Fiesta Bowl Closing

Just heard tonight that Fiesta Bowl will close "for the summer" and may or may not reopen in Sept. Not sure of the reason but assume it has to be financial. Sad if it turns out to be true.

Two Bills 03-19-2021 04:19 AM

That place has had more closures than a zip, and yet it is still here.

Source?

They’re still in the middle of leagues. Closing now would be very messy.

"for the summer" sounds temporary to me. It's possible the closure is to renovate the place during a slower period of time.

villagetinker 03-19-2021 09:23 AM

Fiesta closing is scheduled for April 30th, after current leagues finish. Reopening is up in the air.

Karadad 03-19-2021 10:23 AM

The Fiesta Bowl is played every year late Dec. or early Jan. It was Oregon vs. Iowa state this year!

Why would they have to rent parking lot?

Might it have something/anything to do with the Developer's Attorney wanting to visit with Lady Lake Commissioners re potential apartment development? That parking lot would be primo for apartment dwellers - no?

Reliable sources report that they are putting in a new ventilation system. Hope they redo the lanes and ball returns as well. Today’s reactive resin balls “prefer” synthetic lanes.

Seems like much more parking than the apartment dwellers would need.

I think the developer feels that since he can make a few bucks making tenants pay for paring and upkeep of marking why not.

Wonder if all of the stores have to pay this?

BTW not saying there is anything wrong with this they are in business to make money.

Rwirish 03-20-2021 05:52 AM

Yep, the waste haulers confirmed this rumor along with my barber.

sentry 03-20-2021 05:59 AM

How many apartments can they get in there?

ficoguy 03-20-2021 06:12 AM

Apartments and lofts?

J1ceasar 03-20-2021 06:32 AM

D u h. Don't you guys understand when the stores are rented and or bowling alleys and or fast food places, the cost of the entire Land development including the parking lot is divided up and a portion to each store / bowling center including the cost per car? So if they figure a store must have x spaces and a fast food place must have two x spaces and a bowling alley must have 4X spaces they proportionally pay a higher rent for the spaces that the parking lot is called for.

It doesn't seem that with the loss of revenue that they would be contemplating spending more money.

The lanes are synthetic. Last time I was there, the approaches were still wood. I haven't heard that they were ever updated to synthetic.

Reality. They pay tens of thousands in rent. The Morse family gave zero breaks in rent to any of the properties they own - including the Fiesta bowl. I'm sure that this was devastating financially for the Fiesta Bowl. The question is -- will the Morse family care enough for the residents to help assure that the Fiesta Bowl reopens as one of the great aspects of moving and living in TV?

Hmm think we all know the answer to that one.

What is your source for this accusation?

Professor. I think you have jumped on that old, incorrect, yet often repeated Urban Legend. (About Rents in The Villages being unfairly high.) Sir. NO one forced anyone to rent in any of the places owned by this developer or any site that is a prime location in Florida. I see absolutely zero evidence of people being badly treated by The developer and yet some hold some very poor opinions of The Villages developer. I often wonder if they are jealous or just not getting the correct information or have a bias against private enterprise. I have suspected that most property owners have realized that the Pandemic is a serious detriment to business. I imagine that it is entirely possible that some breaks have been given. You cannot get blood out of a turnip.

bonicka 03-20-2021 11:29 AM

It is closing on April 30. We were told at our league meeting. So many leagues had backed out because of Covid. It is expensive to run two bowling alleys without the leagues. The owner will re-evaluate in August. He owns both lanes. If more leagues want to start back up, he may reopen it.

I’m not sure opinions regarding the developer are as unanimous as you seem to believe.

Red Ink. Villagers are known for hanging around business establishments without spending money. They have a reputation of consuming only water with lemons.

Yes and have been inside a few years ago meeting some friends before we actually moved here.

Not interested in bowling and will probably stop responding to your silly posts.
