Old Paint

Is there a place I can dump used cans of paint?

retiredguy123 04-02-2021 01:25 PM

If it is latex (water based) paint, just remove the lid and let it dry out. Then, put it in the regular garbage.

There was an article in yesterdays Daily Sun about " get rid of your hazardous stuff" day, I believe it was for Sumter County. If you don't have the paper call them.

The info can be found on page 17 of this week's District Gov Bulletin. The Sumter County event is next Saturday, 4/10. Here's the link.

South of the Turnpike, kidding. Just fill your cans with kitty litter and let it dry out!

Tape the bottom of a cardboard box and dump it in and let it dry. Leave the lid off and let it dry. Throw away with garbage.

thevillages2013 04-03-2021 05:13 AM

It’s getting incinerated now rather than going in a landfill if you put it in the trash

Cliffginn 04-03-2021 05:44 AM

I don’t know about here but where I am from Ace Hardware would take up to 3 quarz a day. Give tjem a call*♂️

Lake County Transfer station , 1200 Jackson St, Lady Lake, FL 32159
They take paint and other hazardous materials
Open Saturday 8am

Try Habitat For Humanity

If it’s latex paint in good condition, the Habitat for Humanity Restore make take it to re-use for their building projects. If you give them a call, they make have event dates for latex paint collection.

Lindaws 04-03-2021 07:11 AM

Exactly!

Bill1701 04-03-2021 07:15 AM

There is a Lake County ( I believe) site on Rolling Acres. The sign says 'Convenience Station.' Check their website for hours and phone numbers. They take all paint. You don't have to dry it out.

Most paint used in The Villages is latex paint. It is not considered hazardous waste.

butlerism 04-03-2021 08:51 AM

Baseline Landfill.
Hazardous area is the first right when you pull in off Baseline Road, before the weigh station.
They also take flourescent bulbs and a bunch of other items. For bulk disposal you need to go into main yard.
Yard debris too, but I do not recommend going into that area is it loaded with that white sticky mud that will trash your car. You cannot scrub it off.

butlerism 04-03-2021 08:53 AM

Also Home depot and lowes sell a small tube of paint drying agent, a catalyst, works in 5 minutes

Rooklift 04-03-2021 08:56 AM

Not oil based paint !

Place Cat litter in the paint can. It will dry it quite quickly. Once dry, OK to put in regular trash.

If I have to explain that to you I will have to do it in person

NoMoSno 04-04-2021 08:02 AM

Depends on what county you live in.

Linda Taranto 04-04-2021 08:17 AM

Thanks for this info!

Rooklift 04-04-2021 08:55 AM

I sense you sarcastic attitude ! My point is oil based paint should be disposed of properly to a waste disposal facility. This is my point.
