October or November

This year, because of prior commitments and the holidays, we can escape to TV for only one extra month outside of High Season. Would you recommend a visit to TV in October or November? I've been looking at historical weather data, is October always hot? I've heard November is THE month to be in FL. And p.s. would we be lousy parents if we chose to be in TV over Thanksgiving? (yes, yes, I'm looking for justification to ditch my kids/grandkids :icon_wink:)Thanks!

November

Stu from NYC 07-15-2021 06:21 PM

October would be a little less crowded but would probably go with the cheaper month.

JohnN 07-15-2021 06:29 PM

November, easy one.

thelegges 07-15-2021 06:37 PM

November, most didn’t Thanksgiving last year, so zoom dinner. November is the best temperature during the day, and little cooler at night.

So the prices hike in November?

Decadeofdave 07-15-2021 07:08 PM

November, last few years there has been a lot of 90's on October, rents are little more in November if you rent.

We own. But don't get the advantage nearly enough.

We've been there a couple times in Oct and the locals swore the stifling 90 degree October days were an anomaly. 2 years in a row so hot you couldn't leave the AC. We cut our stay short by a week bc it was just too hot to stay. So are hot Oct days an anomaly? or is it the usual for TV?

Rwirish 07-16-2021 04:56 AM

Let’s hope it’s hot, it is Florida.

Prices and crowds hike everywhere in Fl in Nov. Holiday season

We skipped the Thanksgiving dinner back north last year. What did we miss? Hours spent on shopping for groceries, hours spent on preparing the food, about a half hour eating the food, Hours spent cleaning up the dishes and putting everything back away, watching everyone nap for awhile and then leave to go to their other side of family. I love my family but it’s time to pass the torch! My point is do what YOU want to do and don’t worry about it! P.S. I vote for both October and November to be enjoying life in The Villages.

La lamy 07-16-2021 06:00 AM

November is my vote for you and how about you suggest everyone comes to visit you in TV if they want a Thanksgiving reunion?!

Just wondering if you wrote that from inside my head? THAT is exactly what I think about the holiday. Time my children started their own family traditions, and they can invite us to join theirs.

October is when the days start getting noticeably shorter, so even though it's till a bit warm, it's still pleasant, not as hot. November is the best Fall month for weather in central Florida so I would personally chose November to come down. And no, you wouldn't be a lousy parent if you were to take a break from the family routine for Thanksgiving for one year.

Soupea 07-16-2021 07:41 AM

Usually by November the heat breaks and is way better than October which is still pretty warm. As far as guilt about ditching the family missing one Thanksgiving dinner….they will all survive fine without you. It’s only one day. You will have so much to do in The Villages that getting here the best month is worth it in my opinion.

sallyg 07-16-2021 07:45 AM

November, definitely.

We always liked coming in November. But we are here permanently now. Settle on our house in August.

You could always rent a Johnny On The Spot for the week and put it out in your driveway !! ;)

JMintzer 07-16-2021 09:29 AM

We first visited TV over Thanksgiving 2019... We stayed with friends who had move here that August...

When we told our (adult) daughters (aged 33, 29 and 24 at the time) of our plans, they were mortified! "What will we do for Thanksgiving???", as their mom or grandmothers had hosted every year of their lives...

"You'll figure it out", we told them...

They would up having a "Sisters" Thanksgiving, along with a few roommates and they had a blast. They slept over at my youngest's townhouse for a few nights, and it was a great bonding experience for them...

On our way back home, we stopped by and they fed us turkey sandwiches and other leftovers, just like we'd done for them over the years...

I guess we raised them right...

However, they're still not 100% on board with us moving to TV full time...

Our family loves gathering in TV for holidays. There is something fun for everyone to do. Each family unit rents their own house so everyone has private space and quiet time when needed, and we gather for meals and activities - sometimes all together, sometimes in smaller groups. It works out great. Whoever has the biggest table, most seats, and most dishes hosts the holiday meal, and we all pitch in with the set up, cooking, and clean up.

Tell them get on board with us moving here or their place in your will, will be going to the most ridiculous charity you can find. Personally would pick one that benefits left footed frogs.

They say historically April & Oct are the nicest. Last year Oct was very warm and humid. Mid Oct to mid Nov sounds right for us. Seems you've been a responsible caring adult for many years, and as such should be allowed to enjoy the golden years as you see fit. Let your heart make your choices, your kids and grandkids should understand this. If they don't then maybe they don't deserve your love.

No worries. We OWN our TV house, not sure how it could get anymore serious. But I do appreciate your thoughts on Oct v. Nov weather in TV, thanks for sharing.

Right! I know mine will persevere.... it's just this damned parental guilt...... I wonder why it has to be. Oh well, topic for another discussion.

You could use one of the Halls to have your whole family over plus they are equipped with an attached kitchen.

What I was trying to say was why do parents have to feel so guilty for everything, I didn't mean anyone made us feel that way.

BUT..... now that you bring it up, my kids do love to guilt-trip me. And I suppose they did have THE best teacher...... Soooo maybe this is all on me????
