Copied Documents
I copy a lot of our important documents when spending time outside the house traveling.
EX: I copy Covid 19 cards, vehicle registration and title, birth certificates etc. because I don't want to loose the original's. My question is: How legal are they if I had to show proof that I am who I am? Will the police accept copy's of my vehicle title and reg. if I'm stopped for speeding?? How about proof of our three Covid 19 shoots? (unless I'm Aaron Rodgers.)......LOL Your opinions Please |
Seriously doubt if a copy is legit for most if not all legal purposes. The security risk of having multiple copies floating around would concern me more. Just carry the originals with you.

Vehicle title and registration. You may want to ask the police about that. It may be different in different states. Today all, true police have computers in their car. They can probably confirm the information from the numbers on your registration copy. Speeding? I would assume they could lock you up for no registration if a cop is not valid and if they choose to. Covid shot proof? I would bet by now you can purchase fake ones. Heck Amazon will sell you a service dog vest for a useless mutt. |
Florida will begin to issue and accept a digital drivers license this month! It will be accepted as official ID by Florida authorities including police. Your success in other states will vary so keep your original with you…
There is a handful of other states that already have issued digital ID’s. I do not know if these ID’s are yet accepted at airports but I expect they will be. However, please note that your home made pdf file is not official or the same and will probably not be accepted. I have used my homemade pdf copies in Asia without problem If you received your covid shot at a florida pharmacy and have an apple iphone, you can go to the pharmacy website and download an official digital copy of your vaccination and insert it in your iphone digital wallet. I did that for my covid booster shot from Walmart. However, my first two covid shots were from Sumter County and they do not provide digital copies. But they will print out an “official” (but not so much official looking) paper copy of your vaccinations upon request https://www.flhsmv.gov/floridasmartid/ |
Ok, what happens if you don't own a smart phone??

I think, for most purposes, a copy is acceptable, except for a drivers license or other type of personal ID card. In Florida, vehicle titles are all electronic now. There is no official "original" vehicle title, but you can print one out or pay 10 dollars for a paper copy at the DMV.

Police will not ask for your title. :ohdear:

Here's another problem with keeping your registration in your car.
If your car is broken into, your address etc. is there to see. |

I was in Cape Town in 2001, January on vacation. A case for making copies of everything was a travel partner was robbed at knifepoint at night near the Capetown wharf. The 3 guys took all papers, money, credit card. I had escaped by running but came back to save my travel partner and grabbed a copy of a passport from the robber's hand. The cruise ship accepted the printout of the passport since the actually passport wasn't taken off ship. The Cruise ship photo card was stolen though. I would think police and others would understand if you lost or had stolen IDs. Covid test cards - I don't think are important unless you are flying out of country.

I take a picture of those things and store them on my iphone. Always works, except for my passport. Need the original, not even a copy will suffice

the state of Florida is developing a mobile driver license – Florida Smart ID. Florida Smart ID is an optional, application-based version of your driver license or ID card, which can be downloaded on your smart device. It is not simply a photo of your license and does not replace your physical driver license, which will still need to carried when driving. Which brings up the next question: What is it's purpose? Just for ID ? In 4 years here never needed just plain old "ID". |

Eventually they will laser blast them into your retina or inject them with your flu shot so all they have to do is scan your retinas or stick a magnet on your forehead and you won't need a phone. To see how it can be done watch the movie Fantastic Voyage from 1966. They had it all figured out back then. :1rotfl: |
Registrations are always in the cars, titles are in the house, COVID cards are on the visor of the car, birth certificates are in the house. All originals, no copies. I will take my passport sometimes but nothing else.

For such a free country, ID is an obsession in USA.
In UK there is no lawful requirement to carry any identification whatsoever. Police cannot ask for ID, unless there is an arrest. You have to produce ID to prove age if buying booze and you look younger than 18. The freedoms of socialism!:) |

Go back to sleep and finish the lucid dream….. |
Auto insurance cards are on my phone and are legal, according to a Leo. Birth and death certificate must have official raised seal, or it’s useless, that would be a fact when traveling for hockey and fast pitch softball tournaments.
Covid card have been bought and sold on the net for a long time. Other than your name there is no proof it’s a legitimate card. So guessing game on who is requesting |

Carry your original vaccine certificate the way you carry your original passport (and original driver's license). Losing these would be a problem. I carry the two together, in a "small purse/wallet on cloth strings" hung around my neck (like a necklace), and tucked into my belt so it is not usually visible. Paper copies of Covid tests are accepted around the world. I do not actually know if they would have accepted a paper copy of my vaccine card since I presented the original. I kind of doubt that they would have. I've never had a problem with a paper copy of any other document when travelling. You do not have to have a smart phone contract to take photos with a smart phone. So you could just buy a very cheap smart phone - maybe $15. Even such cheap phones have cameras. However, I consider photos on my phone "back ups" since phones can be lost. I want paper copies as well, and keep the paper copies separate from my phone. |

. copy of covid vax in our wallets. Also, I make a copy of all credit cards etc (front&back) on one copy page, keep in our safe. Just in case wallets are lost, stolen - easy access to all card#'s and phone #s to notify banks. . . |
