Lakeside Landing Golf Cart Access to the MMD's.

I saw a thread on FaceBook yesterday about people in carts from Lakeside Landings accessing TV via a parking lot. Most of the comments were from persons living at Lakeside saying since the roads and paths are owned by the county they will do what they want. My thoughts are if they can legally access the roads with carts they can drive on them. Their false assumption that the MMP's are public property that they can use needs to addressed by somebody in a position of authority. I think of the MMP's as an amenity.

pqrstar 04-08-2021 12:46 PM

Are you talking about Lakeside Landing off of Rainey Trail???

Marathon Man 04-08-2021 01:38 PM

Would you please keep us informed of what the "somebody in a position of authority" says when you talk to them.

Bogie Shooter 04-08-2021 01:54 PM

What parking lot?

dnobles 04-08-2021 02:11 PM

Isn’t Creekside landing down by lake Sumter behind the Dr offices

Whatever is down by Lake Miona. I'll look up the post later. I was going off overnight memory. There's a medical facility on the North side of what becomes Rainey Trail.

Yes, I believe folks from Lakeside Landing can cross Rainey Trail into a medical office parking lot. There is a MMP without a gate that goes from the parking lot and crosses Belmont golf course. The MMP ends at the postal station on Churchill Drive I believe.

The question is what is the speed limit on Rainey Trail. Is it 35 mph? If that is the case, golf carts cannot legally cross.

Carla B 04-08-2021 02:43 PM

Creekside Landing is in The Villages across from Barnes and Noble. What medical facility is near Rainey Trail?

They just drive their carts down Rainey Trail and access the Villages on Lynnhaven drive. They also go into Bridgeport at Miona Shores and use the pool. Your amenity fee supports the surrounding community.

That’s really weird. They have a much nicer community pool, as well as a second lap pool. You’d think the Bridgeport at Miona Shores would drive down Rainey and use their pool.

Bogie Shooter 04-08-2021 03:46 PM

I guess no one cares in Lake Miona or Lynhaven to report this to their district Reps. Or have they????

I have 2 different friends that moved there over year ago they both have street legal carts and drive to villages connections

kathyspear 04-08-2021 09:56 PM

I looked at their new homes a couple years ago. (Beautiful homes. If you don't golf or have interest in TV amenities, you can get a lot more for your money and that pool is fab!) My recollection of what I was told is that some of their residents were driving their carts into The Villages by crossing a road that they really weren't supposed to cross and going through a medical facility property. If that access was cut off they would need a street legal cart (which legally they already needed, they were just being sneaky). I was not told that LL residents had or would continue to have "access to The Villages". It was made clear to me that cart access could be gone at any time.

That said, I don't really see why people care if those folks drive their carts to our squares and spend money in our stores and restaurants. If they can't come in by cart they will either drive their cars (which take up more parking spaces than carts) or not come (and not spend money here). I'd rather they came and spent money myself, but that's just me. [shrug]

Bring them on, in their cars. Keep the golf carts in the Villages to Villagers. The MMP's are crowded enough without outsiders, who pay for the paths. If they really want to drive their golf carts on the MMP's in the Villages, then buy a house in the Villages.

Yes MMPs are part of our amenities and are not public roads. They can ride their golf carts on the public roads but they have to be registered with MV , get insurance and plates. But they cannot ride golf carts that only go the legal limit of 20 on public roads. But people want to hear what they want to hear. Forget about the law or trespassing.

TandHSTAR@AOL.com 04-09-2021 07:19 AM

Better get our Villages ID checked at all our facilities. That's the only way to keep outsiders out of our pools, and participate in our activties. If they wanted to use the Villages MMP they should have purchased here. You cannot have it both ways. MMPs are not public roads, paid and maintained with our amenities.

This could be why there is a big push to check IDs at the pools and pickelball courts.

There was also a letter-to-the-editor on **************.com. I live in The Villages close to the parking lot that is in these rumors; they are FALSE. I drove my golf cart to the parking lot of the Select Specialty Hospital on CR 472. You CANNOT enter the cart path
that is maintained by The Villages without using your (standard) gate pass issued by The Villages.

Queenie504 04-09-2021 07:52 AM

So what? I dont care who drives here or how they get here. It's not a private gated community.

If they're using our pools, which indeed are private, or our MMPs, which we pay for and they don't, then yes, I care.

It is the homes on Rainey trail. I just was drinking on Rainey, which is 35 mph. 2 golf carts turned out of lakeside and drove down the road to the park.

As far as them going into villages pools, the CDD should have them trespassed. Once they are trespassed they can be arrested for returning.

Before anyone gets upset about such extreme actions please keep in mind that these people know they are not permitted in the pools because they don’t pay the amenities which is the same as theft. If they are warned with a trespass which is not an arrest and then return they are willfully disregarding the rules and the law. Just as they do when they willingly drive a golf cart on a road not permitted. And if you hit them they will sue you saying your at fault.

If they want to use villages amenities then pay for them.

That one earns honorable mention in the spell checker hall of fame.

As someone else said, this is not a gated community. Non-Villagers are allowed to enter and shop/spend in our businesses. I understand that the paths are not paid for with tax dollars but I would still prefer that LL folks drive a cart here instead of driving a car. Yes, there are lots of carts on the paths. There are also way too many cars on our roads. And I doubt LL people are leaving their development to use our pools. Most of our villages should be so lucky to have a pool like theirs. They just want to shop and dine out.

Isn't it great that we are allowed to hold and express different opinions? Is this a great country or what?

:) :) :)

Where do you draw the line then? If they are allowed on one amenity what's to stop them from pulling into a Rec Center and playing bocce ball or using the outside fitness equipment. I've never been checked for ID when using something outdoors at a Rec Center. If they wanted to use and live TV's lifestyle they should have bought here. As far as dine out, the restaurants can't handle the crowds in high season as it is. Let them drive their cars here like the rest of the visitors.

I draw the line at cart paths.

Currently, our restaurants need all the patrons they can get to keep from going under.

LAKESIDE LANDING, not Creekside Landing. Lakeside Landing is off of Rainey Trail just north of the Palmer Golf Course.

Yes, I originally put the wrong name in the title which has been corrected. I'm bad and **** happens.

Mleeja 04-09-2021 06:22 PM

There could be a liability issue if some one from Lakeside Landing is injured in an accident while driving on the MMPs. Ever hear of Morgan & Morgan? The CCDs, PWAC, and AAC have deep pockets. I hope people from outside The Villages comes to the shops and restaurants. Just have them do it the right way!
