Wi-Fi GARAGE DOOR OPENER?
Does anyone have a Wi-Fi garage door opener? If you do have one, can you give details and your opinion? I travel often and would like the ability to close the garage, if I forget it open, when I’m not here. Thanks.

We have this one:
Amazon.com I can operate my garage door anywhere I can get online. If you are wanting wifi only you won’t need a hub. If you want to be able to close/open the door from Albuquerque, you will need a hub. A hub connects the device to the internet outside of your wifi. If you have IPhones you can use an Apple TV box (latest model), or a HomePod mini. You can also use an Amazon Echo. Fairly easy to set up if you are mildly handy and no monthly charges. There are other devices that may have a monthly charge. |

Amazon.com They have slightly newer ones with a camera, I would opt for that if I were buying it today, but this one has been fantastic, specially while we were not living here in TV full time. I could open the door for inspectors, bug people, etc. I also opened it for a cart service guy. I have other cameras so I could see that he left and record who actually took it. The final option I like is the close for the evening option. I have left it open over night until I turned that option on and now if it's open at 10pm, it closes on it's own. Quiet, battery backup and reliable. What's not to love? Connects directly to the wifi and took about 2 minutes to set up the wifi part of it. Installing on the door took about 90 minutes, mostly because I had one short ladder at the time. |

Have Neighborhood Watch close it. :ho: |
We, as well as a friend, have the "Meross Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener Remote, APP Control, Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT, No Hub Needed" we bought from Amazon installed on our MVP Allstar opener and are very happy with it. Easy to install.

I like to keep locks off of the internet.
You can find equipment that is installed in your garage and will close the door if it is left open for x minutes. Might be a problem if you intentional leave your door open a lot as you work outside. |

I purchased a Chamberlain .5 HP from Lowes when it was on sale for $159. MUCH quieter than the AllStar opener that was in the garage. Also can set it to close at 10PM if it's open:
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Chamberlain...ity/1000276739 Installed myself as that's what I usually would do, but in hindsight it was a PITA and if you can find an installation deal it's worth going that route. |

ANY garage door opener can be made wifi. I've done it, there are several options on Amazon to do it, many will pair to your smart home hub or use proprietary apps. Using this approach is superior, in my opinion as you can build in if this then that. If the door is open at 10pm, close it, if it is garbage day open the door at 7am and turn on the hall light to remind me. Your imagination is the limit. And it is cheaper and easier than replacing the entire opener.

Allstar MVP with… https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chamberl...B750/301887758 It is one of the best changes I’ve made to my house. Soooo much quieter, and if I drive away from the house and can’t recall if I closed the door or not, I can close it from my phone. It will do much more, but those features alone are worth it! |
I replaced my much hated MVP with the chamberlain B6765. It’s the WiFi with camera 1 1/4 horsepower. Installed it myself.
Love it! The WiFi feature allows me to open/close/monitor/speak and listen to anyone in the vicinity of the camera from anywhere. Camera quality is good. The led lights are super bright. The motor is very quiet. Easy to install - easy to set up the WiFi. NOTE - the old mvps use a 120 volt motor to lift the door. Most all new openers use a 12 volt motor. The 12 volts are not as strong. If u have an oversized door with maybe insulation attached - or other items attached to it - anything less than the 11/4 horse may not properly lift it. |
myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Control - Wireless Garage Hub and Sensor with Wifi & Bluetooth - Smartphone Controlled, New Design, myQ-G0401-ES, White Amazon.com
Have this one from Amazon. Easy to install. Control the door from app on phone. Set mine to notification me whenever door is opened and if it’s left open longer than an hour. |

You don't need to buy a new door just to get wifi/app control. But, if you do want to get a new opener, get 1 much bigger than 1/2 horsepower. Later on, if you want to insulate your door, you will burn up a 1/2 hp in no time. Done it, and friends have done it. Chamberlain has a nice 1hp opener with wifi with a backup battery so if the power if off it will still open the door, nice feature.
Back to app control of the door. Thats an easy way to do things but a hassle. What do you do if you have 10 different wifi objects in your house that you want to control: thermostat, door locks, ring doorbell, lights, etc... Do you want to start 10 different applications on your phone to operate them? You want to build a smart home that combines all smart devices under 1 app and you can control each device thru Siri without touching your phone/iPad/computer. Another benefit is to have this smart home app have "scenes" so you can either say "good night" or schedule the command to close all garage doors if open/lock all doors/turn off all lights if on. You can do this anywhere in the world. I use apple's HomeKit along with an Apple TV hub and homebridge on my computer. I had control of 2 houses until I sold the last house. |
I installed the myQ from Chamberlin and it worked nicely for a while. I successfully used it several times to give entry to contractors while I was up north. Unfortunately, the last time (a month ago, four months after installation) I received an error message when trying to close it after a furniture delivery. Ultimately I was unable to determine whether the door was up or down and had to contact a neighbor to check (it was open). Moral of the story…install a camera to verify door status and know your neighbors because both the WiFi opener or camera could fail.

Works perfectly and the belt drive is quieter than the chain. |
Meross wifi garage door opener will operate both garage doors with 1 unit. Good app as well
|
I have a LiftMaster opener that uses an app called MyQ. The garage opener connects to your home internet and works fine.
Here's some info: Smart Access System for Garages | LiftMaster |
I have 2 Nexx Garage door openers. You attach them to an existing door opener. The phone app reminds you if you leave it open. You can open and close them anywhere. I had an issue and opened my garage door for my neighbor from here in Wisconsin. You must set them up on a 2.4 ghz wireless network. Most routers including Xfinity will work on 2.4 Ghz, BUT Xfinity sets them up for 5 Ghz. You need to have them turn on the 2.4 Ghz on the router. It will get a separate name but can use the same password. If you have your own wireless router you need to set that up if not already done. The phone app for Nexx is pretty cool. They have videos on how to install and set up the opener, and they are pretty good. They are also smart device compatible. Nexx Smart Garage Wi-Fi Door Controller NXG-100B | Nexx

WIFI garage door opener
I have 2 liftmaster openers at my home in Michigan that required the hub and a single unit (now a Chamberlain) on the Village home that was a newer opener that did not need a hub, the hub was built in. They are all on the same APP on my cell phone. (Chamberlain took over for Liftmaster). You can open and close from anywhere in the world, see when they were last opened and closed, see if its open or closed now, they offer camera add on's on the newer units, use it as your garage door opener if needed. After leaving home, do you ever ask yourself "did I close the garage door?"

I have the Genie Aladdin Connect that I stalled on my AllStar MVP opener and it works great. Use it from my phone or with Alexa (need to use voice code for security). Ro-mac and others told me it would not work, but it does and is an easy install Here is a link to it on Amazon. Amazon.com

Ditto for Meross
Ditto for reply #7. Meross is easy to install, set up, and works from anywhere in the world.
I have a Wyze outdoor cam in the garage so I can also see what happens there when I open the garage door for someone. |

Chamberlain Garage Door
I have the same garage door. Opening/closing the door via my cell phone is fantastic. I get a notification on my cell when the door opens or closes, plus I can check my app to see if I actually closed the door when I left. Great buy!

You know I’ve forgotten to shut my garage door before after I got 2 states away & I just called a neighbor to have them shut it. Even if you had a WiFi garage door opener, how would you know for sure if you shut it or open it, unless you have a camera pointed at your garage. Me personally I liked the way I did it, have a neighbor shut it for you. Then I would know if it got shut for sure! I’ve already hit the door opener button twice & opened it when I thought I shut it.

Garage door WiFi controler
I have a My Q controller back north. Purchased from Amazon. Fairly reasonable and easy to install. We got tired of leaving the house, getting a couple of blocks away asking each other weather we closed the garage door. Now we just check the smart phone from any place.
Also when u check the status of ur door it tells u weather it’s open or closed as well as how long it’s been in that position. |
I had the following in our home back in Michigan, gethttps://www.amazon.com/Smart-Garage-...where2getit-20, it was hit and miss, had more negatives then positives. When we purchased our first house in the Villages I installed the Chamberlin smart garage door openers, worked good, but I would recommend to have it installed, needed new brackets and some other modifications that did take some extra time and money to install. When we purchased our new home in the Villages, we had the Linear LDCO852
Smart Garage Door Operators installed from the builder ($100 each upgrade). I really like this system, the garage door slows down just before closing, like a soft close, works great and is as quiet as the Chamberlin and has scheduling of door and light operation, including timed, automatic door closing and Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, HomeLink and IFTTT. I would recommend either of the garage door openers above, better having the smart controller built in then having an add on based on my past experience. It is great to know if the garage is open, and GeoTrigger opens the garage door automatically when we get close to the home, and also nice for deliveries. We do not use a press remote, everything is operated from our phones. Just FYI. Good Luck |
