Flu Vac/ Covid Booster

I want to receive both . Question is when and how far apart should they be spaced? 8 months after second Pfizer vac would be October. Don't want to get flu vac too early.
TIA

That is definitely a question for your doctor or pharmacist.

Can those eligible for a COVID booster shot also get a flu shot? | KSNV

I wasn't eligible for my vaccine until April, so in January and March in received my two shingles vaccine doses. Recommended then to wait two weeks between vaccinations. That was changed to no waiting necessary. Seems to be the same advice for flu/booster doses. But of course, seek your doctors opinion.

I am getting the booster this week and I was told no other vaccines for 2 weeks before to 2 weeks after.

patfla06 08-23-2021 01:31 AM

Doctor at Villages Health said 2 weeks between flu shot & vaccine #3.

How about you ask your dr. Would you actually follow advice from this page?

Ralpha 08-23-2021 05:23 AM

I got my booster and flu shots at the same time at Publix Pharmacy at the suggestion of the pharmacist who gave me my vaccinations.
I had no ill effects from getting both of them at the same time other than some discomfort at the booster injection site.

Because of underlying health issues I qualified to get my third Moderna now and I received it last week at my local Publix. My second shot was in April. In cases like mine, it is considered a third shot rather than a booster. For the general population you would receive your booster 8 months after your second and it should be from the same manufacturer. Besides a headache and an itchy arm with a welt, I’m fine. Since I typically get my annual flu shot in early October, I will stick to that. You should speak with your physician and pharmacist for their input. FYI if you plan to schedule your vaccine with Publix at Mulberry, it is incorrectly listed under Sumter County instead of Marion. I did mention that to the pharmacist but I doubt that it has been changed to the correct county.

Thanks for the complete and thoughtful response.

I always balance these type of thoughtful responses with official medical advice based on statistics in an 8 minute session. That advice is also represented by the "Doctor says" responses on this forum. Let's keep the dialogue open.

Thanks again!

Spacing vaccinations

I suggest a 2 week separation between your flu vaccine and your covid vaccine, if possible. I say this NOT because there is an interaction between the two vaccines (there's not). However, if you take the two vaccines together and then experience an adverse reactioin, you will have way of knowing which vaccine was the instigator. PS-And yes, I am a pharmacist.

msilagy 08-23-2021 07:30 AM

Every Dr and pharmacist will give their own opinion with no evidence based facts. Use your own judgement after hearing theirs.

Flu Shots

My daughter is a pharmacist and she has been giving COVID vaccines and flu shots at the same time. There is no waiting period unless you want there to be.

We all must realize that we are in Deep S*** when Churches are asking people to mask up.
Guess god only can protect so many, and let's not worry about school kids, it will only make them stronger

best to ask your doctor on that one. I did get the booster, I did not wait 8 months after last vaccine.... they said 28 days you can do this. However, I was 5 months after last dose and compromised. I think 8 months if your NOT compromised. For ME, no way would I mix vaccines and the further apart the better.... So

Heard a reputable doctor say there is no spacing for booster and flu shot. You can get at same time.

I am not doubting you but as a retired nurse I personally would wait at least two weeks between vaccines. Should you have an allergic reaction you would have no way of knowing which vaccine caused it. It is always best to air on the side of caution.

Make sure your pneumonia shot is up to date.

OrangeBlossomBaby 08-23-2021 10:02 AM

I'm lucky that I shouldn't be getting the booster until December. I plan on getting the flu shot in early October (unless Publix gives out another gift card for getting it in September like they did last year). Plenty of time for all.

Byte1 08-23-2021 10:11 AM

I understand from a good authority that the flu vax and additional covid boosters are going to be sold at the local grocery stores in the form of a soft drink that you can take daily, along with your daily morning vitamin drink. It won't matter how much you drink because the more you drink the more protection you will have..............in your mind. :a040: :1rotfl: :1rotfl:

Oh yeah, and for the first thousand customers, a free box of Kleenex brand disposable tissue masks will be given with your breakfast drinks.

Yeah all the people who refused to vaccinate and made fun of people who did, who got COVID and died from it, are having a hoot right now laughing at me. Oh wait - they can't. They're dead. :coolsmiley::a040::a040::clap2:

Hmm, how many MILLION did not get vaccinated and are still alive and well? I am not an Anti-Vaxxer, I just don't subscribe to mass hysteria. All illnesses are serious to some folks, but they do not ask their neighbors for medical advice. Most folks have a family doctor that they deal with and should seek his/her advice, not the news media or a neighbor.

Villagesgal 08-23-2021 11:13 AM

Got both 3rd dose and flu shot at the same time. Per pharmacist and my GP and my Cardiologist it's fine to get both at same time, but I'd ask my own doctor if I were you. No reaction except sore arm at vaccination site that lasted one day.

Daigoro25 08-23-2021 11:49 AM

I agree with everyone who suggests that seeking medical advice in this forum rather than asking your physician is unwise.

I like hearing many opinions, consulting physicians and Pharmacists alike. And then will make my decision.
Your snarky response is not necessary or wanted. Have a blessed day.

I am unaware that flu vaccines are available right now. Usually start to be given late September early October and should be before January. 3rd boosters available now at many pharmacies

Hopeful Returnee 08-23-2021 08:24 PM

I heard on ABC good morning America today from Dr. Jen Ashton that you can actually get the flu vaccine and the booster shot at the same time. The doctor also said that they’re thinking of creating a combination shot that includes both.

jack.hunter00@yahoo.com 08-24-2021 04:41 AM

Ask a doctor

There is probably low risk but clinical trials required a 30 day wait between vaccinations so I doubt there is data that supports this.

Bob.Betty 08-24-2021 07:07 AM

why wouldn't you ask your health care provider?

raynan 08-24-2021 08:23 AM

Red Chariot, My doctor said 28 days between flu and booster. I can't get booster til 11/4 (8 mos after 2nd Pfizre) so I'll get flu shot earlier.

NHsnow1 08-24-2021 09:09 AM

Politicians have once again gotten ahead of the data. The booster is currently only approved for those who have a compromised immune system. CDC had not released any additional guidance on boosters at this time. I would be interested in looking at the science that supports the need at this time.

OrangeBlossomBaby 08-24-2021 09:22 AM

Flu shots are available in most places now. I got mine late September last year so I'll get this year's around the same time.
