Bought 25 year old home in Sabal Chase and need some help updating the interior. Any recommendations?
|
Sorry m, make that 15 year old home.

Show us pictures. There are a lot of people on this Forum who have wonderful taste and color balance and sense of style.
Oh never mind, everyone thinks they do. I am an avid watcher of HGTV. I say to go with neutrals. I would have wood flooring installed if affordable and neutral carpeting in the bedrooms. Use accessories and artwork in YOUR style and color preference to show color. If you introduce accent color, be consistent throughout. Are you traditional or are you clean lines and minimalist? WHAT IS the color that you ALWAYS love? |

I made our first home in Hadley all rather whimsical and beachy with white furniture and blue green walls and our second home, I brought our furniture from Cincinnati, because I really liked it.

ShellShack, OK I was going to mention dogs playing poker...However on a more serious note, there are some apps that allow you to take photos of your room and select a paint color to see what it looks like. You will need to do a search, I think Home Depot and Lowe's had these but not sure. I saw one of these for flooring also, and I am guessing that you may find this for furniture.
We have a friend that moved here over 6 months ago, and never was able to get an interior designer to her home, ended up doing the deign herself. |
shellshack....Ruth Dyer who is an interior designer has a column in the Daily Sun on Wednesdays. At the end of the column, there is an e-mail address to contact her. Good Luck!!

I am NOT an interior designer. I am a retired kindergarten teacher. I just so enjoy seeing everyone's homes. My daughter and my friend MaryB have taught me some design principals, rule of three, color matching and colors across the color wheel and adjacent colors on the color wheel, and keeping things interesting without going "hog wild". My daughter isn't a decorator either. I do like staying current with the design trends but I think that the colors presented in 2021 are not my happy colors at all, kind of drab and I love grays, it isn't that. I love to talk about and look at beautiful rooms. |
Just beware. Wife hired a decorator attached to one of the furniture places. I sort of half paid attention. I understood the decorator would prepare AFTER DISCUSSING WHAT WE WANT, a drawing, a computer printed, suggestion.
The lady showed up with a van full of furniture, paintings etc and expected us to buy them. The furniture was artsy but very poorly made and the prices were out of sight. Actually we went back to the store and the same stuff was on sale at 50% off. We, ok I bought nothing, she made it clear to my wife that she was not happy. OK she was clearly ticked. I later found out my wife paid her another hundred more than we agreed. Her value, we did pay the agreed flat fee, was zero. The extra hundred that really ticked me off-a betrayal of trust. |

Different strokes for different folks. Shabby chique is the rage with many. What is it? Most I've seen is cheaply made furniture faking age. |
I live in Sable Chase. There are NO 25 year old homes in Sable chase! Sable Chase was constructed in 2006 so at best homes are 15 years old. I would check with your sales person.

Ruth Dyer did a fantastic job for us. Worked with my stuff and my budget. Couldn’t recommend her more highly. Lots of “systemic” stuff...those arched mirrors, but I LOVE my new spaces.

With the internet today, you can get so many ideas. My cousin designed her whole newly built house from ideas she got on Houzz.com. You will them learn by looking at photos what you gear towards. Do you like cool tones or warm tones, modern or contemporary or farmhouse, etc. I happen to love warm tones and and full of Tuscany. Focus walls are big now. With either ship lack or wall paper. I once read that you pick out a favorite patterned pillow and go from room to room added each different color element to the room for a whole house flow. BUT, I'm no Joanna Gaines! Love her style.

Shelby McCracken 352-817-2511, She’s been very helpful. Utilized some of our furniture and helped locate new furniture, lamps, etc.

I am a retired interior designer with a college degree in design and 40 years of experience. A good designer will meet with their client to determine the clients needs by asking many questions. Their are people who can look at the Internet, magazines, HGTV and know what they need. Others need more help. It is better to ask for help than make costly mistakes. Many furniture stores offer a free design service. Call various furniture stores to find a designer. If you talk to a designer and they are not a good fit. Move onto another designer. Have a budget and let the designer know if you plan to use some existing items. You don’t have to purchase everything at once if you don’t want to. It is your home, take your time to get the best result.
