Renting out 2nd golf cart
Hi neighbors, we are considering renting out our 2nd golf cart when our brand new arrives from the dealer soon. What would be a fair daily or weekly rate? Where would be the best place to advertise it - simply here and Nextdoor?
Cheers, Dylan |
Whatever a "fair" rate is..................Is it worth the liability exposure??

Good luck finding insurance for a rental. If you do, it will probably be pretty pricey, so build that into your rental fee.
Also, are you going to have them give you their motor vehicle report before you rent to them? Get a copy of their license? Can you find a boilerplate rental agreement for this? Limit drivers to only those over 21? What is your guarantee of payment if they let their young grandson drive it and there is an accident? That would void the rental agreement. TOTV and NextDoor are good places to advertise, but I think you have to pay to be an advertiser. |
Find out what The Villages Golf Cars charges for the day. I think its $35
What if the golf cart never makes it back to you - I am sure at least has not been returned to The Villages Golf Cars this year. |
Get GPS tracking. If the cart is never returned to you it's theft, a felony, will be quickly found by law enforcement. They absolutely love solving these types of crimes.
|
I would never take on the liability of renting a cart, I have too much to lose for such a small payment.
|
I think this is a bad idea.
You would be operating a business, which would require a business license, commercial insurance, and for you to collect and pay Florida rental taxes. Also, the deed restrictions do not allow you to operate a business from your Villages home. If a neighbor complains, you would be shut down. But, the biggest issue for me would be the potential liability if a renter gets injured or injures someone else. I don't think you could charge enough to make it worthwhile. My opinion. |
Isn't theft a felony...

I would sell it.
Then all the money is yours, and no worry. |
I agree, sell it

Florida has one of the lowest thresholds for felony theft. |
I just paid 85 dollars the past week

Rental liability for carts is high . Just ask .
|
I don't think renters will take care of your cart. Lots of good reasons not to rent.
|
Don't do it. You are still responsible for any damage caused by the renters.
|
Don’t forget about the IRS, that is income baby!
|
In our old neighborhood someone used to rent his cart to neighbors. $15/ day or $100/wk. It was nice to have the easy access and convenience when we had company. Seemed to work out ok. I would be nervous to do it myself due to liability.

There are ways to write up a contract that puts all the responsibility on the renter I assume, but in this 'sue crazy' society I wouldn't risk it. I would also recommend selling it.

Home based business
One little question??? Renting out your golf cart from your home? Sounds like a home based business. Are you going to collect rental sales tax? I thought we where prohibited from running businesses from our homes in TV. If I'm wrong please correct me. If that's the case my wife will be so thrilled to open her kennel service. Fair is fair right?
|
After the lawsuit... you'll wish you didn't try to make a few bucks!
|
Ask the Guy off of Belle Meade, who has a golf equipment sale, if TV or District Deed Restrictions gave him a Permit.
|
My advice 1) sell it or 2) Trade it in as it will be a headache keeping up with insurance , accidents, law suits and more! Leave renting to the companies

What about all the landlords that include them in monthly rental.... that's not running a business. But if course, yes, get insurance....or have renter pick up a 1 week policy. |

You may want to check with your insurance first, prevent yourself from a law suit injury.
