Palm Tree removal
We have a queen palm that we would like removed. Looking for recommendations.
|
Hi: We are in the process of possibly planting some Queen Palms. Can I ask why you're removing yours?

Off the thread somewhat, but my wife and I regret planting palms. We have 4 sylvesters, which have super nasty eye losing thorns, a pindo and a European fan. If you truly need a palm plant a pindo. Slow growing, hardy and lovely. Unless you have more money that Amazon, don't plant a queen. They get huge like sylvesters and you'll need to hire folks. Else, ignore all this and just enjoy! |

Removing palms
We took several out
Luis Landscaping did it for us. |
I recently heard of a company who will buy your palm tree and remove it rather then cutting it down.
Did anyone else hear of this???? |
Maintenance for landscaping
Suggestions please... we r planning on landscaping which will include a Sylvester, Bismarck , & mule palm. Since it sounds like u have landscaped extensively Can u Recc a company that will maintain the palms, bushes, which would include fertilizing & trimming and weeding beds? TIA & sorry if a bit off topic.

Tree Frog. Licensed Arborist. Amazing work.

Further proof old people are afraid of their own shadows. You are getting advice from 80+ year olds, plant what you like to look at and enjoy the beauty. The Villages would look very different without all of the beautiful palms.

We wanted that "tropical look/feel". Fast forward....big mistake. Very dirty....large seed pods that open several times per year flowering and huge berries all over the place. Need cleaning out at least twice per year at $25-$50 per palm.....price goes up as tree gets taller. We are now down to having only 5 left.....they are approaching 25-30 feet tall. They will all be gone before this year ends. There are less problematic palms to be had.....the only thing cheap about a queen palm is the initial purchase!!!! |
Queen Palms suffer from "Butt Rot" and will eventually die.
They also get boring insects and woodpeckers will do a job on the palm's trunk. Notice The Villages do not plant Queens on their property. Avoid Queens even though landscape companies sell and plant them here. Skip |
I used Windburns Tree Service to remove mine…
352-636-2074 very good job, and they were quite reasonable. Glad I got rid of it! :a040: |
Slightly off topic, so which palms are the least problematic? We'd like to plant a few that won't get too large for our yard, suggestions? We also have dogs and have heard some palms are poisonous to them, ugh.

Love our queen palms
Most of the negative things said about queen palms are true. However, we think the queens are the most beautiful of trees, towering over, long fronds waving in the tropical breeze. Sit on your lanai with a good book, listen to the rustle of the fronds blowing in the breeze, add a glass of pinot. Life doesn't get much better. Of course, if you are interested in saving money and avoiding the hassle, just plant grass. We consider our queen palms as the jewels of our landscpe.

Whatever you do, make sure they remove the stump, NOT grind because you will not be able to plant another tree in that spot for many years. Don’t believe them if they say you can.
|
Do we have to get approval to have them removed?

Take input from other folk's experience. Then do what you wish. I only wish someone had warned me about the maintenance and cost. And they grow larger by the year so costs to maintain increase each year. Picture bucket trucks eventually. And, Watch out for falling pods! |
Queen Palm
I have a friend who had Sunscape out of TAmpa bought & removed her tree & was paid a good sum of money. They also replace tree with another if you want. They need older trees for new land developments.

Note to self, NEVER plant palm trees, bugs love them and please notice the only mess you see in the Villages beautiful landscaped grounds are palm crap, seriously.
