Old news, been posted here several times, but they still haven't broken ground. Hopefully the next thread will have an opening date, if it's even built.

A friend of ours is in Mgmt with Costco and confirmed the Clermont location. I think he said 2023 early was expected date. He is from the area and monitoring closely to apply for position as it progresses.

Lottoguy 08-19-2021 08:22 AM

A Costco in Ocala will come some day. Watch and see.

billethkid 08-19-2021 08:51 AM

Using Arnold Palmers CC as a point of reference.....
30 plus or minus miles to Clermont
30 plus or minus miles to Ocala

This is not the Costco location we were hoping for. Kind of far away.

44 miles from Lake Sumter Landing.

Velvet 08-19-2021 10:49 AM

Still too far for fresh fish etc. we use a cooler but it’s not good enough. I guess Costco is not really interested in The Villager’s shopping. On the other hand, the crowds and congestion associated with every Costco store is also far away. :)

Actually it is 43 miles from the Arnold Palmer CC to the future Costco in Clermont.

That is why we will stick with Sams and might give BJ a try

Google maps tells me that from the intersection of 466 and Morse to Clermont is 35 miles and 48 minutes. I’d be happy to have a Costco in The Villages instead of a new BJ’s, but as it is, Sam’s Club is only ten minutes away, and I won’t be driving to Clermont.

Yes, but it looks like the Costco site is on Rt 50, near Magnolia Point, about 7 miles east of the "Clermont" Google map location, so the distance would be about 42 miles. But, if you use the turnpike route, the Costco site would be 46 miles from Rt 466 and Morse Blvd.

Yucatan2 08-20-2021 05:55 AM

For me, in Del Mar, it is 51 miles to Costco in Altamonte Springs. Not much improvement to go to Clermont.

I love when people argue over things like distance, that's one hour by car the most places and I know plenty of people live in Wisconsin or Iowa who have to drive that every week to get to a supermarket

Not arguing, but the topic of the thread is about the distance to Costco.

Argue this is one of the most peaceful discussions ever on here.

bowlingal 08-20-2021 06:29 AM

you do know that there is a Sonic right in Leesburg on 441?

Nucky 08-20-2021 06:33 AM

We just went to a Costco with our son in N.J. Please tell me what the hell is the big deal? Am I missing something?

Don’t make a remark about N.J. being something to do with it not being so great.

As far as I can see it’s NOTHING more than a personal preference to choose Costco. What a joke. Drive an hour each way to save next to nuttin. Crazy.

Mrprez 08-20-2021 06:46 AM

I only have a membership for the hearing aids. We drive to the one in Lutz. Straight shot down I75. 45 minutes from Fenney.

No fresh fish at Costco. Actually nothing fresh there but the hotdogs on the way out.

Buy local. Save gas, time and support Americans.

toeser 08-20-2021 07:52 AM

"COSTCO really will be close"

For Villagers north of 466, not so much. Shortest route from my house would be 35 miles and there is quite a bit of The Villages north of me.

MrFlorida 08-20-2021 07:55 AM

Guess it's still Sam's club, at least its local.

chasandvalr 08-20-2021 08:01 AM

I heard through a community update that Costco has been invited by Ocala several times to build and they have turned them down sighting too much competition which included Sam’s. Hearing that really surprised me.

Melly 08-20-2021 08:09 AM

Maybe old news but some new people here have not read it.

Chi-Town 08-20-2021 08:15 AM

Ocala would be better as it is more of a regular destination than Clermont. Going to a Clermont Costco would be just a trip there and back.

kappy 08-20-2021 08:15 AM

If BJ’s is coming and Sam’s Club is already here, how long do you think it will take for Costco to realize they need a presence in our area?

Bilyclub 08-20-2021 08:17 AM

39.3 miles for me with a straight shot down the Turnpike will be worth at least one drive there.

Dond1959 08-20-2021 08:46 AM

Not sure where exactly in Clermont it will be located but for me south of 44 it says 28 miles and 40 minutes to Clermont. That’s just a little more than getting to Sams. I think my wife will be making the trip and replace Sams with Costco. The growth in the south may prefer the trip to Clermont on the turnpike. Again, it is personal preference and where you are located. An Ocala location for Costco we would never use.

I think the Google Maps specific location for "Clermont" is actually about 7 miles west of the Costco site. So, your distance may be more like 35 miles.

wamley 08-20-2021 08:58 AM

Doesn't actually look like it's CLOSE to TV, 48 to 53 minutes away based on Maps directions from the Villages to Clermont. TV just doesn't meet Costco demographics population and family structure I'm afraid.

taruffi57 08-20-2021 09:43 AM

Clermont is not "close".

CoachKandSportsguy 08-20-2021 09:55 AM

have never been to costco, sams club, and only in emergency to walmart, not sure what the big deal is want to bring all the congestion to TV,

but what is interesting is that COSTCO doesn't want to go to OCALA because of price competition . . so what does that say about the prices which will be in CLERMONT?

as I said, i don't get it

I had to look at Google maps since I’ve never been to Clermont, and also, never been to a Costco.

I know lots of people on here have said they really like Costco. However, since I retired, I don’t really want to go long distances to go shopping, and Google maps says Clermont is about an hour’s drive. I currently shop at Sam’s about once a month which is a 10-minute drive for me. They have everything I want/need, so I guess I’ll continue with Sam’s.

Velvet 08-20-2021 02:20 PM

I’d like to see Costco deliver fresh food to TV. Then it wouldn’t matter where they are located.
