Solar Heat system (roof) for Pool

A lot of folks don't like their solar heat/cooling system and many throw them away when roofs are reshingled.

I love mine - and now it has stopped working.

I stopped using T&D for pool service and prefer not to use them for this repair.

I'm looking for someone who knows/works on these roof top solar systems.

Current status: Temp of water (78) flowing into the solar system returns from the system at the same temp (78). Typically, there is at least 15 degree difference between the in and out.

I get that the system is pretty basic and most likely my problem is wiring/electrical/control box - but it's outside my wheelhouse.

Any recommendations on specialized repair people?

TandD have contracted out their pool service, but I would ask if they still repair their solar panels. Our Solar Panel on roof that they installed got hit with Hurricane Irma and they were out the next day and fixed it. I cannot say how much I like TandD.

Thanks GC - I know ur a huge fan of TD...and rightfully so. I agree they do good work....however they still remain as a last choice for me.

Enjoy the day GC....

OP, did you check to see if all your valves are in the correct positions, this sounds like the water is not circulating. Also, it may be a pump problem. I do not have a pool, but a neighbor had one of these installed by Jack's Solar, no idea how to contact.

Graspher 05-20-2021 08:05 PM

Heya VT - agree it sounds like that but yes valves are properly positioned. Water is pumping into the solar system and returning to the pool. Flow is good.

Thanks for weighing in my friend...

Solar Panels

Sparkling Waters has been working on our system and we are happy with them — replaced a few panels that were leaking.

Jacks Solar do great work

I also used Solar Trek for installation and any repair work, such as the roof temperature sensor and minor damage done by squirrels looking for water. They sell a good solar panel, Heliocol, well designed so that it will not damage your roof when mounted.

Are these hot water solar panels for pools of solar cells for electricity? We will be looking for solar cell installers. Any recommendations?

We had our roof replaced this year and, of course, the solar panels that heat our pool had to come down. A contractor hired by the roofing company reinstalled the system, but in my opinion, did a crappy job. Called Jack's Solar and they came out and recommended a few adjustments and got everything working again in one visit. Highly recommended!

Hi, I'm moving into the Villages on June 8. I'm a retired pool professional who installed solar for 25 years. I can help.

Could Be Under Warranty

If your solar system was installed in the last ten years by Jack’s Solar, the most popular installer of solar pool heating systems, you may find that your system is still under their 10-year warranty.

Call Jack’s at (352) 267-4903 and find out whether they did the installation and whether it’s still under warranty. Even if it’s not still under warranty, if Jack installed it, have them perform the service. His service technician is Derrick (352) 636-9560. Obviously he knows their installation inside and out.

Jack's solar is amazing and very good value. Jack Cahill and his son Derrick know this stuff inside and out. Just replaced my system. Done in one day.

Don’t waste your time! They never show up, and if they do, NO repair but big bill!! SUPERIOR SOLAR out of Orlando. Couldn’t be happier.

Graspher 05-21-2021 07:41 PM

Kudos to VillageTinker - he pushed back on the common sense foundation...and was right on point.

I previously thought I 100% understood pool valves - I didn't. Now I do. I was misreading a 3 way actuator valve and (with a big hit to my ego) will admit I was even misreading a 2 outlet Jandy valve. At least I didn't explode the piping!

I "fixed" the problem by actually sending the flow of water to the solar system - that's all that was needed.

Thanks VT for making me re-evaluate my pool valve knowledge.

Thanks to everyone else who pinged in. I copied the contact info for the solar folks cause I know it will be needed at some point down stream.

Thanks for the help - you folks are splendid!
