UF Urgent Care Visit, Rt 44.

4th of July.
Jammed my index finger.
Wanted it checked by a doctor to make sure it wasn't broken.
("Why visit the 4th of July?. It hurt.)
1 doctor onsite. Very nice.
1 radiologist viewing x-rays remotely covering 3 UF facilities.
Waited 3 hours to have my x-ray read.
No one could tell me when the 1 radiologist would get to my x-ray.

Grand Children visiting. Didn't want to spend the 4th of July in the ER with no
assurance I would receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Left in frustration.

Where do you go for treatment of non-life threatning injuries on a holiday in the Villages? People get hurt on holidays to. Why the poor coverage?

You go to urgent care centers for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Hanky 07-07-2021 01:36 PM

Could have went down 44 to Leesburg Hospital I suppose

Two Bills 07-07-2021 01:39 PM

Couldn't the doctor check the X-ray?
Any time I have seen my X-rays it's pretty obvious if something is broken.

Oddly enough, some health care workers like to spend time with their grandkids also.

For most, a jammed finger doesn't call for Urgent care.

OrangeBlossomBaby 07-07-2021 01:41 PM

If it's non-life-threatening, the best thing to do is CALL the urgent care center and let them know you have a non-life-threatening but "urgent" medical need, and want to know what the wait time is for a finger injury that isn't bleeding. They'll probably tell you "anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours" and you can decide at that point, before you even leave your house, if you want to risk waiting 3 hours for care.

Since you were able to get home without diagnosis or treatment, it was probably slightly less urgent than you thought it was. If frustration of waiting is greater than pain of injury - then stay home. Wrap it tightly with a bandage or splint it with a tongue depressor if you have one, and wait til after the holiday to go to the doctor's office (or another urgent care center).

Paramount urgent care lady lake. Open 365 days

Servicing the central Florida area, our centers have on-site labs, medicines, x-rays, EKG & more. Walk-ins welcome – no appointment needed. Tourists rest easy, we accept travel insurances, as well as most other insurances. Urgent Care centers are a great alternative to the hospital emergency room, as the cost is less, and service faster. We treat most minor, non-life threatening conditions and all illnesses cared for by a family doctor.

bowlingal 07-08-2021 05:07 AM

go to the ER on 466A. Exceptional service! open 24/7

I’m not a doctor but I play one on TV. Ice, Advil

JeanC 07-08-2021 05:19 AM

If you were aware this was a non life threatening issue, then why did you go to the ER? An urgent care center would have done the job as well.

Exactly. And even if it was broken, so? The pain wouldnt go away because you now know for a fact. ERs take people according to priority. I wojld imagine you would be at the back of the line if others were there

J1ceasar 07-08-2021 05:47 AM

Leesburg hospital has an excellent urgent care facility right next door to them. That being said I hope all you villages stay in your bubble so everyone else can get good care. If you don't think you're going to die from something don't go to an emergency room

merrymini 07-08-2021 05:57 AM

What? Try to make sense, just try.

More mismanagement by UF The Villages Hospital! Would never go there and trust their care. It is like going to the ER at TV hospital. The OP is correct Ocala Health on 466A is hands down the place to go for urgent care! They also have another facility on 441 near Camping World. Great care!

No, maybe there were more urgent cases that needed to be tended to...

That's how triage works...

GOLFER54 07-08-2021 06:42 AM

Should have given them the finger and left.

Most urgent cares post their wait time on their web site.

To your refrigerator, get some ice cubes and a wash cloth, pack the jammed finger in ice. Eat a popsicle and use the stick to splint the finger. Whatsa matter? You never in the Boy Scouts? Maybe take a Tylenol. Enjoy your visitors. If it still needs attention next day, go to urgent care. Quit bankrupting Medicare.

I have always used LRUC in LSL near cardiologist. Husband did use new UF urgent care/ER ON 44 last year, can’t remember why, but very professional and care was good, BTW I’m an RN so pretty critical about care etc.

DAVES 07-08-2021 07:52 AM

I for one am thankful I never got involved in the medical field. Imagine every customer you deal with is sick or think they are. They expect, they demand that you do miracles, in 15 minutes ok many demand ten minutes with you waiting for them to arrive.

Mom used to cure everything with a kiss to make it and her feel better a bottle of iodine and ROY RODGERS band aids. Child protection services did not exist. Sue mom for mal- practice? Dad would settle that case with his garrison belt. Also a cure all.

Some do have x-ray equipment. Exceptional urgent care does.

Bruceg15 07-08-2021 08:31 AM

One Doctor

I was there for 4.5 hours when my defib/pacemaker vibrated. The reason the long wait that was given to me by the Doctor, (who was really nice and professional) is that he was the only Doctor there. He even told me to contact UF to, "complain about staffing" because he was taking care of all the 16 patients. This event occurred on a Sunday afternoon, and BTW not the 4th of July.

The next day I went to my cardiologist's office. They asked me if UF interrogated the device. If UF would have done so they could have informed me it was an was alerting met that I have 3 months left of battery power.

BTW, I was also informed UF Does have the equipment to interrogate my device.

Never Again

ERs are for emergencies, not jammed fingers.

BekaJayne 07-08-2021 09:21 AM

I would have ...

... had my grandchildren eat a popsicle and give me the sticks. Then had them hold them in place while I taped up my finger. LOL

I'm sorry you had that experience. Frustrating for sure. I hope it is feeling better by now!

Burgy 07-08-2021 09:24 AM

If the doctor can't look at your X-ray and say "I don't see a fracture but we will call you if the radiologist sees something, that is poor care

Doro22 07-08-2021 09:28 AM

Definitely agree

Emergency room pricing... Not their fault if you hadn't met your deductible...

I recently had a need for a doctor. Not having a GP here in the Villages, I went to Ocala ER near Trailwinds. I have never been so surprised. I was ready to wait a couple of hours. I sat for 5 minutes or less, I was called into a room, inserted all info into an ipad. The doctor came and ordered a CT and i was home with a diagnosis in under an hour without any money being spent. They were WONDERFUL!!!!
