Everyone please be careful!

If you are driving your car or cart, you've probably noticed that the gates are down at all entryways. But you may not have noticed that almost none of them have the usual STOP SIGN in place. Driving from TDS to Lake Deaton in my cart today it was particularly fun dodging 2 lanes of cars that were blowing through the gate area at 30+ mph. So, please, pretty please be extremely careful at all gate crossings. And to the CDDs, community watch, or whoever is responsible----get some stop signs out there!!!!!!

Not with unknown high winds coming.

Good point!

So be super careful. I wouldn’t count on the car drivers to be cautious (except me :1rotfl:)

Bogie Shooter 07-05-2021 05:40 PM

MM path already has stop signs. Hardly ever used, now would a good time to start using.

Mortal1 07-05-2021 05:45 PM

We're all adults...some old and with issues that would and do prevent them from driving a car, but not a cart.

Expect some folks to be dim witted and slow to respond/react. It will never change in our life time so just accept the fact ****e will happen. There's nothing you can do and warning people won't work either because the folks that will cause the accidents either won't read this forum, won't remember or don't care.

Get used to it...it's called reality.

Maybe GE is trying to alert the folks who DO read the forum, DO remember, and DO care.

Two Bills 07-06-2021 04:16 AM

If the entrances had some decent speed humps to slow the traffic, there would be no need for gate arms in the first place!:icon_wink:

RICH1 07-06-2021 04:42 AM

Bring on the Speed Humps

Blackbird45 07-06-2021 04:46 AM

Why are they down?

banjobob 07-06-2021 04:48 AM

Possible power failure , they would not operate

Rwirish 07-06-2021 05:09 AM

Why would you put stop signs out when you expect high winds? The gates are down because high winds are expected.

Kayakguy 07-06-2021 05:23 AM

Please do not ask for speed humps. They don't solve the problem. I just came from a golfing community where every exit out of the area I lived in was all SPEED HUMPS. After 20+ years of driving through speed humps every day you learn to hate them. So glad not to see them here. Not only do they not really slow people down, but if you live anywhere near one (I did) you will also be driven crazy by the constant WHAP! of front then rear tires as someone way exceeding the speed limit drives over them way too fast.

TC_Arch 07-06-2021 05:30 AM

We can see the gate at Odell near Mallory from our patio. Stop signs are useless. Not only does no one stop, 90% DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN! This is a very dangerous situation. If you are crossing in your golf cart, be VERY CAREFUL!

Scary for sure! The gates have been removed in prep for the hurricane/storms brewing. Signs are a hazard for the next couple of days.

The overall problem of safety will not blow away and the end of the weather threats. Last wk a friend of mine had the police called on him for seeking an apology from a person that cut him off when he was driving his golf cart. The car turned right into a Postal center down near Fenny. This person and his obnoxious wife argued and told my friend that they had the right to make a quick right hand turn in front of him as he was in a cart. Their actions causing him to slam on his golf cart brakes to avoid t-boning their car. They told him that golf carts had to yield to cars!!! Completely false in this instance and a sign of complete entitlement.

The wife called 911 stating that this person was a threat to them and harassing them! Funny thing is the situation ended up with my friend being told he could leave and the police speaking to the people that pulled in front of him in their car.

In this case car drivers have to yield to golf carts. Common sense would just tell you that the law of gross tonnage applies and that you want to be careful when around any vehicle that is larger than you; however in the villages when the speed limit is at its highest 35 miles an hour on main roads, anyone in a car should know to yield to a golf cart or use caution out of the simple act of humanity!

Golf cart drivers should always assume that the person in the car can do them harm which is a sad state of affairs but is also common sense.

Billy1 07-06-2021 05:39 AM

No speed bumps please.

frog04 07-06-2021 06:00 AM

Watch the golf carts they don't even stop right thru signs.

Mikee1 07-06-2021 06:15 AM

First, the gates are down due to possible power failure because of the upcoming weather. It has nothing to do with high winds, if it was they would not leave them laying on the ground next to the arm motors.

Second, while a reminder is great on herre, does anyone really think posting on here will fix anything? Would be nice if it was that easy. lol

When they fail or power outage they should be set to open. They should have battery backup

debb3c 07-06-2021 06:20 AM

I’ve seen many vehicles go airborne over those type speed bumps, they don’t slow everyone

Fix anything-------No
Warn people-------Yes

We all know there are people who drive carts and tend to ignore stop signs, relying on car traffic to stop. At least if they are fully aware the gates are down the MAY modify their driving behavior

Well he warned me, and I appreciate it. (Even though I don't have a cart, he-he.) It served as a warning to be on the lookout at the gates for various kinds of idiot driving.

The reason for not putting up Stop Barricades is due to the possibility of high winds along with the tropical Storm Elsa.

Dlbonivich 07-06-2021 07:33 AM

Stop signs are projectiles.

Nah! You are probably correct! Disregard GE'S post and just offer condolences and thoughts and prayers after someone gets hurt.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like the OP'S reasoning better in this case.

Probably no stop signs because of the concern of high winds.

Very funny:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

BumpaOompa 07-06-2021 08:19 AM

OP thank you for your post and alerting others. I noticed a car barreling through the Hillsborough gate at a high rate of speed. Luckily there was no cart in their path due to habit of a gate being there. Others who want to hate on your post are sadly unhappy with their lives.

And stop your cart at the stop sign………………

MrFlorida 07-06-2021 08:32 AM

I wonder how many gates will get crashed when they are put back up ?

...and some idiots are actually advocating getting rid of all the gates. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue?

larrytx219 07-06-2021 09:32 AM

This is one very significant reason for the gate attendants being there, slow people down.

Speed bumps are a clumsy, unsophisticated answer to a problem that punishes 95% of the people for the actions of 5% of the people. The money to pave the speed bumps would be better spent on gate cameras or more Police protection.

Oh, no. No, no, no. I'm in agreement. Is the world ending?

I agree. A good description of the problem. Practically a 3rd world solution.

KimmieK 07-06-2021 11:48 AM

This will likely happen several times during Hurricane Season.
