Vehicle of Choice
We're in the market to replace our SUV and wondering what you drive and if you
like it. Any suggestions? |
2017 Ford Escape. Had to replace the tires at 30K miles and the battery. I like the built-in navigation, but the new models don't offer it. Bummer. No major issues at 40K miles. I hate that the engine shut off at every red light, but that feature stopped working, so I no longer need to deal with it. Way cheaper than a Honda CRV.
|
I love driving my 2017 BMW X5 50i which I bought in December of 2016. I may update with a 2022 X5 M50i if I can find one.
|
my camry hybird. 50 mpg, love it.

Toyota RAV 4. Got my first one in 2008, still have it. As of today have 104,500 miles on it. Only thing that has needed replacement are tires, everything else is original. In 2015, my sister (aka The Wicked Witch of the North) talked me into a Lexus RX. Nice, but a gas guzzzler. Traded it in, and got another RAV 4. Great mileage, very comfortable, just the right size.

For an SUV, we like our Toyota Highlander though it's a few years old and I don't know what newer models are like. I see someone recommended the Rav 4 - that is another that we would be looking at.
If you don't need an SUV and are looking for a nice, everyday car we really liked our Toyota Prius. 50mpg at 200,000 miles and still running well when we traded it in. Oil change, air filter, and tires were the only maintenance items we needed. |
2015 Hyundai Tucson middle of the road model and we love it. Zero issues with this vehicle. If I ever need another vehicle, think I'll check Hyundai out first. I never thought I would ever have said that, but that's how I'm thinking now.

I bought a Highlander in 2015...absolutely love it. My wife bought a Honda CRV in 2017, and it fits her well. She is only 5' tall and the side mirrors on
the Highlander are dangerously high for her. She could lose a UPS truck in the blind spot they create for her. For me, being fairly tall, not a problem. The Highlander has been a stalwart. The CRV (turbo model), not so much. Lots of issues, and Honda is notorious for ignoring their screw-ups. I'll never buy another Honda. Lease, maybe, buy, never. Having said all of that, I wouldn't buy anything right now. Supply is dreadful, likely to worsen before it improves. If at all possible, unless money is no object, I'd keep the old buggy and wait for things to normalize on the supply chain before I bought anything. Good Luck! |

It required a pair of wire cutters to make it work properly-not at all. Tires-between the hot roads and the round a bouts tires do not last as long here as elsewhere. |

Games are common in the auto industry. From other posts it seems to have been getting worse due to short supply. I've not shopped. I no longer drive much. This is October. If, you buy a 2021 it is last years model when you sign the paperwork. I expect supplies and prices will improve in a few months. |

automobile world. It's hasn't got all the safety gadgets that are out there today and think god got that. It still lets the driver do the driving. |

I am on my third Nissan Frontier four wheel drive pickup truck. All have been very dependable and have gotten over 200 thousand miles out of the first two and the current one is approaching 100 K.
|
I drive a F350 which I love. My wife is driving a Nissan Murano which she loves a lot.
|
Wife and I drive our Volvo XC60 Lux, which will be 12 years old next March.
62000 miles on clock, so barely run in, and still looks immaculate. Never let us down, but needs a fuel tanker following behind to keep it topped up. 25mpg on a good run. The 3 litre lump in front turns it into a wolf in sheep's clothing when required! But we love it, super comfort, and I am sure it will still be going strong when we are both a distant memory. |

Just bought a 2019 Porsche Certified Cayenne SUV and love it. Still had 2 years left on original new warranty and the Certified added 2 more. Paid 61,000 from Porsche of Ocala. Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Consumer Reports as well is US News Reports on line all have their ratings. Let us know what you get and why.

Subaru Forester if you want driver headroom
|
2020 Highlander Limited... Quiet and comfortable with all of the modern safety features. Two rows of seats vice three, so lots of room for backseat passengers. Good value at the time just below the premium brands.
|
Nissan Murano. On our 2nd one. Great ride, safety features roomy cargo area and reasonable gas mileage. Bought from Jenkins Nissan in Leesburg. Best dealership i have ever dealt with.
|
2019 Chevy Blazer. So far so good. Nice vehicle
|
RAV4. This is our 4th one and every one has had close to 200,000 miles on it when we sold it. Never had anything done (other than routine oil changes and the like) but brakes and tires as far as expenses are concerned. Getting 33 MPG highway with our 2021.

Everything
From all the replies here you can see that there are many choices that people like from small to large and that probably will be your deciding matter. As seniors most of us like smaller cuz there's somewhat easier to drive but again that's up to you. Right now I would not buy new has the markups are ridiculous and everything is in short supply. We bought the last three cars from carvana.com and the prices are up front with no games not only that you can trade it in and know your price but just entering your VIN number which may surprise you as being more valuable than you think. As far as our choice our last car was used being in a Buick encore small SUV we got a 2018 essence trim which has just about all the safety features Lane change back up in front morning beeps etc . Traveling and use cruise control common thing to look for is the automatic intelligence speed Cruise that slows and speeds up according to traffic, we do not have that but then we don't commute everyday like we used to, there are also two or three other major internet retailers you should look at, enjoy your purchase time and really test out two or three different models. I don't have to tell you to get your financing in place first which of course is much cheaper than it's been 5 or 10 years ago and also make sure you know what your car is worth from carvana and one or two others has that still where most of the dealer profit comes into play
|
It was such a bad decision that many companies put in switches on the dash to turn it on or off. My Buick has it but does not seem to really affect things much other than the air conditioning turning off also for one minute at red lights. I truly expect do you need a battery much sooner than later but that's the trade off isn't it silly

2017 Volvo XC90
We have had a few different SUVs over the last 10 years....and have found the Volvo XC90 to be superior in luxury, ride, room and performance. We are very happy with our Volvo.
|
I just got a 2021 Toyota RAV4 from deLuca Toyota in Ocala. It was about $3000 more than suggested retail, but they gave me $9000 more in trade than my car was worth one year ago. Love the new one.
|
I have driven Ram 1500 4 dr cab for years and love them.
|
Subaru.....woop de doo!!!!!!
|
Honda CRV Touring.

Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator have the highest resale value
Buy a new Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator and you can drive it for several years and sell it for close to your purchase price. These Jeeps have higher resale than any other SUV. My 2015 Wrangler trade-in value was just a few thousand less than my purchase price in 2018. Carvana and Car Max are currently quoting purchase prices close to the original price I paid for my 2018 Wrangler.
They’re fun to drive, have thousands of accessories and can tow 3,600 lbs with a Wrangler and over 7,000 lbs with a Gladiator. Take it anywhere including off-road trails and the beach! |
We love our 2019 RAV 4 XLE; it is as roomy and smooth riding as our old 2006 Highlander that we sold in 2016.
|
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited... Best vehicle I've ever owned...
|
Ford escape
Battery and tires are regular maintenance on any vehicle as far as the engine shutting off read your manual there's a switch on the dashboard that turns that feature on and off and you probably activated it and now it's off but still works !
|
I’ve had the 2019 Ford Edge and 2020 Ford Escape and loved them. No issues. But then I decided I want all the Bells and Whistles and got the 2021 Mercedes GLA 250. Small but loaded with power. Only drawback is if you pull it as a toad on a dolly for a motor home you have to disconnect the battery or else the anti theft locks the emergency brake. Great gas mileage too. Had a 2016 RAV 4 that was great too but didn’t care for the Safety rating.
