The Villages weather forecsting
 

Does anyone know which service / station or 'company' that The Villages uses for it's weather information? I've noticed that they are either forward thinking, lucky or have a great service because for rain or storms in particular, they lower the retention ponds days before any storm so as to allow 'storage' space for runoff.
There are other times when a storm is predicted & no retention pond 'activity' is taken, leading me to believe that they have better information than any of the weather 'fraudcasters' we have access to are giving out.
The typical 'fraudcasters' we have access to, for a long time, have been subscribing to the "Chicken Little.... The sky is falling, the sky is falling" line of forecasting. I don't know about anyone else, but.... when Irma came thru a few weeks ago, those were the 2 best days of weather that week! All that buildup about our destruction here, & for us here in The Villages..... Nothing.
Any information, ideas, preferences, recommendations?? I have tried all the sites I know of.

Pretty difficult to forecast for a precise location, depends on many factors, like how big and heavy is that cloud, how fast is that wind etc. when I sailed in races we used to watch where the edge of the cloud was as conditions would change just under it. In Formula 1 they can tell which part of the track will get how much rain but even they are not always accurate. What I do is get the closest weather stations in TV from Weathercloud, and generally they’re pretty good at getting it right. If we are due for extreme weather, flooding, hail, hurricane, tornado, my NOAA radio goes off (real loudly.)

the weather app on my iphone is pretty accurate.

Irma was in 2017 and was pretty intense here in The Villages. We are in the Fruitland Park portion of the Villages and lost power for approximately 21 hrs

The FOX weather app does pretty good and their radar goes FORWARD about 5-6 hours, whereas Accuweather and the Weather Channel apps go back a few hours which does no good for the future.

I’m pretty sure he meant IDA, not Irma.

NOPE, he was correct. IDA was this year, Irma was 2017. And in the Village of Charlotte, we did not lose power except maybe a flicker...

I go out in the mornings around 4:30 - 5:00 and get my paper.
If it's wet, I know it's raining. If it's DOUBLE WRAPPED I know it's going to rain.
My paper girl is very seldom wrong.

This is Florida so I use the look out your window method to determine the forecast and I’m more accurate than any weather app

Weather reporting has always been exagerated. It attracts more viewers/listeners if they say a hurricane will flatten the entire Villages. Its easy enough to weed thru the reporting and see whats going on. As far as them having more info than they report? Obviously they arent holding back about the severity of the storm. Again, thats what attracts viewers.

start by turning off the Weather Channel. they NEVER have any forecast of nice weather, everything is doom& gloom, and FL weather is just weird -it's sunny here, but raining across the street.

Definitely Irma! We never lost power in Briarwoos however we knew people across 42 lost power for DAYS!!

Meteorologist get a bad rap IMHO. They do save lives especially in areas where tornadoes are common. So many variables and quick changes in Florida make it difficult to always get it exactly accurate. Recent scientific analyses of the Farmers’ Almanac is about a 50% accuracy on long term winter forecasting. 50% not bad but you can do about the same flipping a coin!

Yep when there's a hurricane, tornado, blizzard or flood the weather forecasters go into a frenzy. Just like in the movie "Perfect Storm". Jim Cantore and Al Roker are in their heyday standing out in a hurricane.
Oh and by the way, my paper was double wrapped this morning and now it's fixing to rain.

My weatherman is the neighbor across the street. When his garage door starts to come down I KNOW it’s going to rain.
