Driveway Sealer Solicitor

Beware of the man in a new shinny white pickup truck soliciting to reseal your driveway! His pickup trucks rear window has in white lettering, Driveways By Design. He is a fast talker and we foolishly let him do the job. He pressure washed the areas and did not allow sufficient drying time before applying the sealer. The result is terrible with large foggy areas and blistering. We called his phone number, on 3/31/2021 which we learned was out of state, and given a promise he would correct the issue. Have not heard from or seen him since. Please use this as a heads up when you are approached by Solicitors for hire!

They are not allowed/supposed to solicit door to door...that was your first clue....

I'm sorry to tell you that this is an urban myth in TV. It is not prohibited legally.

villagetinker 04-21-2021 05:17 PM

Contact Seniors Against Crime and file a complaint. Hope you got a license number and paid by check or credit card.

stanley 04-21-2021 05:22 PM

If anyone just stops by soliciting work, tell them to pound pavement.....period.

retiredguy123 04-21-2021 07:28 PM

I don't know what you mean by an out-of-state phone number. It is probably a cell phone. But, either way, a phone number can be from anywhere.

Gate security non existent

How do these 'solicitors' get pass the gate security? Not really looking for answers lol

HeleneGB 04-22-2021 05:13 AM

All anyone has to do is press the red button. Anyone can enter The Villages, no security.

Let them pound it, not seal it.

Who does a good job for sealing the driveways and garages? we are in the construction phase of our new home and will be looking to get quotes.

msilagy 04-22-2021 06:13 AM

How many times do the villagers need to hear ' do not allow door to door soliticers perform any services!!!"

Oldest scam in the book,! Its not that he didnt allow drying time before sealing. He didnt use a sealer, just thick black paint. Scam has been around for decades

stadry 04-22-2021 06:54 AM

its conc & doesn't require sealing

stadry 04-22-2021 06:55 AM

J1ceasar 04-22-2021 07:07 AM

Boy your hard on this guy. Door to door is traditional sales and the hardest thing in the world. Don't you remember fuller brush , Electrolux vacuums, the newspaper sales people and the milk guys as well as lawn service people. Not all are bad just many

Nick,
First you need to wait at least 30 days for concrete to cure before doing any painting or sealing, since this house is just being built this should not be a problem.
Second, make sure that whomever you get to do the work has a friction material added to the final coat, like 'shark grip' or equal, if you do not do this your garage or driveway may be very slippery when wet.

jellybeanrt 04-22-2021 08:31 AM

We do not really have security guards, they wave to the person at the guard gate, and they wave back. I wish we had real security

4pocketz 04-22-2021 08:34 AM

Buyer beware, rule of thumb!
He was only after the quick buck!

jamorela 04-22-2021 08:50 AM

This sounds like the same guy that was mentioned by a few people on Nextdoor this morning. He promised to do power washing, started the job, took money upfront, and never finished the work. His price was really high also.

Fischer 04-22-2021 10:07 AM

Oh yes it is. The villages can and does have the right.

bpascani 04-22-2021 10:20 AM

we just extended the driveway for our golf cart garage. The original driveways was painted when we bought the house, so now need to redo the entire thing. We interviewed 5 people, and decided on Aesthetic Concrete Design, Inc. There is a waiting list for most, so ours won't be done until 7-9 Jun. Ours will including grinding, painting and sealing. Not sure if the groups we considered do just sealing, but I'd think they would

BINGO, you hit the nail on the head. If you want something done you call the people you want to do it. I know he probably sounded very smart about it but you should never let someone just walk up to your door & hire them. Check with other people in TV, that's your best advertisement about getting someone instead of a scam artist. Tough lesson! Hope things work out for them.

Jerseyborn 04-22-2021 12:36 PM

They push the red button

If you are referring to soliciting - "The Villages" has no legal right to stop anyone from traveling along the county streets and sidewalks. "The Villages" has no legal right to stop anyone from entering your property and knocking on your door (only the property owner has that right). Put those two things together and solicitors can not be stopped by "The Villages". The "no soliciting rule" gets talked about now and then, but it is just an attempt to dissuade.

Seasonedtraveller 04-22-2021 02:47 PM

Thanks for the warning.

Bob45 04-22-2021 08:05 PM

I got a quote for $600 to remove a dead palm tree. I said no. A few weeks later a man knocked on the door and said he saw it and would take it down and haul away for $65. No brainer. I tipped him $20.

gdennis317 04-22-2021 08:30 PM

Misconception that they can’t solicit — no enforcement.

Lulu52 04-22-2021 09:39 PM

Had a guy stop here wanting to reseal our driveway too. Had a beat-up white truck, no lettering, just a big black dog growling and barking. Scared he would come back after I told him no. Very pushy man. Gave me his card. Called Community Watch, who turned me over to Community Standards who both blew me off with "well there is no soliciting in TV" and that was it. So you're on your own and call the police.

Hello, I just closed on a house with a decorated driveway. How often should I have the driveway sealed?

nn0wheremann 04-26-2021 03:17 PM

That Bozo came by my house. I got the impression he didn’t know the first thing about what he was doing. I told him to buzz off.
