Question

Last evening I attended a show at the Savannah Center. At the end of the show , we attempted to exit thru the side door. We we stopped and told that we could NOT exit thur the side door and would have to exit thru the front door. When I questioned "why not?" I was told that it was a Fire Dept. rule. I question that explanation! can't use and exit? Has anyone heard of this before?

dewilson58 11-07-2021 08:13 AM

:22yikes::22yikes:

Maybe call the Center and ask.

Maybe the door has an alarm.

Maybe it's not lit well enough.

Maybe it was muddy from all the rain.

Maybe it's not staffed.

Most fire exit doors have an alarm on them.

bagboy 11-07-2021 08:30 AM

We were promised we could always exit through the side door. What will -they- take away next?😉

Sometimes employees make up their own rules.

If by "side door" you mean the one facing El Camino Real, that one has never been closed when I've been there

Not sure about the door, but what did you think about the show?
I thought those guys were incredible singers, but some of their comedy skits were head scratchers. I would have preferred they do more singing and less joking.

Yes!

Yes! Very common for years all over the country to control entrance and exit areas for fire, safety, security, traffic, etc.

fdpaq0580 11-07-2021 05:02 PM

Maybe?

Maybe they only knew those songs and had to do other stuff to fill the time??
Sorry I missed it.

thevillages2013 11-08-2021 06:38 AM

I am only allowed to go in and out the back door according to my agreement

mkjelenbaas 11-08-2021 07:25 AM

Why not call the fire dept to get your info?

Villages Kahuna 11-08-2021 07:50 AM

Must be a new rule. We’ve parked on that side, purchased seats close to those doors, and exited there for years. They often won’t permit people from exiting before the show is over, but never stopped us after the last number is over.

I’d better call before purchasing more tickets.

gwenhwalker@yahoo.com 11-08-2021 08:02 AM

Up until this season always allowed to exit side door. Helps with backup of everyone exiting same place

Rwirish 11-08-2021 08:22 AM

Great show, great songs, great singers. The patter was to tie the songs into a sort of story. If you want to hear great singing and little joking come to the Village Pops Christmas concert at North Lake Presbyterian on Dec 6. Some of the same singers joined by over 100 more plus a band.

I can tell most people who are whining about this post have never attended a show at Savannah. The “side doors” have always been open at the close of a show, to assist in emptying out the venue in a more orderly manner. Without those doors open, there would be a HUGE bottleneck of people going out the ONE small door at the entrance. I can’t imagine any reason to NOT allow people to continue to exit out the side doors unless there is some construction work being done on that side..which is a possibility.

We attended a concert months ago. A couple with us attempted to use that same exit and were told the same. I wonder of it's a way to make sure everyone leaves the building where cameras capture the outgoing crowd. Just a guess?

I always go out the same door I came in. It’s bad luck if you don’t.

raynan 11-09-2021 05:38 AM

The side door at Savannah Center has been closed since the first of the year because of too many falls by people exiting according to several different ushers we've spoken to at the shows we've been going to since March.

davem4616 11-09-2021 05:47 AM

I always need to use the men's room by the end of the show....so I'm heading out the same way I came in

dewilson58 11-09-2021 06:50 AM

Please stop with the “we were promised….” You usually have not been promised…..you may have been told by someone who didn’t have authority or you are just looking for your own seal gratification.
