Very Disappointing

While driving my golf cart to the Sarasota driving range, I noticed the attached picture. Someone intentionally stopped their golf cart and placed an empty Starbucks coffee cup on the curb. Who do they think will pick up this trash? Obviously these are not kids, or non-residents. Why do they live in this community?

If this is the way they chose to live, please go back to where you came from.

Probably left there accidentally after walking their dog or stopping to text. Giving the benefit of doubt. However, agree some think the whole world is their trask can. Especially some smokers. Just saying…

JMintzer 09-19-2021 12:47 PM

Must be from (insert State/Region you don't like here)...

I hope you picked it up and put it in the garbage.

"Obviously these are not kids, or non-residents."

I'm am truly curious as to how you know this is "obvious". Seems like conclusion jumping is 2nd nature for some people.

I tend to agree with you. To think that someone who was prepared to litter took the time to stop their golf cart, get out and then carefully set the coffee cup down seems a bit far fetched. But hey, a dog walker forgetting to retrieve their coffee after cleaning up after their dog doesn't fit the narrative here on TOTV.

"Conclusion Jumping" is possibly the most popular means of exercising in The Villages!

I hear it will be an Olympic Sport in Paris...

It seems to be increasing in frequency lately when I am out walking. I have decide to take a plastic garbage bag with me for now on and pick up any I pass. Normally my hands are full with my camera and other nonsense, so I am using a kitchen bag that has the tie built in, and looping that in my belt.

Sadly, it seems many American's are slobs, and have no pride in our country. I lived about 15 miles outside of town before I moved here. That seemed to be exactly how low it took people to drink their soda from the drive through. Sharon and I had to do weekly walk arounds and pick up all the litter - we even found dirty diapers people had tossed out of their car windows and onto our road easement.

Pride seems to be in short supply.

There is a lot of younger adults out driving carts. Last week at Bailey's Trail and Buena Vista I was approaching the gate house and a cart with a couple of 30 year olds, never stopped and crossed the road right in front of me. They have the stop sign, cars do not. I had to slam on my brakes, he was right in front me and stopped. He turned and put his arms out, like look at me, what are you doing. I gave him a loud verbal comment, "golf carts don't have the right of way, cars do".

Maybe it should be checked for fingerprints and DNA.

Djean1981 09-19-2021 04:20 PM

I agree, intentionally littering would likely result in the cup being thrown in the grass.

Calisport 09-19-2021 04:59 PM

In larger cities, you may get whole jack in the box bag, drinks, cigarette butts and garbage thrown out windows of cars. They don’t even stop their cars. I like the trash on a bus bench when a trash can is 5 feet away.

We started coming to Marion County/Ocala/Villages in 1994 when my inlaws first moved to the area. We always commented how clean things were in and around the roads around 484. It's all changed it's starting to look like where we came from in certain parts of the NorthEast some people don't give a crap where they dump litter.

Ele201 09-20-2021 04:48 AM

Could be anyone!

Really it could be a resident or visitor to the golf area. And it could be a kid, or young adult. Sorry, not sorry, but some that I’ve seen around have no manners. Anyway it strikes me as immature and selfish, which could be any age.

You are living the good life when the litter is a Starbucks. Is the second cup of coffee free at Starbucks?

tsmall22204 09-20-2021 05:01 AM

There are those with no sense of community.

Rwirish 09-20-2021 05:02 AM

Seeing more and more of this in TV.

thevillages2013 09-20-2021 05:08 AM

Was it still hot?

GOLFER54 09-20-2021 05:45 AM

He or she probably realize how terrible that coffee tasted and were afraid it would eat through the cup, so they ditched it as fast as they could.

thevillagernie 09-20-2021 05:53 AM

you're paying to have someone pick up trash....so you might as well dispose of it yourself. m morris once said

Folks come here because it is beautiful. It is so because the folks that LIVE here keep it that way. Most will even pick up litter to keep it that way. Unfortunately visitors may not have that sense of community. I am not speaking of snowbirds but sporadic renters (and not all of them either). Also the tradesmen that work here have no skin in the game. They don’t live here. If the cup was intentionally left by a resident then perhaps they need to revisit why they chose to move here. If it was left by a visitor they might be better served by remaining in the pigsty they came from. If it was a tradesman we need to identify them publicly

Why would you waste a minute of your life taking a pic of an abandoned coffee cup?? I seriously doubt someone stopped their cart n placed the cup. Did you ever think they got distracted doing something and forgot it? Im sure if they meant to discard it, they would have just tossed it.

Luggage 09-20-2021 06:38 AM

There is a street in Leesburg that I drive down to and every single day there is stuff dumped on the side. I emailed the sanitation department and learn that no matter what they pick up, it gets trashed again that week even with two signs that say no dumping. The head of sanitation told me he carries large garbage bags and pics in his own car to pick up garbage as it can get so bad sometimes. Unfortunately you can't help human nature.

Waltdisney4life 09-20-2021 06:57 AM

I’ve done that when finding trash in the middle of the path while walking with no desire to carry it with me, hoping a kind person in a cart will pick it up.

merrymini 09-20-2021 08:04 AM

Apparently, the rest of use have to suffer because of the stupid narcissists among us. Can you understand the anger?

KYtoTV2021 09-20-2021 08:48 AM

Well, let's call out the FBI. What's next -- spitting on the sidewalk?

NewRealms 09-20-2021 09:11 AM

Did you pick up the cup or leave it there?

Bwolf1 09-20-2021 09:53 AM

If they are like me, when they realized it was gone, they couldn’t remember where they left it.

Obviously a drug drop-off method! Alert authorities immediately!

HORNET 09-20-2021 11:04 AM

Most people are pigs, must be we are getting them here

kcrazorbackfan 09-20-2021 11:13 AM

It is very disappointing to see the mess all the filthy pigs leave along the MMP’s and roadways, especially the damn blue masks. Now some of you will say that it probably blew off their cart, but I’ve never had I have one blow off my cart because I always put it under the card holder.

I would hate to see what the pigs homes looks like.
