark blue car has a distinctly yellow tinge from pollen all over it. I should probably move it out to the rain right now.

At our previous home in TV we had large live oaks and our neighbors did, too. While we were out of town our next door neighbor washed all the live oak debris on our driveway while washing his car there. He didn't want all this on his driveway. Our neighbor across the street told us about it when we got home and wondered why our driveway looked so bad.

I wash my car in the driveway but make sure that the carwash is safe for the environment. Most are but check anyway.

I washed mine in the garage and everything got all wet. Next time I think I will try the driveway : )

Just curious why you are hesitant to think you couldn't. The only restriction is you can't do it in your driveway if naked.

Sometimes when it is raining, I back vehicle out of garage and let it get a good soaking. Then I pull back into garage and use a shammy and a towel to dry the vehicle. This is a great way to keep it clean and the cost is only your time.

When you wash it on the grass, take the tires off and put the car on some cinder blocks.

Watch out for the driveway police. They sometimes like to use their knees on necks. Do NOT talk back to them!

Pro tip: Avoid making a mess and save money at the same time by washing your car in your neighbors driveway and use their water.

Meguiar's Ultimate Kwik Wax is a nice product. But don't use it to wash your car. Personally, I run my car through the cheapest car wash at a gas station. I bring along a few microfiber towels. As soon as I'm out of the car wash, I park right there at the gas station. I spray on the Kwik Wax and lightly buff it off, constantly using a clean microfiber. It gets the last bit of dirt off, dries off the car, and waxes it at the same time. The car looks great, I haven't scratched up rubbing dirt into the clear coat, and it still beads water two months later.

Does anyone use a power sprayer? Would seem quick and easy.

I've got one and have tried it. It gets off most of the dirt but not all of it. Then when you dry your car, you see all kinds of dirt in your towel. I find it's not really worth the time to set up the power-washer when you have to go over it by hand anyway. The one exception would be if your car is full of salt or mud, it's good to use a power-washer before a hand wash to get the big stuff off.

Don't you wish the tire shine lasted as long!
