Home Insurance
Time to compare some prices. I have Tower Insurance now. Who do you have?
|
Called a few agents for quotes Three months ago. my multiple quotes were all equally offensive with rate increases. You have to hope somebody actually wants to write policies in Florida
|
Try contacting AAA they have access to several insurance companies. We currently have Progressive home and auto, bundled.
|
We have progressive homeowners and every May I get apples to apples price quotes from at least 3 other carriers and none have ever been close to Progressive's rates.
|
I have Progressive for homeowners insurance and Allstate for auto. Both companies have had only small annual increases in the past 5 years. I have found that you don't always get the best price by bundling policies. They tend to overstate the actual discount. I once had an agent tell me that their multi-policy discount was 25 percent, but when I did the math, it was less than 5 percent.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. |
I have Progressive and my Policy price for the next year starting 10/27/2021 went up from $1700 to over $2400 for the same coverage I have this year. Exploring other options, I have heard that the reason rates are highly driven by the roofing replacements. Even though I did not get a new roof, I am being charged the pool rate that is being assessed to have insurance companies recover what they gave paid for new roofs.
Checked several companies and find similar raises for equivalent coverages. One way I am told that I can reduce rates is to change to a 2 per cent deductible for hurricane coverage. Even though we usually don't get hurricanes here, the definition (A named storm) qualifies as a hurricane even though the local area is outside of hurricane winds. Thus if we get a small tornado spawned by the named storm, it falls under the hurricane deductible. |

My brother is trying to close on his manufactured home an they can't get there loan unless they find insurance that is reasonable. I don't think $4300 is price gouging . The mortgage company said they have never heard of a price like that in 20 plus years. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated

Generally speaking just tossing out insurance prices is really meaningless because there are so many variables from home to home. Only answer is to keep comparing. You can always cancel a policy with very little penalty when you are under less pressure and find a better deal. |
We have Tower as well through The Village Insurance. Not looking for anyone else.

State Farm bundled with car & golf cart. They took a 10% incerease this year.

My suggestion is to use a broker for the best prices. I use All-In-One located near Best Buy. I had Progressive for my car. They wanted to increase by 16%. I called All-In-One, and they found me Travelers for less than I was paying the previous year.

Your best bet is to get quotes from a broker...i.e., someone who can quote rates from multiple insurance carriers. A captive agent (State Farm, Allstate, etc.) can generally only write policies from their company. There are way too many variables involved, making generic comparisons of what you pay versus the guy across town meaningless. Keep in mind that a fairly significant factor in rating an insurance policy is your FICO score. While it may not seem fair, the fact remains that your credit score has a lot to do with what you pay for insurance.

Kin is a broker .

I had Tower hill also and this years rate went up $600, I checked out Farmers Insurance and if i bundle my auto insurance with my house it was almost half the price on my house insurance with only $500 deductible including hurricane coverage instead of 2 %.
The auto insurance was the same amount tho which came out to the same as progressive which i had covering my 2 cars. Try Farmers combining insurance you will be surprized at the savings !!!!! |

I use Allstate for homeowners, they have better sinkhole coverage
Same as your HO deductible |
We had AAA for several years after moving to TV. When they raised our homeowners, we called Southern Insurance Group in Clermont and got a much better rate. A year later when our auto rate was raised, we again got a better rate from Garrett Johnson at Southern. Been with them for more than 6 years.

the key is to call direct AND set your own limits on contents to 30% of house value. Stay away from village stuff |
Quote:
The contents coverage should be no more than 30% of house value - lose the replacement cost because it’s NEVER replaced to make you whole |

Kin is not a broker, Google them. |

With auto insurance, a lot of companies, even Allstate, only offer 6 month policies. What are the downsides to a 6 month policy (vs. 12 month) besides having to deal with renewals twice as often?
We have always had 12 month policies. |
AAA but would definitely price Farmers

Got an email from Progressive to pay my renewal (2 months ahead of time). Very unprofessional and my rate increased by 25%. Couldn't reply to the email and my Fruitland Park broker has not returned my call in 3 days. Getting other quotes so everyone's input is appreciated.

Read the fine print on progressive. They offer a one time discount to make their policy look less expensive and suck you in. Then the price goes up

This thread has led me into getting a lot of knowledge of Florida home insurance, and none of it is good.
Quote: Florida home insurance has completely changed this year, anything you thought you knew is probably not in effect this year. The insurance companies do not want to insure roofs under 10 years old and if you have already had a claim on a roof that is the death of your insurance unless you want to put on a new roof. I guess it's time to call Scotts Roofing company. :super: |
I have Frontline Ins in Lake Mary, $826 yr for a 2021 sq ft Lantana. Had Tower Hill, they had a large increase, had American Integrity, ended up in a lawsuit, and won.
|
Since I had to make a claim on my roof I guess I’ll be looking for new insurance, soon too if Harbor Coastal decides to punish me. What interests me, beside the cost of the premium, is how is the insurance company about paying out claims? Not all of them pay out easily or at all, from what I hear.

I have never filed a claim! I pay my premium annually. My insurance premium increased about $590.00 or a 28% increase in 2021.I suggest you stay will your current insurer. I am having a very difficult time getting insurance coverage on my home because the roof is more than 10 years old. Tower Hill is a Florida company doing business in Florida.I plan to contact the Florida Insurance Commissioner to voice my anger, concern and disappointment with this company. I believe all the roofing claim scams in The Villages over the last years have created this problem. Those of us who did not participate in these claims are now subsidizing and or paying the price for these roof replacements! Shop around for other insurance coverage. You may be better off staying with Tower Hill....until they send you a nonrenewal letter. ast year |
