New front entry door

We want to replace our existing front door and side-light. Any recommendations on where to purchase a good one and someone to install it?

retiredguy123 08-14-2021 09:17 AM

I don't have a specific company, but I would buy the door from a door and window company and have them install it. Installing a door correctly is not easy, and not something I would want a typical handyman or jack-of-all-trades guy to do.

Mrprez 08-14-2021 09:35 AM

I agree, ours was not installed properly and undue pressure is placed on the upper hinge pin causing it to squeak and even bend. This condition is not corrected with any type of lubrication. The entire door needs to be removed and rehung properly. Not a handyman type task.

Entrypoint by Perry's Bichara Blvd.

Whomever you buy from should also be the installer, and make sure it and the install meets the current building code (hurricane force winds, etc.), not a handyman type project.

We just requested two quotes to add a glass insert to our existing door or just replace it (we are considering the options).. We called Perry's EntryPoint.

Lowe’s and Home Depot have done a great job in past. Home Depot guaranteed results.

You should take out one of the hinge screws that are closest to the center of the jamb and run a long screw with the same head into the stud that is behind the jamb. Maybe 2-1/2” screw. Also hinges can be replaced easily

Thanks!

To answer your question, Thermatru would be the door manufacturer of choice. They have a online website where you can design your own door and sidelights configuration and then take it to a local Thermatru dealer and get a quote and order it. Try Romac first.
Therma tru is the nation's leading door manufacturer.

There website is Thermatru.com

We had them cut out our solid door and install full length designer glass and matching side light, love it. About 1600.00.

I’ve done the longer screw thing. I may try to replace the hinges next.

Entry Point on 441 in shopping center where Publix and Belk are. Entry Point is on the end close to Spanish Springs. I replaced my front door and side light. They have beautiful choices and get it done beautifully. Definitely recommend!

Singerlady 08-15-2021 07:40 AM

EntryPoint by Perry’s on Bichara. They save your door by cutting out the guts, inserting beautiful privacy lead glass and replace your sidelights with a matching glass. It’s beautiful and very cost effective considering the price of buying all new.

Villages Kahuna 08-15-2021 07:42 AM

The company that has done thousands of such installations here in The Villages. Entrypoint by Perry next to Publix in Spanish Plaines shopping center. They did our front door, sidelights and half round window above the front door. They also have a terrific selection of leaded glass designs in all price ranges.

FUSSY LADY 08-15-2021 07:59 AM

I used Perry's for my double front entry doors and transom over them and they did a fabulous job!

sfryzel 08-15-2021 08:16 AM

Business called Entry Point on 466.

brianherlihy 08-15-2021 08:28 AM

we just mover in to a new home and the front door has a 3/4 gap at the bottom / called Residential Construction and Home Warranty and was told to call massey what a joke

Nell57 08-15-2021 08:42 AM

Does the whole door need to be replaced?

We worked with Perry’s. Structurally our door was fine. They were able to cut out the wooden center and replace it with decorative glass to let in more light. They did the same with the sidelight.Lots of beautiful designs to choose from.

rogerk 08-15-2021 08:44 AM

Call Perry Glass in SS. They are excellent and reliable.

Take a look down at Ro-Mac on Main Street in Leesburg. They have several to look at in house and catalogs with many, many options.

gemini5001 08-15-2021 01:42 PM

And why wouldn't you want "a typical handyman" to do it ?
I am a handyman and do a lot of work in TV and you would not believe how many calls I have received to fix things right to some supposedly "installers" from certain companies botched the initial installation.

meme5x 08-15-2021 01:42 PM

Perry Glass.. they do a spectacular job, a little pricey but love the result.. couldn’t be happier

I have nothing against handymen and I often refer people to several of them. But, if I were buying an expensive item like a front entry door, I would want the door supplier to install it and to guarantee the installation. I have seen door installations done incorrectly, and they are often difficult and expensive to repair.

Lived here fifteen years and the people who answer the phones at home warranty are smart, helpful and extremely patient.

I do think this.........The nicer you talk, the better you get treated.
