Golf Cart in Dash Gas Gauge...
Does anyone know if anyone can convert the gas cap gauge to an in dash gas gauge in an older Yamaha Golf Cart?
|
I don't know if Village Discount Golf Car does this type of retro fit on older carts, but when I purchased a new cart from them last spring they installed an in-dash gauge to the new cart which only had the gauge on the tank screw cap. They have 2 stores, one on 466 (which is more of a showroom) and one (with their garage/workshop) just north of the corner of 441 and 42. You might consider stopping in the store and asking. I don't have any idea of the cost for this feature, since I negotiated the deal on the condition that they provide the in-dash gauge as part of the original quoted price.

Save your money and just lift the seat up and look at the tank. If it's getting empty then fill it. Works for me.
|
I don't think it could be because the gas tanks with an electronic gage and fuel pump has a 4 inch fitted top plate which is screwed on.
|
You have to have electronic sending unit in the gas tank and wiring to electronic single gauge in dashboard. I agree, cheaper to just check gas by lifting seat, I suggest you check the oil level at same time.

I have a speedometer on my cart - should get about 240 miles on tank of gas. Start thinking about getting gas when driven 200 miles.

Fuel Gauge and Gas Tank Sending Unit for Golf Carts, LSVs, and UTVs | GolfCarCatalog.com
Watch out for sparks. |
My neighbor has one on the used cart he bought. I don't think the gauge works right half the time.

In dash Gas Gauge
Village Discount Golf told me $150 to install the dash gauge if I decided later to get it. I didn't bother with it when I bought the cart.

We were told the in dash gauges aren’t very reliable. Just saying….
|
kits are available for retrofit
Its possible to install a sending unit into the tank and a gauge into the dash. In my quick searches I found a couple examples below.
I searched under "Fuel Gauge and sending unit for golf cart" as an example. Fuel Gauge and Gas Tank Sending Unit for Golf Carts, LSVs, and UTVs | GolfCarCatalog.com https://www.amazon.com/RUPSE-Univers...41496842&psc=1 |
Todd Casey did mine which is a 2011 Yamaha. 352-256-2068. I’m very satisfied.

Thanks for all the replies...
I'll consider my options... |

It takes about 2-3 hours to do your first time. Cost in parts was about $55 from Amazon. When buying the parts there are two styles (0 = full or 0 = empty) be sure to match the correct sending unit and gauge. (240-33 ohm is what i used) - and be sure they are marine style (waterproof). Also need a fuel stable sealer - even though the unit comes with rubber seals i preferred to not have any issues later! (Auto parts store stocks the sealer) Wiring - connection to accessory wire (ie key is on and wire is hot) and lights - so the dial lights up when the headlights are on. Did these about 6 months ago - and both are great. The vertical float sending unit is more precise when fuel is sloshing around the tank. Also doesn’t get in the way of preexisting fuel lines in the tank already. Wife loves the fact she can visually see the levels without remembering to lift the seat. |
Googling found kits available starting at around $25.

Use aluminum 12” ruler to verify level.

I have a 2012 Yamaha, that I had a in-dash gas gauge installed about 3 years ago.
Works just fine. The cap gauge is still there, seems to coordinate with the dash gauge. Was installed by T.V. cart service in Brownwood. Got to use a free loaner for that. At that time I had a coupon that got it installed at no charge, but those coupons are no longer around. Not sure about the set up on newer carts. I think now their cost is around $100. +/-, just call them for their price. |
I bought a vertical fuel level sensor and gauge. I did NOT want to cut into the tank, so I found an extra gas cap (Yamaha), and was able to slightly modify the vertical fuel sender to fit INSIDE the gas cap. The good news, it reads empty correctly, the bad news it does not read full very well, but since empty is the important this works really well.
Send PM with phone number if you want the gory details. |

You were told wrong. The gas cap type is cork that floats and the fuel injection is electronic gauge just like in you’re vehicle. If cork not actuate then it’s old or sticking and needs replaced. |
In dash gauge is not that difficult , easy DIY , You Tube it.
