Dust in home

Anyone have issues with dust all the time. seems soon as I dust the next day it’s back. Have you been able to rectify the situation

Toymeister 05-23-2021 07:42 AM

Is your home new or in an area where there is a great deal of construction? Fernandina village (OPs location) hmmm, seems less likely.

We have a central vacuum, so all the dust we vacuum up is sucked to the bag in the garage. Getting the dust out of the home is different than catching some of in in a vacuum that is within the environment that it is cleaning.

There will be plenty that disagree with this, I am sure. No comment if it is worth the price paid for dust removal, but is worth it for spouse happiness.

Two Bills 05-23-2021 07:53 AM

If you do not disturb the dust by touching it, it hardly notices.
We found that out when we changed our house cleaning program from pristine too squalor!

Mortal1 05-23-2021 07:56 AM

Dust is caused by many things...when you open and close an outside door pollen and dust come in...all the clothes in your house shed dust particles....people provide dead skin...carpets...opening a box, letter or package...paper products, cereal...furniture...the list is endless and since it's nice year round dust accumulates faster.

I suggest doing away with as many dark toned furniture as possible...then it isn't as obvious(yes it's still there)

splashes 05-23-2021 08:20 AM

check you a/c filter It may be dirty also check the vents in the house They may be the culprit

jebartle 05-23-2021 08:22 AM

If you have tile floor, might be the reason, carpet collects that dust. We have a similar problem, plus a hairy four-pawed canine. Phewww!

bluedivergirl 05-23-2021 08:58 AM

We recently moved our dryer to paint behind it, and discovered the folks who installed it left a loosely connected vent. Lots of lint and dust behind the machines. DH secured the vent, and our house dust decreased quite a bit.

My house is still dustier than I'd like.

Bonnevie 05-23-2021 09:00 AM

I noticed the dust when I moved here. never had this much at my old house.

Hans53 05-23-2021 09:42 AM

Same thing here at our house. Anybody have success with duct cleaning and who did it??

you know it! we just had tile floors put in & i swear i must sweep the floor 2x a day. what 1 dog doesnt shed, the other will make up for. best item, imo is the rubber broom: the kind you see hairdressers use.

do you have an outside filter for incoming air to your heating/AC system? Check it and make sure it is not missing and is clean.

Ac is a closed system but I change that filter every 6 months

retiredguy123 05-23-2021 07:15 PM

I dusted once, but it just came back. I'm not falling for that again.

Garywt 05-23-2021 11:35 PM

I believe that is how dust works. You dust one day and it returns the next.

Sensei 05-24-2021 02:48 AM

M & S Air Conditioning installed an i wave electronic air purification system on our unit. Dust has been significantly reduced.

GOLFER54 05-24-2021 04:41 AM

I dust once a year with my leaf blower.

banjobob 05-24-2021 05:21 AM

Hire a reputable duct cleaning service , consider how many screened doors are left open ,change furnace filters with quality filters.

guppyvii 05-24-2021 05:44 AM

I’m happy to see this post, I thought I was the only one with excessive dust. Recently I replaced my HVAC, (not because of the dust) and had the 21 year old ducts cleaned as an up charge to the HVAC purchase and went with a much better filter. Then I had the Berber carpets in the bedrooms cleaned. The rest of the house is LVP which has a different set of cleaning issues. . I still have dust, but not near as much as before.

bonrich 05-24-2021 05:59 AM

Even after changing filters on a schedule we still have a considerable amount of "dust," especially in our master bedroom, which is the farthest from the heating/cooling system. Our home is 5 years from original build and the first reason we were told about dust was during the construction of our home the drywall applicators would turn on the fan in the A/C to help dry the dry wall mud, which would suck up any construction "dust" laying around. So we had our ducts cleaned, helped somewhat, but the extent we thought it would. My theory is that there is openings in the taped seams of the duct work and what is being sucked up is the "dust" from the blown in insulation, small enough to find its way into the ducts.
Don't know if that could be true, but it never seems to go away.

Domenick 05-24-2021 06:04 AM

My A/C filter does not get as dirty as I used to see in my other homes. I think that the design of the systems here with the return so high in the ceiling that the dust is not being pulled up. Allowing it to settle on everything inside.

Kathryn Putt 05-24-2021 06:35 AM

We had the air ducks cleaned and that was the problem.

Bridget Staunton 05-24-2021 06:46 AM

Incoming air is only in commercial estsblishments

We like having our windows open when the weather is good (like it has been for the last month). And yes, we do have dust. I think a lot of it is pollen and the particles on the lawn that the landscapers disturb when they zoom around on their riding mowers. We do have dark floors and furniture, and notice it mostly when the morning sun comes in at a low angle.
So we dust and vac. (Better than having to scrub the floors).

RenoRVer 05-24-2021 07:03 AM

I just stopped wearing my glasses. It solved a LOT of problems. :icon_wink:

The face in the mirror is not wrinkled or drawn.
The house is not dusty, the cobwebs are gone.
The yard looks quite lovely and so does the lawn,
I think I might never put my glasses back on.

Tkoehrin 05-24-2021 07:05 AM

Try to change your furnace filter more frequently

dennisgavin 05-24-2021 07:27 AM

I think it's from all the cremations they do down here,,,,,,,,

The husband of a friend of mine once commented on the dust he saw on a cabinet. He is now an ex-husband. In our house, I see nothing!

Ksfirefighter 05-24-2021 07:59 AM

Any suggestions on contractors for the tile floor?
I might like to tile my iris

Neils 05-24-2021 08:02 AM

My suspect is the interior paint. Flat paint sprayed on drywall.

Anyone notice a change after repainting??

Slk9786 05-24-2021 08:13 AM

We just had Munn’s clean our ducts. Professional and detailed process. They also discovered that the duct work from clothes dryer had not been connected properly to the roof vent. Highly recommend.

withease23 05-24-2021 08:26 AM

Dust

If you're not use to air conditioning you probably don't realize the air in your home is dehumidified hence drying the air and causing the dust particles . Try raising the dehumidifier or have your a/c company do it. Many of the newer thermostats allow you to control the humidity. Hope this helps.

Burgy 05-24-2021 08:37 AM

Construction dust

There is a surprising amount of dust if you are within a couple miles of new construction.

Topspinmo 05-24-2021 08:46 AM

When it don’t rain it’s drys out and fine dust get pulled up in air when wind blows, compounded by sandy soil and fine dirt. Now if you have any windows open when cool in mornings or open storm doors, come in and out a lot, leave garage door open, all that compounds dust problem which is already problem anyway. Yes, there are ways to reduce dust some, but it will never go away.

I’ve go tile floors and don’t like it. Hard on feet, noisy, and slick if any moisture on tile. I brought big rugs to cover it up. IMO complete waste of money to tile floor. Now some spot tiled not bad, just don’t get the slick tile IMO.

jrandall 05-24-2021 08:51 AM

My home too. It is cleaned regularly and still have it. We moved up from Miami and did not have the same amount of dust. I have just learned to live with it.

How do you check those vents?

Cheese 05-24-2021 09:08 AM

Yes, this is the dustiest place I have ever lived. Got all my whole house vents cleaned. Helped tremendously. Also upgraded my filter to a MERV 13 rating. There is still dust but doesn’t accumulate as fast.
