Accident 6/29/21 - O'dell, East Leg of Mallory Square Roundabout
3 Attachment(s)
Not sure if there were injuries. Sure looks like somebody was driving too fast and recklessly through the roundabout...

Taking pictures from a moving car-hum. |
Many of these accidents seem to involve the driver having a medical incident of some kind-- a heart attack or stroke for instance.

And object all you want. It’s a free country. But an accident is what it’s called called by most people who aren’t looking for things to find fault with. |
‘Driving too fast’ was speculated, so more likely a reckless driver. We went through that roundabout yesterday but not at the time of the accident. Hubby, a professional driver, noted how fast people took the roundabout. I asked him to let the car beside us go ahead so we could see what was happening and also keep to the speed limit. I know, I’m a back seat driver to a professional… but he listened to me.
BTW, I always have a dash cam on my car, and a GoPro on the cart… for videos of this lovely place. |

There is an article in the online-site-that-shall-not -be-named which, I believe, is about the accident. The article indicated that the driver hit the curb, causing it to roll over. No indication about speeding, but I don’t know that just hitting the curb at speed limit would cause a rollover.
|
Some SUVs can be tippy...hit anything it will roll. Ive hit curbs..im sure many have...its all about the speed u hit them
|
I’m still suspecting speed. Yesterday traffic went through fast when we were there. Hubby kept saying that he is being tail gated. Rumble strips…
|
Too many seniors in a hurry to get no place!!
The other half should not be behind the wheel in the first place. |
Good the roundabouts (according to safety engineers) are safer than traffic signals. Can’t imagine what “accidents” would occur if TV didn’t endorse roundabouts.
|
Hope no one here was driving that SUV, but if you were I hope you were OK! We all make mistakes, thankfully few of them end up shared on a blog!

Well folks, it's that time. I know nobody cares. I'm just saying it for myself. Time to take a break. I post a few pictures of a nasty accident. There's no identification of any sort in the photos. And I honestly thought seeing them might get a few folks to drive a bit more cautiously for a while. Then I get accused of taking photos while I'm driving, calling the incident an accident, and then...what was I thinking...sharing them on a blog.
I know that's the nature of forums. And I know 99% of you folks on ToTV are wonderful. But I will admit that the remaining 1% does have a limit for me, and I have now reached it. See ya later. Stay safe out there. :) |

Pavement was wet about that time. The rains were passing through. Speed can be a factor where vehicles hydro-plane. That said though----we see vehicles speeding through round-abouts all the time. Speculation by all of us regarding what might have happened. We go through that area all the time as we live off from Odell, it's a busy stretch at certain times of the day.

Safer does not mean safe
You should also understand that the roundabout has to be properly sized to be safe for the amount of traffic projected. I come from Jersey and they're round abouts there are immensely larger to allow for people for safer merging. I find the roundabouts here maybe suitable for golf carts but are not suitable for cars. And I personally prefer traffic lights as too many people are simply too old to drive safely or are too impatient to get to their next golfing tee time. Further they all seem to have neckitis which is a non-medical term meaning they refuse to turn their heads to look if it's safe to merge and he also have fingeritis which is another medical term which means they refuse to put their fingers on their turn signals and use them

Generally speaking, and not directed ONLY at the OP, I just don't see the necessity of posting a thread for every accident, sorry, CRASH, that happens in TV although it does help keep forum stats up for advertising costs. Maybe we should have one gigantic "CRASH THREAD" which everyone can keep up to date. Accidents, I mean CRASHES happen every day everywhere by good and bad and young and old drivers. An accident/CRASH is nothing special here. Now if a big black unmarked helicopter swooped down and picked up a car and took it away. THAT would be worthy of it's own thread.
Like Judge Judy always says, it's not called an "ON PURPOSE" it's an "ACCIDENT." No one planned for it. |
Personally, I am grateful to the OP for posting this thread. It keeps me more alert… and this is not even in snowbird season! And hubby who is a bit of a cowboy driving-wise will take the signage more seriously. (He has a racer’s background.)
As the congestion becomes greater with more and more people in TV and there are more and more service people to look after them, I am going to advocate that we try to change these roundabouts. Either make them bigger or put down strips to slow traffic or put in lights instead or whatever is feasible. Even if nothing is changed, I am still grateful to OP because at least in my family we will be more alert and perhaps safer. |
Odell is dangerous

Good point-Let's all remind ourselves and our spouses. People are driving too fast on Odell! I have been here almost 5 years and in the last 10 days on two separate occasions I have personally seen cars driving down into the Odell/Buena Vista Tunnel and then reversing back onto Odell. The next day the stop sign on the multi modal path going into lake Miona was hit. And someone also hit the sign coming out of Sabal Chase to Buena Vista. Yesterday I met a golf cart on Buena Vista turning into Odell. There was also a flipped golf cart reported on Morse at Odell yesterday with a 13 year old boy being injured. This is summer, not high rental season, please EVERYONE-try and keep to the speed limit-if nothing else it will remind these speeders that we have a speed limit and want to keep our community safe |

So you believe that if everyone just followed the speed limit there would be no accidents??? I think not---there are drivers in TV who are lousy even at 10 mph below the limit, there are those that shouldn't be driving at all. You can't just keep lowering the speed limit to accommodate to the lowest common denominator, or put in rumble strips, or put a traffic light at every block. Likewise, is it fair to limit a NASCAR champion to 35 mph on a road that can easily be driven at 55??? The answer would be to get rid of the lousy drivers, but that won't happen. Even judges are reluctant to take away driver's licenses. And when they do, that person just goes on driving without a license, and therefore no insurance so when they hit someone, the victim is screwed. So good luck hoping for any quick or easy solution. |
Stupid is as Stupid does 90 % of drivers are A holes

Also, it's a very bad spot because if you need to go left there to enter the Mallory gate, almost no one yields to you at that approach by cars traveling North on Morse Boulevard. It's as if there is no Yield sign there at all. If you want to go left on O'Dell towards the Mallory gate, you have to stop or get clobbered by those "privileged" ones who think Yield signs are not for them and prefer to ignore them.
