Plumber Recommendations Please

We need to have a few miscellaneous plumbing issues addressed. Nothing too serious. Most significant is possible replacement of a sink or sinks in our bathroom.

Recommendations please. :)

JohnN 02-27-2021 01:24 PM

Mike Scott Plumbing did a nice job for us, twice!

retiredguy123 02-27-2021 01:28 PM

Mike Scott or Kiley and Sons.

You may want to compare the cost to replace the countertops or vanities in the bathrooms instead of just the sinks.

SIRE1 02-27-2021 02:42 PM

If you want a third name for a quote from someone, I suggest you contact Roger Pearce, (352) 572-8954. I've had him out to install a new main water cut off valve, and install my new dishwasher/disposal/kitchen facet. And he will be one of the ones I'd contact for a quote if I needed additional plumbing.

Mike Scott

logdog 02-27-2021 05:35 PM

Second Roger Pearce... I've used Mike Scott several times and they do a good job. However, Roger is also licensed and doesn't advertise so his rates are much lower than Mike Scott. But before you pay plumber rates you should check to see if a handyman can do the job. Replacing a sink is not that a big deal. I'm thinking of doing one myself in the kitchen as a DIY project.

Mike Scott..... he’s the best.

Definitely Mike Scott Plumbing. Very honest, skillful, and reasonably priced.

Brondrisek 02-28-2021 08:06 AM

I used Mike Scott to replace kitchen sink, faucet and Insinkerstor.
They are coming next week to switch me from an electric to a gas stove.
I’ve not priced shopped because they’ve done great work.

gemini5001 02-28-2021 08:21 AM

I am a handyman and I can do those things for you at a lot less than a plumber would charge you.

Reputable Plumber

Without badmouthing anyone else, we have found Kiley & Sons to be the most honest and affordable, but some minor plumbing jobs can be done by a handyman at a fraction of the cost.

DAVES 02-28-2021 08:58 AM

My two cents worth-for free.
Cost-you are better off having several jobs done at the same time. One way or the other,
you pay for the person to come to your home and then a charge for the work. So if they are already there the other jobs will cost less.

Replacing a sink, a toilet are easy. Last time I did them, my back was 20 or 30 years younger.
Oh, and plumbing parts were metal, not plastic. Flexible connectors are far easier than needing to bend tubing, compression fittings etc.

Time-I recall changing out our kitchen sink. I bought the best. Cast iron sink porcelain covered. Read that as heavy. The faucet, I put it in and took it out 3-4x. I could not get the faucets to turn correctly. I called the company the next day they were opened.
They told me the instructions were wrong-oops. For me days. For a plumber ??? an hour
job.

Fun? Only if I spin the truth.

MIskra 02-28-2021 08:59 AM

When we had our kitchen counters replaced, the fabricator insisted that we use Mike Scott Plumbing. He said that he had had experiences where people try to save a few bucks by hiring a handyman for the plumbing during a kitchen remodel and have run into problems. He said that if there are issues, Mike Scott stands behind their work and will send a plumber back out immediately to make corrections at no cost. We took this recommendation. Mike Scott did a great job. They showed up the evening before the counter replacement and came back the evening the counter job was completed so that we would not have too much disruption to our use of water in the kitchen. It was not as straight forward as we thought because the drain was in a different position, so some additional plumbing was required, which was beautifully done. Very happy with Mike Scott Plumbing.

Tomptomp 02-28-2021 09:00 AM

I had a leak that no one would tackle. MIKE SCOTT PLUMBING came over at 8pm and fixed my leak, in the dark, for a reasonable price. I certainly will you them next time I have an issue.

I have found a licensed plumber here in TV that I have used at 2 different homes. He has does work for neighbors and they love him. He does high quality work and will save you a lot of money compared to others mentioned in this thread. His name is Chris, 248-330-2721. You will not be disappointed.

rogerk 02-28-2021 09:58 AM

I've used Mike Scott Plumbing and Kelly and sons. Both were excellent. Kelly offers a home plumbing inspection, including camera inspection of sewer line. This gives a one year service discount on parts and service charges. Is it worth; that an individual judgement call.

Both did great jobs installing new sinks in two different homes I've owned The Villages. We also replaced all the pop-out shut off valves.

He may do good work, but he doesn't seem to be a licensed plumber in Florida. Do you have his license number?

I had an issue with my guest bathroom toilet a while back...called Kiley and Sons, the person they sent out had no clue, it was the flapper. My husband had already changed it once (the house was less then 5 years old). Kileys changed the flapper, charged me $80. It still was not filling correctly it flushing properly. They came back - no charge, did nothing. Finally called Mike Scott. His person says you have to have a Koehler replacement part not any off the shelf part. Changed it charged me for half a service call. Toilet working fine. Contacted Kiley and demanded my money back and after long discussions finally got it.

rockyhyder 02-28-2021 11:37 AM

We use Kiley and Sons Plumbing. Very professional and fair prices.

It sounds like you were treated fairly by both plumbers. But, it is not correct that you need to use Koehler parts in a toilet.

spofford 02-28-2021 12:05 PM

KIley and Sons, replaced hot water heater, replaced shut off valves in house, and a emergency Saturday call. Always had experienced professional show up. Costs are inline with other plumbers.

Hape2Bhr 02-28-2021 01:27 PM

I called the heavy favorite so far, to replace a hose bib. The girl that answered the phone immediately stated that they would need to punch a hole in the stucco wall and replace the entire valve. It needs a new washer (it's not the packing nut that's leaking). A plumber with the correct tools can do it without creating a hole. The leak is capped off until I find a plumber who will replace the washer.

I use Torri Plumbing 352-330-5900 Very good and reliable

Had a slab leak, Mike Scott gave us the run around. Would not recommend them anymore.

Slab leak? You sure that was a plumbing issue?

Can you be more specific? What do you mean that they gave you the run around?

I've used Mike Scott a number of times. All were good service. I'd use him again if I needed any plumbing work.

We just moved into our new home and when we had our gas dryer installed the installer pointed out that the gas line valve wasn’t installed correctly. The rude, unprofessional woman from Scott called and said we would have to pay for a service call to have it looked at. So much for the new home warranty. One week later a bathroom faucet came loose, which I fixed, because I will not have Scott in my home.

I don't know whose license number you have, but the guy you referred to is not a licensed plumber.

We've been using Kiley and Sons for a couple of years now and so far they've been reliable.
