Seeking recommendations for custom art framing

If you can find prints that you want online, ART.com does an excellent job of framing for about half the price of a local shop, with hundreds of frames and mats to select from.

I often wish I knew how to wood work and miter....enough to make frames and be precise enough to cut mat board. I rarely pay Michaels or Hobby Lobby anymore and try to find frames at Walmart or other online sources and couple them with already cut mat board.

I often wonder why someone doesn't sell more sizes and colors of pre-cut mat board. I know a lot of people who paint who would love that.

It is like anything else. You can buy the equipment and learn to do it yourself or pay someone else to do it.

I just had a beautiful painting done of one of my dogs and wanted custom framing. I went to Framemaker's Gallery in Leesburg. I was extremely impressed with their frames and matting. The painting will be triple matted, custom made frame and museum quality glass. Lead time is about 2 weeks.

Kings Gallery in SS did a great job, but they are a bit pricey

JeanC 07-22-2021 04:55 AM

I second frame makers in Leesburg. Great service. Caring folks.

cdburdick 07-22-2021 05:04 AM

There is a huge booth at Marion Market that sells prints and does custom framing. They did a flawless job, at a very reasonable price, with my artwork. They were helpful and knowledgeable.

It is hard for me to pay fifteen bucks for a thin piece of poster board-like stuff.

I don't sell my stuff, I give it to friends and I like to give it to them matted.

That is very good to know. How much do they charge for a simple framing with mat for say a 16X20 picture?

Walmart matted frames;

Michael’s on 441 and Rolling Acres does custom art framing. I’ve had a couple art pieces done there and they do a good job, although a little pricy

I have some beautiful frames that were done by Michaels.
the people there really know how to showcase the artwork

Art Framing

I've always had my framing done at Michael's. They do great work, and often have huge discount offers for custom framing in the newspaper.

Does Art know you're trying to frame him.........

cdburdick 07-22-2021 06:49 AM

The price of the framing at Marion Market was very reasonable, but I can't give you a price for the size you mentioned. You can choose from plain to elaborate frame material, matted or unmatted - they will give you a quote depending on what you choose. Turnaround time for me was one week. I've used Michael's, and the vendor at Marion Market was far superior, in my opinion.

sallyg 07-22-2021 07:00 AM

I have had several pieces matted and framed and a couple of posters dry-mounted, matted and framed at Michael's in Lady Lake. They did a nice job.

Talk to Dan. He did a great job on framing for us at a very reasonable price compared to Michaels. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Dennis @ DK's in Leesburg. He does a fantastic job and his selection of frames is huge.

BoatRatKat 07-22-2021 07:14 AM

I do all of my own framing but if I didn't I would use DK in Leesburg, their work is very good. I would avoid Michaels.

JanetMM 07-22-2021 07:23 AM

I also vote for DK on 441 in Leesburg. Happy with their work.

Glen Haven Gallery does an excellent job. They are located in Leesburg at 2545 South Street.

Hi, One of the best framers in the area is Glen Haven Gallery. They are in Leesburg near the High School at 2545 South Street, Leesburg, FL 34748 (352) 787-7954.
Just visiting the shop is well worth it for the antiques displays and of course the Marmoset monkeys are just delightful.

taruffi57 07-22-2021 07:50 AM

I've spent $thousands with Michaels, but even with their discount ads, they caused our divorce. Prices

There is no question that they do the framing and matting beautifully, but if you paint and want a lot of things framed that adds up. I am always looking for older frames. (large ones)

Rhonda West 07-22-2021 08:19 AM

As a professional picture framer for over 30 years my advice depends on how much your art means to you. If you CARE about your art you will go to The King's Gallery...if you don't care about your art you will go to any one of the other recommended entities. BTW - many of the mentioned framing "stores" use frames that are actually plastic or extruded foam. If the corners pop or if you want it cut down, or you need it repaired, it can NOT be done. People think they have solid wood frames but they do not! NONE of these places will tell you they have sold you a plastic frame! The King's Gallery has NO plastic frames and they do everything to PROTECT the art.

In all fairness, art itself is creating an illusion and if the frame succeeds in looking like wood that is fine.

I understand that framing just a couple of pictures is one thing and framing a lot of them like we painters do is another, but I couldn't resist just saying how much I wish I knew how to do it.

Thank you for having the skill and running a successful business. I respect both.

The best place by far is Hobby Lobby. We just had a custom piece framed at the Ocala location. Their work is perfection and their prices unbeatable for the quality. And you enjoy can lunch or dinner at Yummy House Chinese restaurant for an extra treat!

If you are looking for some really nice high end work with a wow factor give Glen Haven Gallery a look....
We had them mount and frame a tapestry that belonged to my grandmother and create a shadow box arrangement of some hand made fine needle point that my wife's aunt made back in the 30's.

lot's of places will put whatever you have in a frame...then there are the shops that have a creative flair, those are the ones that make a difference...Glen Haven takes your concept and turns it into something really special

Visit their showroom and you'll see a number of items waiting to be picked up....great selection of frames

We have used them too. Always fun to browse around there too.

My husband used an old frame to frame this portrait I painted of our kitty.

Framing shop at Spanish Springs

Kings Gallery, a framing shop/art gallery next to the candy store on Main Street in Spanish Springs does excellent custom work and has an extensive choice of materials.

Custom framing, itself, is an art, and the choice of a frame and mat can enhance or diminish the quality of a painting, print, or photograph. The lovely English lady who owns the shop has excellent taste and provides great recommendations and quality work.

rogerk 07-22-2021 12:16 PM

I’ve used King’s Gallery for years! They do excellent work while providing VERY helpful advice. Check them out and SHOP LOCAL!

Completely agree. I have a nice landscape I painted on a piece of flat wood, nothing special though. Then I took it to a gallery (up north) to have it framed, they picked up a dominant color in the painting and made a recessed frame for it. Wow! The effect made my painting art worthy.

I also had work done by the folks at Marion Market. It was done several years ago and has held up well and still looks great. They were very reasonable.
