"Blue Fin has best seafood in the area"

I heard a few friends say this about the Blue Fin when we visited recently and was wondering if its accurate or if there is a better place that would be recommended.

Babubhat 06-25-2021 11:31 AM

Better than average. Like a bonefish grill

I like Bonefish too, but Blue Fin seems fresher and a step above.

We went to Bluefin last week and it was great. Went there during snowbird season, March, and it was so-so.

JSR22 06-25-2021 01:18 PM

We eat at BlueFin several times a month. Definitely the best in TV.

Stu from NYC 06-25-2021 01:27 PM

Ask me next week have plans to go there for first time than.

kidnerkim 06-26-2021 04:45 AM

Blue fin is good but I prefer the fisherman on 44 in Tavares. Not much to look at but the food is awesome@

taruffi57 06-26-2021 05:01 AM

44 goes into Tavares??

Deb1093 06-26-2021 05:03 AM

We love the Blue Fin!

Very good but Bonefish may be a step above.

Try Red Crab In Ocala

If you like Seafood Boils, I highly recommend Red Crab in Ocala, we had 2 lobster Tails with 1/2 Lb Shrimp, Potatoes and Corn which was delicious, wife had the King Crab, Andouille sausage, with 1/2 lb of Shrimp corn and potatoes, they have several combinations or you can create your own, aprons and gloves are furnished, and with your choice of sauce, we chose the garlicky sauce mild spicy which was AWESOME. Located in a shopping Center on Rt 200, it was our first time there and we will be back

J1ceasar 06-26-2021 06:36 AM

441 - yes Florida highways are confusing as 441 also goes all the way through the villages and can be known as 27/441. Just look at a decent map on Google and you'll understand.

sborlove 06-26-2021 06:51 AM

Don't go!!

The management and the service are terrible.....DO NOT GO. The manager does not care about the way the food comes out and if the customer likes it or not. Good came out cold and not edible. The manager wouldn't even come out to the table to try and make the meal better. When we complained to the waiter the complaint was ignored. Too many other restaurants in the area to give these people our money. Go somewhere else.

Kelevision 06-26-2021 06:57 AM

I’ve been to Blufin several times as well as Bonefish and I prefer Bonefish hands down. I drive further to go to Bonefish so I wish I could say Blufin was better. It would save me roughly 40 minutes round trip.

bilcon 06-26-2021 06:58 AM

The only way you will know if you like it is to eat there. We think it's much better than Bonefish, but that is only our opinion.

We ate at Havana last night and I had the best NY Strip Steak I have had in a long time and the Lobster Mac and Cheese was great.

What Restaurant are you talking about? I hope it was not Blue Fin.

merrymini 06-26-2021 07:04 AM

The Fisherman is on Route 44 in Inverness. Great place for seafood.

Fisherman Restaurant

[QUOTE=kidnerkim:
Are you talking about the Fisherman Restaurant, Inverness they are wonderful, I don’t know when they are open, love their food. Only asking because we have a date with friends every Friday night and I forgot that restaurant

Kenswing 06-26-2021 07:26 AM

Love Bluefin. The bacon wrapped scallops are one of our favorites. We were there a week or so ago and the daily special was swordfish. Excellent!

Cherstubbs 06-26-2021 07:28 AM

Really like Blue Fin, but Bone Fish is still my favorite. Can’t go wrong at either restaurant!

Mjsscotto 06-26-2021 07:33 AM

Depends on what you call “Seafood”. Salmon, shrimp, cold water lobster tails, Grouper, all items served in just about every restaurant in the villages and most of them pretty good. My vote goes the Harry’s in Ocala snd Legacy here in the Villages

Why don’t you take a chance and try it yourself, unless this is going to be your last meal? Are you going to rely on everyone’s “opinion” of what is the BEST? You will be going to ALL of those who say their’s is the best? Why not try YELP reviews, where people give specific examples of their experience?

Perhaps they would like input, as they’ve gotten lots of other recommendations that they would not have known about otherwise.

Lunch at Fisherman's (Rt 44 close to Inverness Fl) yesterday (6/25/2021). White fish for me, clams strips for wife. Food, service, price very good. Bonefish, & Bluefin are also very good, but more upscale and more expensive and have a wider selection. So if you want down home Florida seafood go to Fisherman's. FISHERMANS COVE RESTAURANT - 12311 E. Gulf To Lake Hwy. Inverness, Florida 34450 - 352-637-5888 It doesn't look like much from outside, but don't let that stop you. If you want fancy then Bonefish or Bluefin should be your choice.

ithos 06-26-2021 08:38 AM

I have never been to Blue Fin but it seems to be always busy from a passerby standpoint. The outside bar is always packed.

Several restaurants in that location have failed so they must be doing something right.

Seafood Resturants

I am a New Englander...we know seafood. Twice I visited Blue Fin to get their clam chowder and I have to say it didn't come close...it was grey and gummy. The best chowder is at Lighthouse Rest and best Lobster bisque is at Palmer.

GaryKoca 06-26-2021 09:04 AM

Blue Fin

I agree with Kidnerkim. Love Fisherman's on 44, about five miles east of 75. Nothing to look at, but great food.

Curtisbwp 06-26-2021 09:08 AM

That is a subjective question..I did not like it.

We are from NE as well and I agree on the chowder. Also light the haddock and clams as well. Not sure about these other places as I have not been but if fried seafood is not on the menu I most likely will not go. I do like a good scallop wrapped in bacon though.

Bluefin Has Best Seafood In The Area

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Sam's St. John's in Lady Lake. It is definitely an eccentric looking place, but I have had the best halibut in decades there.
Daily specials, with shrimp almost always being one of the special. Large portions. Good chowder. Great values on their lunch menu as well.

Babubhat 06-26-2021 03:36 PM

What about O’Shucks on 301? Always looks busy but I can’t bring myself to eat there by the looks of the place

I was told that the most popular item was the hamburgers.

CoachKandSportsguy 06-26-2021 07:44 PM

Fish dining experiences are personal and varied. . . from experience

Well, we have to weigh in as we went to eat seafood Saturday night, being from New England, CoachK and I have some experience:

The best experience for us both is night time tuna on our own gas grills which I reeled in earlier the same day off of Cape Cod. I must've ate $300+ of less than 12 hour old tuna tataki at restaurant prices that night. We get fresh Alaskan salmon flown in from the fish market during June and as a teenager, I used to dig and prepare steamers as well as quahogs for home made chowdah.

Note: southern warm water fish is very different than northern cold water fish.

First rate :
Blue fin and Bonefish

Second/Third rate:
Sam's St Johns. . .
The shrimp boil was very good,
the scallops, old and frozen.. . . didn't even taste like scallops.
7PM, and the restaurant emptied out.

However, every one is unique and needs to check out the seafood restaurants themselves, as seafood is an acquired taste, as well fresh vs frozen and fried versus broiled/grilled. . .

Bingo!!!!!

Example.......Oysters.
Very different from different areas.
NE, SE, Gulf, West Coast.

O'Shucks is a great place to go.
I've sat at the bar and watch a guy down 48 slim-ball and four beers.
Their oysters are usually NE.
West coast tastes like metal.
(my taste buds)

Clam Chowder..............same thing.
Different tastes/preferences by different people.
Jus because you live in an area, does not make you an expert.
It's what you are use to, what you like.

I dew (:icon_wink:) like being in the NE, getting a fresh red snappy thing and throwing it into boiling water. Yum!!!
