Massey has not cut my grass for 3 weeks

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable mowing company?

Number 10 GI 09-15-2021 09:10 AM

We are on our third mowing service in less than 3 years so can't offer much help. Three weeks isn't bad, the second service we had didn't mow it for 5 weeks blaming rainy weather. Have a young guy now that push mows and so far has been quite reliable, time will tell as they all start out good.

PugMom 09-15-2021 09:15 AM

Deans comes 2x a week, faithfully. the prices are competitive, give them a call to see if it's right for you

Koapaka 09-15-2021 07:11 PM

Gotta wonder if maybe Massey should not be putting more of their advertising dollars (full page ad in todays paper, just received a mailer today from them addressed to "Current Owner") into an operations manager that ensures they are meeting the needs of current residents and keeping them vs trying to find new business....:(

That's interesting. I had Dean's for 7 years prior to dumping them and they came EVERY OTHER WEEK. I have Massey now and they come every Thursday, haven't missed once in a year

Same story here, I had Massy first. I have been through 3 in 2 years. I am back to doing it myself.

Deans really comes 2 times a week to mow? Growing season we get once a week mow, rest of the time they come out do trimming and mow when needed. We do have some in our neighborhood that is using Massey and lawn looks like it hasn’t been mowed for a month.

arbajeda 09-16-2021 04:49 AM

Have you called them? Are they still charging your credit card? If so, have you disputed the charges? If you have done none of these, get going! If so, call Dean's. They come every week for me and the few times I have had an issue, I've called them and they have been very responsive.

rlcooper70 09-16-2021 05:26 AM

This happened to me last summer - someone had quit and Massey seemed unaware for weeks. Weird isn't it?

Oneiric 09-16-2021 05:34 AM

This is a common complaint you will hear more often. Most lawn companies have a shortage of reliable labor, never mind good, and are overstretched in maintenance commitments. Over the years, I have found no perfect answer to this problem.

Agree all companies seem better at getting customers than keeping them - all seem good at first - PAX is a perfect example - promise you a perfect yard - then after two visits - they may or may not show up - worst lawn service ever

Hello fellow Illinois resident. I lived there for 64 years. Owned a furniture store in Joliet for 30 years. Been here 10.
I use Oxford Lawn and they have been there every single week, never missing. They let you know if it isn't cut if temperatures are so high that grass can burn.
Their phone is 352-446-3497.
Good luck.

The more accounts in one place the more incentive it is for them to keep them. Find someone cutting your neighbors grass and see if they can cut yours also. I'm on our 3rd in 2 years, not easy to keep them.
Hey I'm from Mt. Prospect, and Rolling Meadows also, by Randhurst.

Following. Looking for our 4th service in 4 years. They start out good and quickly fall behind. It seems that part of the problem is the companies we hired (all recommended by friends) used “independent contractors” and the company doesn’t even know when these guys last mowed! Now the excuse is “staff shortages.” But no shortage in staff who does their billing!

I'm incredibly happy with Dean's. They were at or a little below other estimates that I got and they have been responsive and dependable. They have a customer portal that I have used 3 times. Each time they responded by first thing the following morning. They mow and edge weekly and do fertilizer and insect treatment every other month. I saw that our back yard had numerous brown patches and used the portal Monday evening. I got a response Tuesday morning, and a technician was at my house Wednesday morning, diagnosed the problem as a kind of earth worm, and did a treatment on the spot. 👍👍

PennBF 09-16-2021 08:26 AM

Massey

We also fired Massey because our lawn looks like a cow pasture. When we complained we received all sorts of excuses however 2 things remained true: (1) it continued to look like a cow pasture and (2) I was still paying Massey for a good lawn. Have replaced them with Dean's and look forward to seeing the lawn restored to what it once was.:ohdear:

There are tons of small independent mowers. Ask your neighbors who they use and are they happy with the service and price? Mowers love to sign up new customers within a few doors of an existing customer because it saves them time and money. We have three houses in a row with the same mower and it keeps the price low.

Andrew Seppers; 586-354-7792.... he mows weekly using hand mowing

Made a mistake in signing up with Massey two months ago for weeding and trimming. I paid $200 up front and another $125 for the first month. Not one shrub has been trimmed nor one weed treated. Hey Harvey, you promise "Expect more and get it," which I read as "Expect more and get shafted." I'll probably cancel all our other Massey services now and buy a small heard of goats...

charlie1 09-16-2021 04:59 PM

We dropped Massey about 18 months ago because of extremely poor service. Even after MANY calls and MANY Massey promises that they would fix the problem, they did not get it done. Gave them a little over a year to get their issues corrected. Our lawn became a total mess in the year. Changed to Deans! They were more expensive but I am EXTREMELY please. They brought our lawn back and it always looks good now. Like someone else mentioned, they respond to questions usually by sending someone to see what you are asking about first hand. If there is a problem, they treat immediately to correct the problem. Would definitely recommend.

I really like to help people who are jacked up as far as finding a good lawn service or being helpful with other things. Several years ago in a similar post, many people praised a certain company. They were absolutely flawless. They did as good of a job as if you did it yourself. Well, our praise really worked. Many people signed up with the new company that we all had promoted and whatdoyouknow? These people praised us for the tip and the new customer praised the company and well, the company turned to compost. They missed several weeks in a row. They double billed/ The faces of the lawn maintenance engineers changed constantly. No disrespect intended. I really do mean that but not in a mean way. Find your own company. Our company is very good and it will be a secret unless you are a family member and then I'll only tell you if I like ya!

RICH1 09-17-2021 05:14 AM

If you want top quality, call Colonial Landscape. 352-804-0787. We used to use Massey but they never showed up. I’d rather pay more for better service than pay someone cheap with a homeowner mower.

Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah, I did. I called them on Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday just to be put on hold each time for over an hour. No lawn cutting. Termite Control. They are now Dead To Me!
Are they cooked? I hope not. They take care of a lot of our neighbors flawlessly.

Hard to find help especially if you don’t pay a competitive wage. 1st Rate Lawn service. 352-530-2482. They have done an excellent job for the last six years. Not sure if they are currently taking new customers.
