Black tee players

I am new to the Villages (2020) and played mostly with add on players. Looking to see if there is a group of golfers who play the black tees and how to find out about them. Will be down in winter but would like to get going as soon as I get there.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I suggest you call one, or several of our country club professionals. In most sports including golf, the better players know who and where the better players are. Good Luck!

Velvet 08-20-2021 02:58 PM

Are they the color of tees or the people? I am just learning to play golf.

dewilson58 08-20-2021 03:59 PM

If you are talking Championship Courses..........
There is a group called, The Blue Tees.
As the name indicates, they play from the blues.

Rarely will you find a gold tee player.
Black tees are pretty dusty.

If you are talking Exec Courses.......doesn't really matter.

Hmmm….

From my experience, many players play the gold tees on champ courses.

And the tee color on Exec Courses DEFINITELY matters!!!!!

Would love to see gold players

Executives???................oh no, an eight iron vs. a wedge.

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Mike was beginning his pre-shot routine, visualizing his upcoming shot when a voice came over the clubhouse loudspeaker, “Would the gentleman on the Ladies tee please back up to the men’s tee, please!” Mike was still deep in his routine, seemingly impervious to the interruption. Again the announcement, “Would the man on the women’s tee kindly back up the men’s tee!” Mike had had enough. He shouted, “Would the horse’s ass in the clubhouse with the loud speaker kindly shut up and let me play my second shot!”

A long iron vs. a lob wedge is not unusual at all. Oh yes.

There is a gold tee group that plays regularly here. Golds are just short of black. My buddy has played with them. They have a money game weekly. They are well known so the ambassadors and staff will have info on them

LOL...anytime you want to play Pelican or Roosevelt from the Black , I'm in.
And we'll see if Black executive tees don't really matter..!!!!!!..You have to be a hack carrying a 20 thinking he's a scratch.

Bay Kid 08-21-2021 06:41 AM

All the different tee box choices help the executive courses to be interesting. I'm always a single golfer so I just now play whatever the group plays. Pelican from the black is really fun!

.

Don't be so sensitive Sheldon.
Roosy & Pel are nice.

Significant difference between Exec black & Champ black. :ohdear:

beeneyra 08-21-2021 07:47 AM

Might want to add your location and if your talking about exec course or the so called championship courses.

Marine1974 08-21-2021 07:47 AM

Then there is the group who play the tips of the very back of the back tee box . Get all of it .

Two Bills 08-21-2021 08:28 AM

I have played with a lot of black/back tee players using drivers on Execs. who would still struggle to hit a green in one, if they played off the green/front tee.
After about five holes they usually start saying how they use Execs to practice chipping round the green!

I would argue that playing the so called black tees on an exec course doesn't qualify anyone as a "black tee player". To those that think they are great golfers because they play an exec course from 1600 yds instead of 1300 yds, think again. Let's go play a 7400 yd course and see how great you are, especially anyone who needs to bring a driver to an exec course

jmkeyzers 08-21-2021 08:51 AM

You are most likely too ignorant to read the post or golf. It says black tees. Why would you interject race.

As some suggested, ask an ambassador or one of the pros at the golf shop.
I play the black tees at El Santiago every week. But that's probably not what you are looking for.

tvbound 08-21-2021 09:13 AM

Having played a few courses from the gold tees on our visits, it quickly became evident that it's a different course from back there. My hat is off to those who play the black/back tees, as I'll just go ahead and avoid the embarrassment - and stick with the blues.

Almost definitely not. Just basing that on "pga" as part of the OPs user name.

Gac57 08-21-2021 09:57 AM

I haven't played here yet.In KY. (Mineral Mounds State Park) I played the white or blue tees. I played about once-twice/yr. so I'm lucky if I break 50. We are living in the Amelia area, what course should I start with? I know the driving range but don't know for sure which one.

Larry1943 08-21-2021 10:14 AM

Black tees

If you are referring to Executive courses, we play the black tees every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at Amberwood, Oakley, Briarwood, and Walnut Grove. If you are interested in playing with is, when will you be arriving and what part of the Villages are you in?

Gac57 08-21-2021 10:23 AM

We live in Mallory (Amelia). Don't know those courses. I'll look them up.

Madelaine Amee 08-21-2021 10:31 AM

I have a black tee box right behind my home on Glen View. Seen maybe a handful of players use it, mainly the young professionals who work here.

Funny how it becomes just a chip and a putt for par.

I thought he might be talking about black teas. A lot of people drink that yucky green stuff.

And some people look for a way to be self righteous and they are no fun at all. You are not one of them Mr. D. Wilson.

Paul1934 08-21-2021 11:29 AM

Ok, we have been through high tea responses and nonsensical mixes of executive and “championship” course approaches.

As an aging middle single digit player, I have found that a mix of blue and gold tees somewhat replicates a Northern Blue course. Most mixes in the village run about 600 yards less than what we played up North.
That being said, I see too many golfers on the wrong tees. Basic guide should be:
Par 3, on green off tee,
Par 4, inside 150 off tee,
Par 5, inside 100 after 2nd shot.
As a once practitioner of the occasional 300 tee shot, loved to drag the young bucks to the forward tees and watch them struggle to make par.
Every tee is a different course. Same tees every time becomes “habit golf”, where you could go out with 5-6 clubs each time.
For what it’s worth.

I would start with Ashley Meadows course of the NANCY LOPEZ LEGACY golf club. The club has three nine hole courses and I think the Ashley Meadows course is the most forgiving(Torres Pines and Erin Glen are the other two nines there). It starts off with two easy par fours, then a reachable par 5 with a wide fairway that even I can hit.

Good Luck

Maybe you don't play Exec courses, but Palmetto alone from the Black tees on the 7th and 8th holes are over 370 yards.
So with that said, bring your driver, Sir. :ho:

Under 400 yards, I don't use a driver..........thinking about my approach iron.
