Kitchen Redo

In the thinking stage of redoing our kitchen or modifying what we have. Any recommendations for a designer/builder/installer?

Michigan Farmer 02-20-2021 11:12 AM

Well I hope all turns out well for you. From my own, very expensive, experience, I highly, and strongly recommend that you go no where near Wildwood Kitchen and Bath. Please.

Before signing on with Wildwood Kitchen & Bath you should read these past threads.

After seeing my neighbor's home, completely gutted and redone, I would chose Doc's Restoration, however they are the higher side. Also on the higher side, but always great reviews is Gingerich.

I would stay far away from Doc’s Restoration. They would not show up for a week with everything torn apart and no communication at all. I like Ocala Kitchen and Bath and Harbortown Homes.

Raywatkins 02-21-2021 06:21 AM

Unlike another quote on this thread, we used Doc’s restorations and were very impressed with their work and product.
Not cheap but overall we got what we wanted at a fair price.
About a year later we had a problem with a faucet that had worked a bit loose. No problem, they had a plumber on site next day.
It turned out to be a fault they had discovered in the manufacturers fittings. Doc’s had developed their own fix. No further problems.

Highest praise to Gingerich Construction for a recent kitchen re-do and a summer kitchen several years ago. They only use the highest quality materials, because they stand behind their work. Employees show up on time, speak English, and are expert at what they do.

Gingrich just had an open house on a completely remodeled and expanded home in the El Cortez neighborhood, fronting the Chula Vista golf course. The remodeling was stunning! I think they are asking $380k for the home.

Tom Kent from Timberwood. They do almost all the kitchens in the villages. He made & installed cabinets in our Lanai & added extras to our kitchen. Good quality & a great guy. Highly recommend

Doc’s restoration messed up my shower, they would not honor their warranty at all that they promised, I would not hire them to do anything.

Doc’s Restoration did a great job for us. Highly recommend. They didn’t start job until all materials were in house and finished in a timely manner.

As a retired builder from New England, I went looking for a viable contractor for our kitchen remodel several years back. Burns Kitchen and Bath and I worked well together.

We were very happy with Brent's professionalism and the quality of his work. Brent totally gutted our kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Absolutely love the finished product. Beautiful.

Exquisite Designs Kitchen and Bath. You've probably never heard of them. They redid our bathroom. Gorgeous! Check them out on Google maps and read the reviews. You won't be disappointed with Tony and his crew.

JoelJohnson 02-21-2021 08:26 AM

We bought a manufactured house in Country Club Hills in 2012. In 2014 we went to Lowes and had them go over our design for the kitchen and ordered the cabinets we needed. I then ripped the old kitchen apart, moved the sink and some electrical, hired a local handyman to help me install everything, another local to patch the wallboard and ceiling. Lowes then came back to measure for the countertop and install it later. I also had to replace all the subfloor under the old cabinets.

All in all it came out very nice and I fixed somethings that I'm not a contractor would have bothered with. Yes, it was a lot of work, but worth it.BTW, my wife was back up north while I did all the work :).

It doesn't take a "expert" to rip out old cabinets, so why pay them if you can do that yourself?

We are currently in the process of doing the same.
Gingerich -didn’t want our small job. Wants total Reno projects.
Wildwood K&B- after reading the reviews-DON’T.
Doc’s-so far good to work with.
Burns-coming Wednesday for a consultation. Friend used them and said their communication is horrible and you have to stay on them. We were in the showroom the other day and heard a woman chewing them out for just that.

Very frustrating experience. Our cabinets are discontinued and we only want to flatten out the island and change our ‘utility closet pantry’ to a cabinet pantry. Not every remodeler carries what we’ve found we like understand, but do not want to settle. Good luck.
We don’t have any quotes just yet.

joelfmi 02-21-2021 08:44 AM

For free estimates go to Lowe's and Home depot get estimates than call a recommended kitchen and bath installion contractor see what they cost be aware Lowe's and Home depot cost the most but are the most reliable people to deal with. Your going to find out the a kitchen new cabinets and solid stone top start at 30K to 60K. That is why when you buy a resale you must figure in these prices, which make a lot of the homes over priced.to buy. Bathrooms remolding start a 25K. joelfmi@aol.com question a retired designer.

collie1228 02-21-2021 08:47 AM

I wholeheartedly recommend Doc's Restorations. Our kitchen was done by Doc's about four years ago. They assigned a project manager who was always reachable by phone, and always knew the precise status of our project. They did great work, cleaned up nicely every day, and the end product was exactly as contracted. We had one small problem which was fixed immediately with no questions asked. We recently had a soft-closing door hinge fail and drove out to Doc's to see if we could get a replacement. They had a tech at our door in a couple days, with two new hinges for that door, and it was done in about twenty minutes. Great service.

we had our entire kitchen redone during the covid lockdown - had 4 companies give us quotes for the cabinents and Bailey design studio had the best quote and did a fantastic job -- there quote for countertops was very high but they recommended ultimate granite and they had the best prices for cambria quartz and granite we chose the cambria and it is beautiful-- finally for backspash went to trinity tile in ocala - great material and recommended a elite custom tile installers -- kitchen looks fantastic - by the all was done with the money we were planning to use for three trips abroad :) ----good luck

szym463 02-21-2021 08:55 AM

We used Docs found them to be on time for every aspect of the job, clean, and reliable. Had some issues with the floor product that was taken care of quickly with no issues. Would used them again on any other projects.

llaran 02-21-2021 09:07 AM

I agree, I had a kitchen fire and wanted the same brand of cabinets so I used Burns Woodworking for the cabinets and quartz counter, took down the pony wall and 1 side wall, went to the Cambria warehouse to see a full slab, installed NO seams, 2 watrrfalls. bought sink abd faucet onlineo also plumber said do you want an air switch. Very Pleased with the installation and price.

Re: Lowes and Home Depo
Based on my experience. We bought carpet from Lowes. We had shopped it around.
The people we spoke to elsewhere reminded me of the old jokes about used car salesmen. Our crooked brand carpet compares to sort of sales pitch. Our install crew
they are the best. One is my nephew and yours will be his first job since he completed his PHD in art history.

Our previous home. I asked a person I knew had recently had his roof done who he used. He highly endorsed the company he used. We got a quote that was actually higher than Lowes or Home depo. But, my friend said they were great. so we hired them. The job was terrible. After it was completed, they send you a form. If, you recommend them for a job they send you if I recall it was $500 or $1,000. Not only did I pay too much for a lousy job but, my,"friend," disappeared.

Moral. Good work is not cheap. Cheap work is not good. You get what you pay for.

talonip 02-21-2021 09:28 AM

I don’t know what your goal is but you might consider changing the color of your cabinets. We just went from brown to an off white. It’s beautiful. We feel we are living in a new house. Use Marr-Corr painting. Call Greg at 352-409-5143. Make sure you get Vance to do your job. Takes a week to complete. You will be happy.

lennythenet 02-21-2021 09:48 AM

We used Timberwood as well. Very pleased!

Kichen redo

We recently had our kitchen redone by Doc's Restoration and I was extremely impressed with the entire operation. They were always on time and pleasant. As mentioned, a little higher than other quotes but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for". Good luck.

I used Exquisite Design last year, 352-203-4812. Beautiful job. Have just contacted for them to do my master bath. I have no doubt I will love it as much as my kitchen. If you call speak to Tony. He is the owner and has great ideas.

I agree, we just had them redo our kitchen new counter tops, backsplash, flooring, new sink and faucets, also our guest bath make over. The guest bath work was done to our satisfaction(very well done), the kitchen however is another story mainly the installation of the backsplash. Also beware they want 50% down upon signing the contract, no where in the contract or verbally were we told that when work began we would have to give them another 45% with 5% at completion. They were very dis-organized, measured wrong so they were short tiles for back splash had to wait 2 weeks for more tiles. Communication is not a strong suit for this company and the scheduler could be very curt and rude.

You do have to "stay on" Burns. They did my reno and it was very slow. Took a long time to get done and had a sizeable to-do list at the end but they did finish everything.

Like I said earlier, we got our cabinets from Lowes, what I didn't say was that some were so bad damaged in transit they had to be resent. The corner cabinet was damaged in the back, they would have replaced it, but by then I was short on time and lived with the damage, since it wouldn't be seen, unless you poked your head inside.

Remodeling Service

We used Carol Services for our bathroom remodels. JP was great and his crew was very conscientious. No delays at all. Arrived when they said they would and finished when the said they would. They install flooring as well as full home remodels. We thought reasonably priced. Will use them for our kitchen remodel next year. 321-230-1221

I shopped when we redid our baths. For us the best recommendation and service was from Doc's Restoration.

Do NOT use Docs Restoration..... inexperienced sales people and multiple prices given. Even if you write down what they tell you at the home visit its usually 3 different prices when they finish ALL of course more expensive.

John_W 02-21-2021 02:48 PM

Unless you're doing a major gut job, I always did the general contractor work myself. I completely built a home from lot purchase to plan design to actual construction for two homes in Pensacola, Florida. I didn't have a builder, I was it.

So when I didn't like the little 10' x 10' kitchen in our CYV, first I had Great Lakes in Summerfield put in a subway tile backsplash and Blinds 4 Less in Lady Lake put in plantation shutters and put knobs on the cabinets.

This is how it looked about 9 years ago when I finished with those little touches. Sorry, I scanned this from a photo that was a little worn. As you can see, the cabinets put in by TV were awful, I think the name was unstained maple. Even after those touches it still looked horrible.

https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...dc&oe=6056828B

So then I had Remington Kitchens of Leesburg reface the cabinets in white and put on new hand pulls, price was $4800. (that was new doors and pullout drawers fronts and formica over the base cabinets) Remington has since retired. I went to Best Buy and bought all new LG Appliances, $2600 delivered and installed. I kept the original formica countertops, even though granite would of been nice, and I still might do it, I was doing a bathroom remodel at the time. I bought professional faucet on eBay for $130 and I bought a new stainless single bowl 34" sink from Home Depot website for $400 and had Kiley & Sons plumbing install them. I then had the Floor Shoppe in Wildwood do the entire living area with new 12mm thick laminate 6" planks that were waterproof. The wall painting was done by Investment Painters and I stained the white grout with grout stain I bought from HD, and this how it looks now.
