Just when I thought......
I had seen every dumb car, cart, bicycle and pedestrian move, this happened less than an hour ago:
Somebody (not a kid or extremely old person) in a regular golf cart turned off Canal St and started heading west on 466A!!! People yelling, honking horns, etc had no impact---he just kept tooling along oblivious to where he was or how much danger he was in (not to mention the fines). I just hope he and his female companion are still alive |

assume he was driving a golf cart??
Nothing surprises me regarding drivers -and I watch everyone because there are lots of people driving stuff who shouldn't. |

So, where would be the first place for the golf cart to exit 466-A safely? My guess would be Sumter Grande, the independent living facility.

Saw a cart tooling down Morse around Mallory yesterday with a Villages Community Watch car behind with flashers on. Turned off Morse by the Virginia course. Looked like a regular resident cart, not a rental. To repeat the sage advice from X Files as it relates to drivers of any vehicles in TV: "Trust No One"
|
Drive believing everyone is lost, and don't trust turn signals.
|
I have seen this happen before. Only as soon as the cart turned off Canal onto 466A there happened to be a cop coming along.

Almost got hit head on by an SUV the other day
He was on the golf cart path coming around the corner near the tunnel going under Morse I think he got on at Winn Dixie |
Those were the days! The days when I rented a golf cart to go discover The Villages! Then I took the wrong turn without knowing. Who cares, I'm loving The Villages!
|
Turn signals? What are those?
|
Turn Signals? Nah.
It took me a few months of living here to figure out that for too many folks, those blinky things on their cars and carts are not indicators of where they are about to turn but historical markers commemorating where they have recently been.

I came very close to a car on the cart path. The car was leaving Brownwood Square heading east. Before the roundabout on Morse there is a left hand turn for carts to get on the path, only the car took this turn. I was heading to Brownwood at the time and this sedan came around the corner at me. It made for an interesting few minutes as the driver figured out quickly his mistake.
Cart drivers too are just as bad. If you’ve never watched the videos of residents crashing through gate arms you’ll see some humorous behavior. I remember watching one where after they knocked the arm down and ran over it, they stopped, went in reverse, backed up over it, stopped for a few seconds, looked at it (just to make sure it was dead), and proceeded to run it over one more time. That one deserved an award. |

That happen to us last week, maybe Friday night. We were heading back to silver lake after being at the sumter square, on 466 and someone was driving right toward us!! In our lane. The big suv next to us was inching over to, so at first we thought. What's his problem...must be drunk, but no it was because the other moron was gonna hit one of us head on. Didn't stick around for the outcome. Lol maybe driving the cart path is safer! 🤷*♀️ |
Street Legal
Are you sure it wasn’t street legal?

We were in the car with our Filipino friends they are lovely people. I am a proud American yet, he pulled up next to a driver and asked if she needed help. Her reaction was to swear and give him the finger. A sad embarrassing contrast. Who knows, perhaps that guy needed help. People who chose to yell, honk etc. Reminded me of that event. |

It's not like he can make a U Turn at that point ... has to just continue down 466A to Buena Vista ..... no big deal. People who just move here make errors and we accommodate them and hope they learn quickly. Errors are not personal affronts.

To many think the goal is to prove they smarter righter or whatever than others. That is stupid. The goal is for all to get there without injury to themselves or to others. Sadly that is strange to too many people. Basic defensive driving is always being sure you know where to go, what to do if................. |

Yikes. I try to watch for those signs that say no carts beyond this point.

Instead of bashing the golf cart driver online, why not give the golf cart driver the benefit of doubt and assume that he is new to the area and was lost and may of needed help. I'm sure you remember when you first came to The Villages and you where lost like the rest of us. My question to you is why didn't YOU just spend five minutes of your time, turn around safely in your car and inform them that driving a golf cart on 466A was very dangerous and against the law. Maybe YOU could of had saved two lives and also the life of the car driver that would of hit them, or just call 911 if you where that concerned? Would YOU not call 911 if you saw a driver driving S/B on the N/B lane of the Turnpike or on any other major roadway? |
this may be a bit off-topic, but i have a question for cart riders. have you seen these 'tiny' cars, (looks like a golf cart with a top, but is designed like a car,) riding on golf cart paths? this year ive seen aprox 3 of these vehicles rising on the paths, & frankly, it looks very dangerous . are they allowed to ride there, or is it a 'lost' person?

For the sake of brevity, these carts you are referring to are actually for the most part off road golf-carts that are designed to look like cars and authorized to use the golf cart lanes. |

First of all, even if you are new to the area, you (should) know that you don't drive a golf cart out onto a highway Second, are you suggesting that I (or someone else) compound the problem by trying to make some kind of half-a$$ed U-turn on 466A, then make another, then race to come up behind him past dozens of cars and trucks in 2 lanes that are all merging into the left lane to get around the cart????? Third, even when I was new here, I didn't "get lost", and certainly didn't drive out onto a highway. Fourth, I did slow down to 20 in my convertible, drifted close enough to him to yell that he cannot be out on this road and to get off. He just ignored me. Fifth, if you are a cardinal or a bishop, I'll forgive your holier than thou attitude Sixth, welcome to the villages and specifically TOTV. I sense you'll fit right in here |
