Clearwater beach area?
We want to get out and start discovering FLA. Has anyone been to the Clearwater beach area? Is it nice! Any recommendations for hotel or a resort that isn't 300 or more a night?? Any information appreciated
|
i can recommend ft desoto beach over in St.
Pete, right before the don cesare hotel. great beaches & cute little eateries. for an inexpensive motel, we usually go with holiday inn express. hope you have fun! |
Thank you for that information. However we are really trying to find something around the Ruth eckard hall in Clearwater to see a concert there?

i've been to clearwater several times with my inlaws,-Mum loved the shopping & Dad loved the food. it's a lovely area but can be busy @ times, so we hung out closer to St Pete & the beaches. the 1 thing i remember most re: Clearwater was the huge scientology building, lol

The sand on Clearwater Beach is like the quartz shavings at Augusta National Golf Course bunkers. Sugar sand that squeaks when you walk on it. Wonderful, clean and amazing.

Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key
We stayed here a couple of years ago and got a great rate during Sept. Nice, clean and the restaurant was phenomenal. It's on the bay side but they have a van that will take you to the beach and you can call them to get picked up. The staff was very friendly. Tiki bar, pool and hot tub.

We had reservations for 7/9=7/11 at the pavilion hotel. But it seems red tide has moved into the area so we canceled. Clearwater in my opinion is the best beach town.

Lots of water over there I hear !

If you’ve never been, I highly recommend going. You’ll have a great time. |
Coldwater is an amazing beach area. I found it too crowded for my liking, but if you go I recommend Frenchys restaurant on the beach. You can get a great view of the beach and a fun casual atmosphere. I personally hung out a little further south at the Indian Shore beaches. Nice and quiet, which is more my beat.

Right now most hotels are $300 or more , to save some money you may consider staying 30 minutes east of the bridge in a regular hotel which of course you about 100 to 150. The Holiday inn on the beach as well as the Wyndham Grand will be around 300 or $350 and if the beach is not your main concern they're nice but not worth it for one night

Okay now that you have clarified that you want to be near the Eckerd Hall, please note that it is 20-50 minutes east of the actual Beach area. I say that because the last overpass to the beach can be backed up for 30 minutes day or night. If your main concern is getting to the hall on time it's going to take you approximately 2 hours and there are a dozen hotels right near the hall from 90 to $150 your choice. You may want to consider getting a room for one night right next to the hall has the traffic can be crazy from one day to the next if you were just decide to stay at the beach instead to go to the hall. Then you may want to take one two or three days at the beach and spend the money as many have said the Holiday inn is actually very very nice right in the center of things the Wyndham Grand is wonderful for $350-400 right now because it's prime season. If however you will like me and like quirky little places you should zoom in on Google maps and find any of a dozen very small motel hotels that would be $100 cheaper and three blocks from the beach. There is also several all suite hotels off the beach. Is also one hotel which I refuse to mention as it is the worst dump in the world but always comes up cheapest right opposite the beach right next to the wyndham Grand. Don't be suckered by their price. It's really a roach motel. Remember the highway going to Clearwater Beach sometimes has at least 10 speed traps. And even when you think you get there the last two miles could take you half an hour on the inlet overpass. Enjoy yourself and arguably is the best beach in the Continental USA. If you want to take a vacation other than going to the hall you may want to go half an hour south of Clearwater there are many other beautiful beaches with small hotels on the way

Clearwater Beach area
If you're going to Ruth Eckerd Hall, best place to stay is Safety Harbor Spa a few miles from Concert hall and Safety Harbor is a lovely quaint town with nice shops and good restaurants. Plus you get to enjoy the spa with very affordable rates. Enjoy!

Safety Harbor spa and downtown Safety Harbor. About mile up the road Phillippe Park on the bay, a small beach, bike trails, walking. Ruth Eckard hall just remodeled. It's just off of McMullen Booth Rd. Lived there 8 years.

Clearwater Beach is touristy. Try Tarpon Springs. Laid back, great Greek food (like Hella's) and a wonderful island beach at Howard Park Beach at the end of the causeway. Just not a lot of nice hotels other than Innsbrook further south. Look at AirB&B instead in Tarpon Springs. Enjoy Florida. We always ask for "resident hotel rates".

There is so much more art in St Pete. Lots of small theaters, museums and art galleries. There is only about 15 miles between Clearwater and St Pete. Clearwater is truly a beach town, St Pete is different. My opinion

Last year we stayed two nights at Clear Water Beach Shephards Resort (approx. $300. per night) and loved it.
We plan on going back again soon. Catch the sunset at Pier 60, awesome. Hope you enjoy your trip. |

is it a nice beach? yes. it's very wide and there are lot of businesses and restaurants that popped up. the beach side of Clearwater is very expensive. that being said, especially during "the season", the beach is so popular, it backs up traffic literally over the bridge and into downtown Clearwater. It can be quite staggering. It could easily take 30 minutes to literally cross the bridge and then parking on the beach side is not plentiful and the paid lots are not cheap. it has its good points and bad points. depends on what you want out of a beach. Peace and tranquility? CB is not the place. fun fun fun? It is. personally, mostly it's only tourists that go to the beach. Residents tend to stay away I would have never lived on the beach side. I mean, during certain times of the year, just going to the 'mainland' to shop or something? you could get caught in some pretty major traffic jams. biking over the bridge however, was challenging (it's steep) but a fun way to go over there. personally after the first couple years, I never went on the beach. no reason to want to get burned to a crisp. but I enjoyed several of the restaurants and bars on that side |

Clearwater
Let me try to explain what we are looking for a little more vwe are going in March. Have tickets to show at Ruth one night so want to stay nearby then following morning we can move to another area for beach, towns, etc? Appreciate all suggestions so far vwe know nothing about this area

Clearwater Beach is beautiful and we love the cool sand. We usually stay at Sheppard`s resort and love it there. They have there own small beach or if you want to go to the regular bigger beach, it`s a five minute walk. Went about a month ago and couldn`t get a reservation at Sheppard`s since they were all booked. Stayed at Clearwater Beach Hotel for the first time. It`s an older place, across from the beach and it was very clean.
For food, Frenchy`s is very good and if you want more upscale, Hoilman`s Beachcomer is excellent and has a piano player. Wherever you stay, have a great time. |
