Deer sticking tongue at me...
I tried a few times and could not get this bucks both ears listening to me, something behind him had his attention - or, maybe he just knew I wanted to take his photo, and so stuck his tongue at me and kept an ear pointing back as if to say - neener neener...

When cats do that, they expect treats. Maybe you looked like a “treat” kind of person.

You've been posting some really great pics on here lately and also interesting content - thanks!

I haven't seen but one deer near Sanford in the almost 8 years I've been here. In the tidewater area of Virginia they were all over our golf courses. :):) |

Great pics.
Brings back memories from Long Island. The Deer would swim across the Great South Bay to Fire Island. Deer running on the beach. One of the funniest memories. |

I'm crushed........not really. Venison is very healthy. It is a very lean meat, and non-GMO..:duck: If you haven't tried it, prepared properly of course, then you are missing out on a very good meal. :mmmm: Today, in the age of NON-aged beef, it is hard to get any real flavor from a roast. Venison is the way to go. Especially, if that buck or doe has been subsisting off of a farmers corn field. |
Some people are vegetarian, not me I come from a European hunting background, but I respect their choice. When you look into the beautiful eyes of a doe it’s hard not to want to protect them.

I agree. My post started out as a joke, but I have been known to eat venison throughout the winter months in years past. I do not enjoy hunting, as I love animals, but I would help clean the deer and prep it for freezer storage and eating. I am 100% for thinning the huge deer population by open season hunting and high limits. And my grandson shot his first buck when he was 11yo. His father had the head mounted. ALL game that were/are shot in our family is consumed, other than pests such as skunk, groundhog and fox. I do take pride in being a very good cook when it comes to venison, and I have done pretty well with squirrel also. But, like the rest of you on here, I love a beautiful photo of a deer. They are so graceful, it's hard to believe that they are over populated and cause so much damage in traffic. |

Venison is a bit more "gamey" tasting than beef if you have never had it. But, then we raised chickens for 10 years and ate them and their eggs, and now we can't eat chicken from the grocery because to us it has no flavor or texture. I think for the most part it comes down to what you are used to. I like alligator tail burgers, but I can't get my wife to even try one. |

I almost made a joke about liking a little "tail" once in a while..:1rotfl:. To be honest with you, it's been a long time since I had any alligator, and never had a gator burger. :coolsmiley: |
strange how such a lovely thread turned into a discussion of 'food.' lol. Sir, this is one of the best shots you've shared with us! thx again :)

What a beautiful shot. Thanks for posting it. We are from a wooded area in Arkansas and had deer in our yard quite often. They were always a joy to see, and we miss that.
