Mass shootings
Since Atlanta mass shootings, US has had 45 mass shootings. What will it take to change this trend? Surely to goodness, there is an answer to this problem.

In many cases we find out that the shooter was known to local police and/or FBI. In the FedEx situation the guy had a rifle or some kind of gun taken away from him a year or so ago because he was suicidal. That gun was NOT returned to him. He then went out and bought two more. His name should have been in a database of people who are NOT allowed to purchase firearms. Is there such a database that covers the entire country? If so, is it not updated in a timely manner? I don't know ...

We cannot agree whether we should wear masks during a pandemic that took half a million Americans to their death so not optimistic. Proposed in Teaxas is a return to the Wild West..... Texas House approves open carry without a permit for handgun owners - CBS News Of course, mental health is an issue, however, I subscribe to this from an article a few years back... So many people have said that mental illness is related to mass shootings from disparate political beliefs, for so many decades, and so many different times that it’s easy to just accept the premise without questioning it. This is “illusory truth.” However: there is no factual link between mental illness and violence against others. In fact, people with mental health disorders are more likely to be victims of a violent crime (up to 10 times more likely than the general population) than the perpetrators. A 2011 meta analysis found that to prevent one homicide of a person unknown to the perpetrator, 35,000 patients with schizophrenia judged to be at high risk of violence would need to be detained. Similarly, few U.S. mass shootings have been committed by people who were “mentally ill;” there is a much stronger correlation with other issues, like domestic violence. Finally, people with mental illness are much more likely to hurt themselves than others. Two-thirds of gun deaths in this country are suicides, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Dangers of Linking Gun Violence and Mental Illness | Time Question for gun owners, who always seem to think there is some conspiracy to get them, what does a gun owner need an automatic weapon that kills so many, so quickly.....? |
It's an American tragedy with no end.

Yet wet continue to mock other countries, as if we set the standard for morality, common sense, etc. |
Come at the problem from every direction and find something that works to fix it. More education about mental health would help, more stuff about cyberbullying and person-to-person bullying made available, more realistic discussions about the effects of gun violence on families and communities, etc. Mostly done locally though. There are very good mental health professionals out their and the patients and their families would have an idea who these people are as would the other local health professionals. Get them more involved with helping people cope.

Gun controls are an infringement on the God given right enshrined in the constitution. Nothing you , nor anyone else can say, no matter how much you think you know, can change this. I have spent enough time now on this thread. I will continue watching posted ignorant views for my continued entertainment. BTW: The NRA has been clawing back infringements of freedom for many years now and they have done an excellent job. |

I posted once in response, and being steered away maybe cleared up for me some things. It appears that some confuse gun laws to curtail massacres in shopping malls, etc., by guns that can kill many in seconds with P issues and demonstrations that go astray. I do not think that was your intent, but putting those aside, last week was pretty clear... A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday morning showed that about nine in 10 Americans (89%) support requiring background checks for all gun buyers, while 8% opposed that. Researchers asked about several specific gun control measures. 74% support allowing the police or family member to petition a judge to take away guns from someone who may be at risk for violent behavior 52% support a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons 51% support nationwide ban on sale of high-capacity ammo magazines that hold more than 10 bullets Just under half of Americans, 45%, feel that gun violence is a crisis in the United States. 41% think gun violence is a problem but not a crisis, while 12% think it's not a problem at all Poll reveals Americans''' sentiment on several gun control measures, according to Quinnipiac University - ABC13 Houston But propose any of these, you will be accused of any things......none of which apply. |
