Honest & Trusting Auto Mechanic
 

New to the Villages. I'm looking for an honest and trust worthy auto mechanic.
Preferably a mechanic who owns his own garage and not affiliated with a large corporation.

Please advise and thank you in advance for your guidance.

The people at Wildwood Tire are excellent. We have used them for five years and we recommend them highly.

We had the air conditioners replaced in our 2003 and 2005 cars, plus a lot of oil changes and other repairs.

In my humble opinion, more support for Sumter Tire and Wildwood Tire.

But avoid the "J" dealership unless your vehicle is in cardiac arrest and you have no other choice. :pray:

With 2.5 % car interest loans , you may be better off selling your cars and purchasing a New Car! Your financial situation is your business, but with the high cost of parts, you may need to explore your options! No mechanic recommended..

Hutson Automotive in Fruitland Park is very reliable, reasonable priced and honest.

I know many people who have gone there and we all agree. Also, a couple of my friends have been told they needed this or that replaced etc. Got a second opinion at Sumter tire and in the end, the issue was something else totally and if they had replaced what was recommended, it wouldn’t have fixed their issue. Enough said, Sumter TIre.

Hilton Auto Repair on 441/27 - 1 block north of 42. Family owned. Been going there for over 15 years.

Good service is one thing.
You know if you were serviced good based on the experience and how your repair held up.


But how do you know who is honest?
If you didn't get at least a few estimates on your repair/service you can't possibly know.
And who gets estimates when your car needs repair? Not many. Way too time consuming.
It's basically, luck of the draw.

I agree, Hutson is family run and do awesome work. They don’t rip you off and try to sell you something that you don’t need 👍👍👍👍

I think when you talk about honesty it means you feel you were treated fairly. Unless one estimate is way higher you really can't tell if you were taken. An estimate may be higher if they price quoted dealer parts vs aftermarket, garage rate may be higher etc. It doesn't mean they're dishonest they just charging what they feel their work is worth.

You can save, sometimes a lot of, money by using an aftermarket part. Couple years ago my steering arms needed replacing on the car I had. The dealership cost per arm was $225. The aftermarket cost through Advanced Auto was $75. Same part just didn't have a Mopar logo.

Related to your query - if you need auto body work done, I can recommend Creative Paint Creations, 2740 Lake Ella Rd, Fruitland Park, FL 34731. A couple of years ago I was involved in a rear ender in Publix parking lot in a rental car (both of us backing out from opposite sides of the lane simultaneously). Rear bumper was pushed in. Steve at Custom Paint Creations took about 20 minuets and pushed it back out looking as good as new. He refused to accept any payment, said I could pay it forward. Rental car company was none the wiser.

I can recommend Hilton Automotive on 27/441 just North of 42. They replaced a rear hub on a former car for under $100.

Sumter tire is the best in the area. I’ve been here 20 years and I’ve use them the last 15. Most importantly they stand behind their work.

We have used Wildwood Tire for our 2004 Dodge Ram diesel truck and 2011 BMW for 10 years. If they can’t solve an issue, they will recommend someone local. Matt took over the business from his Dad and also has his son working for him. Very friendly and capable.

Wildwood Tire!!! My wife had a flat tire one Saturday morning so I replaced it with the spare and we headed out to find a shop to repair the tire. By chance we stopped at Wildwood Tire. I was just going to have them repair the tire, take it back to the house and switch the tires around. They ask for my key, drove it in the shop, repaired the tire, put the spare back up in the carrier, put the repaired tire back on, did this in about twenty minutes and charged me $20.00. I was stunned. What a great service. They made me a customer.

Sumter or Wildwood Tire, both have good reps here.
