I'm so oblivious to 'Awards shows' now, that I didn't even know about this until I happened to hear on an ABC radio newscast this morning.

Personally I have less than zero interest in celebs congratulating themselves and getting even more publicity. And I don't even know which movies or 'stars' are up for 'awards.

Used to enjoy the spectacle many years ago (like so many things...) but now, snoresville.

Academy awards

Not interested in their political statements

camaguey48 04-25-2021 07:17 AM

Not at all. These people are pretentious and self-important. Their opinions do not matter at all. My advice to them is: Pick up your award, thank your mom and dad, then shut up and go back to your seat.

Bay Kid 04-25-2021 07:19 AM

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch those spoiled, overpaid people.

collie1228 04-25-2021 07:35 AM

No.

When watching paint dry, just make sure it's not a dividing line.

They should stick with their profession of acting, not politics.

JGVillages 04-25-2021 07:40 AM

Calling them "Stars" is an affront to our beautiful Galaxy. So we can be politically correct what should we call them? HOPA's (Highly overpaid actors). Bet the ratings will be in the tank.

billethkid 04-25-2021 07:45 AM

NO!
Zero value.

Stu from NYC 04-25-2021 08:33 AM

I would but thinking tonight is my time to either wash my hair or cut my toenails.

Taltarzac725 04-25-2021 11:04 AM

I will tape it and look at it live once in a while.

Like the song numbers and to see who won in various categories even if I have seen none of the movies nominated this year due to the Corona Virus and my being pretty much here in the Villages this year and most of last year.

No movie theaters were open here in the Villages for much of that span.

Taltarzac725 04-25-2021 12:51 PM

I would be very interested in what some Oscar winning screenwriters think about some things as well as what various best selling writers think.

Some of these writers would speak at American Library Association meetings.

Clint Eastwood would have some very interesting insights on many things I would guess and he does have many different interests.

I wonder if Jack Nicholson will be in the front row tonight?

La lamy 04-25-2021 01:00 PM

I love seeing the red carpet gowns from that show, doubt there'll be much to see this year. Maybe at home pyjama stylings?!

SFSkol 04-25-2021 01:20 PM

Absolutely!

Love to see the beautiful people. When is the last time you played dress-up? I am looking forward to being introduced to top notch performances and movies that I am not familiar with.

I have no problem to actors promoting their personal causes. They donate a lot of their time and money to many worthwhile charities.

30+ Celebrities Donating To Food Groups Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

I honestly doubt you will hear many political diatribes this year.

Bass56 04-25-2021 01:42 PM

Could care less.

Taltarzac725 04-25-2021 01:56 PM

On a related note I still have not watched last year's best picture winner -- Parasite. I have it on Blu-Ray but always find something else to watch.

I have seen News of the World and would guess that is the only movie up for an award tonight that I have seen.

Is that the one where they cut out the swimsuit segment?

I never watch those things as I don't find them entertaining or educational.

Blu-Ray? For $16.99, you can buy the 4K disc on Amazon.

Was that a "changing of subject"?

It smells like older fish. Perhaps a green herring?

It is obvious that most of the Movie Industry votes like you do Mrs. Bound.

We all used to enjoy the Oscars. I wonder tonight if race will be the driving force behind the choices. Wasn't there another awards show recently that had to do with entertainment that was obviously trying to make some statements about race? I don't like connections to social justice or speeches that are political connected to the Oscars. I (used to) like just watching awards for best acting etc.

He was fabulous. I would definitely watch if he was the host!

I just turned it on. Everybody is sweating. Did they turn off the AC to save the planet?

Union Station Los Angeles - Where Los Angeles Begins

It is at Union Station in Los Angeles. Probably hard to control the AC.

Taltarzac725 04-25-2021 09:11 PM

Tenet won for Best Visual Effects. I have that on Blu-Ray but have not watched it just yet. My brother told me it would take multiple viewings to understand all that was going on in it.

It was up against Love and Monsters which I thoroughly enjoyed.

If you have absolutely no interest in movies why did you start this poll? Did you start one on the Country Music Awards? Or ESPN awards? Hmm.

I watch the CMA because I like the music and the winners rarely, if ever, make their acceptance speech political. I like that.
When I watch HGTV, I want to watch Joanna Gaines decorate a house. I don’t want to hear her political views.
I AM watching the oscars. Harrison Ford was great. I wish there was more of that - entertainment - and less political commentary.
That is just my opinion.

Sadly, the epithet “hate-filled”, these days, means anything written or spoken by someone with a different opinion. We have regressed to a third grade mentality.

terenceanne 04-26-2021 06:10 AM

Not watched any award shows in years - not starting now.

As I was flipping channels last night, I saw an unbelievably old and decrepit Harrison Ford doing a presentation to an audience that looked like the size of customers at TooJays restaurant. Watched for about two minutes and flipped to something else. It was like watching paint dry.

Shapdaddy 04-26-2021 07:18 AM

Wait of my time to listen to over bloated people as I their opinion mattered to me

Waste of time. Overpaid actors who pat themselves on theselves on the back as they they live behind their walls in guarded estates. Then tell us we should be open.
Meanwhile they threatened to go to Canada. How come not Mexico? Standard of living to crappy there! Sounds like a load of hypocrisy.

thecinks1@gmail.com 04-26-2021 07:19 AM

Nope. Didn't watch, didn't care! I have zero interest in being preached to by those pompous "elites"! It's been decades since I had any interest in their banal, hypocritical creations! Their movies are based on all the dark sides of human nature. Nothing to celebrate! Used to be such fun to root for your favorite movie! But, that required actually embracing a "favorite" movie that you actually enjoyed watching! Never happens any more!
(Did enjoy "News of The World". I'm sure it wasn't nominated for anything.)

Not a chance! Not interested in any of the political messages of those over privileged goofball.

Joe C. 04-26-2021 08:22 AM

I plan to be picking the pebbles out of my tire treads around that time. Too busy to watch the "Mutual adoration society".
