Please tell me it's not true!

I read that some one was in a sports pool and while talking to another swimmer was told they had purchased a "pass" for $80 which gave them a pass to use various facilities in The Villages including even sports pools? They said they lived just outside of
the Villages. Are they now selling passes to person's not living in the Villages to use the various facilities. If true, can anyone guess the impact of all of the Apartments being built on the village squares, facilities traffic, and many many other things. Back to my original
question. Does anyone know if buying passes is true?:ohdear:

bagboy 09-30-2021 08:07 AM

Are they now. Who are the "they" you are referring to?

Call District Government info line
Customer Service Center
Phone: 352-753-4508 •

Let us know what you find out..........

Bilyclub 09-30-2021 08:38 AM

This was already hashed out on nextdoor several days ago. Supposedly happened at the Colony Cottage pool. Somewhere in TV a guy is having a good laugh over what he started.

njbchbum 09-30-2021 09:00 AM

I agree with calling District Government Customer Service 352-753-4508

It would not surprise me, though, that some unscrupulous resident might have secured a guest pass for the individual if they had an address beyond the tri-county area or lied about a familial relationship to get the pass and then charged the person for it!

Sports pools are residents only, minimum age of 30 years old. Guest pass holders are not allowed in sports pools. Unfortunately, it is extremely rare that anyone checks ID’s during open swim and lap swim times. It is not unusual to see people in the pool while swimming laps that don’t appear to be Village residents. I wish they would have ID checkers at the sports pools at all times. Getting an open lane to swim laps seems to be getting increasingly difficult since Covid.

How does one "appear" to be a Villages resident? How does one "appear not" to be a Villages resident?

Papa_lecki 09-30-2021 09:35 AM

Does anyone really think the villages would “sell” access to all the amenities for $80?

That would effectively destroy their business model and the value of the houses.
Their business model is built on the lifestyle, not the house.
So now, someone can buy a house in a neighboring community and have all the benefits we pay $150/month for? I am calling a foul on that.

Prediction, this thread will continue with thousands of comments.

YOU are so right. It is a foolish rumor repeated on here from the fount of many rumors; Next Door. Seems that now Men have discovered GOSSIP. And STARTING STUFF. (I usually spell stuff differently.)

tvbound 09-30-2021 09:49 AM

Only $80? Darn, they charged me $100, but since it included free championship golf - it was worth it. LOL

charlieo1126@gmail.com 09-30-2021 09:51 AM

That rumor is like a Ponzi scheme that changes a little each time , I’ve heard this rumor every 3 or 4 years and like Ponzi Schemes if you stop and think you know it can’t me true

The only time I have been ID-checked at a sports pool was when I was showing it to my mother-in-law who was visiting.

We were clearly not even planning to go swimming :)

PennBF 09-30-2021 11:47 AM

Simple Question?

It was a simple question to determine if this unfounded rumor had any legs. Of course this draws the wise guys out along with some who just can't resist making a fool of themselves however a thanks to those who understood it was a simple question meant to clarify a rumor that was being floated around. :ho:

Your first statement was a dead giveaway that it was a rumor....
]I read that some one was in a sports pool and while talking to another swimmer was told they had purchased a "pass" for $80
Talk about first and second story telling....
BTW which reply post did you accept as the answer???

Control and Consequences

You can't make this stuff up. If you ask a simple question based on something you heard which did not sound logical you open yourself up to the group that are challenged when it comes to the ability to understand and comprehend subjects that go beyond a 1970 comic book. A number of residents will not use this great communication instrument because as they say there are a set of "bullies" who pride themselves in their actions to make fun of the users . You know who they are! They are the ones who keep watch on the material in TOTV and strike at users to discredit them and their questions. The unfortunate part of this is that some good questions or advice go unasked to avoid that group. Maybe if on the first clear attempts to disrupt participation in TOTV results in that person being denied access. It would be greater to have less participation in the posts and more positive participants than more bully participants and less meaningful interchanges of ideas and questions. We have used TOTV for many years and this has
been getting worse as times go on and the bullies grow as a larger group of the total. Since there are no controls for this group and no consequences their interference and behavior will continue to grow out of proportion to the total positive users. :ohdear:

I still don’t understand how people can feel bullied or angry in a site full of strangers and can’t figure out people having fun with some of these posts and you must remember the old saying, Ask a silly question , You get a silly answer . Lighten up it’s all fun or just turn on the tv and watch reality shows

charlieo1126@gmail.com 09-30-2021 04:57 PM

And for those that have felt bullied in there life, how would you like to be a barely 16 year old American as a new replacement in 1954 to the first foreign parachute battalion of the French Foreign Legion in Vietnam full of violent people from all over the world and including many Germans with the SS bolts tattoo cut out of there arm because the SS were about the only people the legion-wouldn’t take at least on paper and your looking at almost 6 years to go I can tell you a lot about real bullying lol

I don't want to cause problems, but I heard from a friend in Tampa whose friend lives in TV that if you are new to TV in 2022 they were waiving all fees for the entire year and giving an extra pass for any friends that live within driving distance of TV. Unfortunately, those extra passes expire in 2029, so can't count on those being good forever.

Direct from Guest ID guidelines.

“ A resident who has a son, daughter, grandchild or great grandchild (and their spouses) who reside in Lake, Marion or Sumter counties may apply for an in-area guest ID card.)”

It is $80 a year. I know someone who has one, but I don’t think they are supposed to use the sports pool.

cathell62 10-01-2021 05:08 AM

Limit the gossip! If you want an answer, call the source. Call the District gov recreation office. There's nothing like putting on a band aid on something that after the gossip will be that someone ended up in ICU for a scratch.

Good Suggestion, but some posters love to create rumors, spread rumors, stir the pot.

And if you believe that one there's a large casino going up next year that the local Leesburg Indians are involved in right here on route 468 or was it route 44 or was it route 27

This person knows what they speak of! Also Colony Cottage checks ID’s for the volleyball players at the sports pool. I don’t know if they do it all the time but I have seen them going back to their car/cart to get the ID before they were allowed entry.

SO NOT TRUE....read John Rohans response to this garbage.

PennBF 10-01-2021 05:43 AM

It's true

So under certain circumstances $80 passes are available to persons not living in The Villages!! Where are the wise guys now who made fools of themselves denying such a thing existed and making fun of the question. They are the same ones who are hiding under a rock, will try to pretend they were joking or don't admit to being part of the crowd that should be denied access to TOTV. I believe some responses to this question represent some major violators of the basic rule of intent to actually respond to a member's question and there should be consequences!.:ohdear:

It has probably been going on for a very long time. People involved in printing and issuing passes have always had access to them and can give them away to family and friends or sell them. This is happening at golf courses too. Have you heard the story that a guy forgot his ID and the starter told him to go home and get it and he could start as soon as he returned. Man accidently replied "That's a 50 mile round trip." Another incident involved someone from outside The Villages using a dead Villagers ID. How can it be stopped?

Very hard to believe that those issuing passes are so dishonest. This is a very serious accusation……..you have proof?

I probably missed it but, reading all the pass info I could not find where a fee of $80 applied?

it’s a very limited amount of people with relatives in the immediate area it’s no secret it been going on for as long as I’ve been here and had nothing to do with apartment people as for the illegal sales where there is a willing buyer there are always sellers

I could not agree more, too many here hide behind 'humor' or 'sarcasm' to make seriously demeaning posts about anyone and everyone, just because they can. Childish really, probably parents of younger social media bullies never teaching them common courtesies and truisms like, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". I don't like shutting down free speech, but perhaps setting up a 'free for all' TOTV forum where anything goes would draw these mean-spirited posters away so the rest of us can converse civilly, just a thought. (flame suit on)
