Stay back, it could move again! Emergency response crews are probably on their way with flares & traffic cones.

How come nobody has blamed the developer yet?

Seamus6 07-07-2021 09:02 AM

CFrance 07-07-2021 09:23 AM

Has anyone contacted FEMA yet?

If only there was a Costco nearby, we could go and buy a chainsaw.

Seeing the pic tells me we made the right choice in moving to TV. They're as crazy as we are !

DaleDivine 07-08-2021 04:50 AM

Hopefully no one was hurt by that flying debris. Cudda wiped out a car.

Laffs! Clean up started bright and early Wednesday morning when the Community Watch Patrol drivers started picking up palm fronds. :)

thelegges 07-08-2021 05:40 AM

Doesn’t this thread make you smile, and laugh a little. Thanks OP for a great post.

Guessing no free roofs from Elsa. But I did have to bend over and pick up a piece of paper.

The Caretaker 07-08-2021 06:40 AM

Don’t joke about it!! We are from hurricane alley on the east coast. It could have been bad for us so thank the Lord it wasn’t!!

GOLFER54 07-08-2021 06:49 AM

Just drive around it.

Which goes to show us, don’t listen to the broadcasters, they told us that it was a major Hurricane, kept telling us 24/7.
I no longer watch news unless it’s a major issue and then, I make my own mind about it. These folks are propagandizing news and enhancing their content. Journalism died with Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley etc!!!!

Tim C. 07-08-2021 06:59 AM

Sure glad about all those people who evacuated...

Who said that? I never heard that mentioned once in all the (excessive) coverage on tv - 'tropical storm', 'possible Category One hurricane', 'heavy rains', 'possible flooding' etc, for sure but not "major".

Well said! LOL

tuccillo 07-08-2021 08:43 AM

Nonsense. It was a cat1 when south of the Dominican Republic and then downgraded to a tropical storm before moving over Cuba. The forecasts 3 days out had it as a tropical storm moving north off the west coast of Florida before making landfall between Tampa and the eastern portion of the panhandle. It was never described as a major hurricane.

Silly as it may seem, I was walking my dog and getting my mail when 3 Queen Palm branches flew off of a tree. One hit me in the foot cutting my toes and just misses my dog. Some of those branches are heavy!

Agree, newscasters over-hyped this storm. Do no recall anyone forecasting a Major Hurricane(3 or higher). It was very briefly a 1 near the Tampa Bay area.

it was quite wide felt

That area isn’t known for earth tremors/earthquakes, is it?

Social media hyperbole!

Tim C. 07-08-2021 12:23 PM

I was standing actually very close to the White House, just having come out of a meeting nearby, when the DC earthquake hit. It was a bit jolting because it was so unexpected. The east coast in general not known for quakes.

at first I wondered if a bomb had gone off in the metro (which I was directly over), but when I saw people start streaming out of the buildings within 30-45 seconds, it was apparent. The ground shook for maybe 6 or 7 seconds? I was never panicked...its just unexpected in DC...the epicenter however was in rural Virginia some 90 miles away.

Not really. But when they do happen, they travel far due to the granite underground that transfers the vibration. The "DC" earthquake was actually centered some miles away in VA, but was felt from the Carolinas up thru New England...

Think of it like hitting an iron bar. Not much movement in the rigid bar, but you can feel the vibration all along the bar...

As opposed to the CA earthquakes, which are much more centered with lots of ground motion, causing much more damage...
