Comparing $1 Million, Billion, Trillion - Wow

Found this on-line it checks out to be correctly calculated.
If $1.00 is spent every 1 second, how long to spend; $1 Million, Billion, Trillion ?
$1Million = approximately 12 days
$1Billion = approximately 31 years
$1Trillion = approximately 31,688 years
Wow!!!

retiredguy123 11-10-2021 01:23 PM

I don't know how you would spend a dollar every second. It seems impossible.

I believe I could lose a million in the stock market in less than 12 days...which wouldn't make me happy

Many people who have won a million dollars in state lottery payouts are now BANKRUPT

tophcfa 11-10-2021 06:59 PM

A million is way too much debt for most individuals, a billion is too much for most companies, and a trillion is too much for most countries. 30 Trillion is way too much debt for ANY country.

The point that I keep posting. Hitler's propaganda minister called it the big lie. You say something over and over again people parrot it and assume it makes sense. Few dare to see our debt is incomprehensible. Many fear others assuming they are stupid, uneducated etc. I see clearly that I do not comprehend a Trillion let alone 30 of them.

Even the term millionaire. It used to mean you have a net worth of a million dollars. Today, far as I can tell, it means you earn a million dollars a year.

Found this little tid bit of information: A trillion dollars laid in the same manner would stretch for 96,906,656 miles, a distance farther than the sun. If you laid one billion dollars side by side like tile, they would cover about four square miles.

So with a 1,000 billions in a trillion, a trillion would cover almost 4 thousand square miles. That is just incomprehensible, and we are working on a 30 trillion dollar debt.

Topspinmo 11-10-2021 08:46 PM

1,000,000,000,000,000, will so be this much. it’s only paper on paper. Don’t matter how many zeros are on end when you can just print up paper.

If few short years we wish we just had 30 trillion debt.

Have you looked up our national debt?

Luggage 11-11-2021 05:56 AM

There used to be a famous saying by apala Titian that spend about a million here another millionaire and soon you have a lot of money spent and we came a billion here and a billion here there and then you became spend a trillion here and a Trillian there but my question to everybody is what comes after a trillion? The answer is bankruptcy for a nation

donassaid 11-11-2021 05:57 AM

Here's another perspective. A billion "minutes" ago, Jesus was walking among His disciples in Jerusalem. Think about that and that 1 trillion is a thousand billion.

Putting a "Trillion" in perspective using "seconds"

60 seconds was 1 minute ago
3,600 seconds was 1 hour ago
86,400 seconds was 1 day ago
2,592,000 seconds was a month ago
31,104,000 (that's 31 Million) seconds was a year ago
31,104,000,000 (that's 31 Billion) seconds was 1,000 years ago
1, 088,640, 000,000 (that's 1 Trillion) seconds was 35,000 years ago. Neanderthals were still walking the earth.

Polarlys 11-11-2021 09:14 AM

Many years ago in Readers Digest one of their page bottom briefs mentioned this exact subject. Basically it was if you had 1 million dollars and spent one thousand dollars every day it would last approximately 3 years. If you had 1 Billion dollars and again spent one thousand each and every day it would last approximately 3,000 years.

Kinda puts the zero's in perspective.

I saw this calculated a little differently but with the same resulting numbers. It said, "if you were to count to 1million, 1billion, or 1trillion by seconds (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.......) that is how long it would take. The purpose is simply to make you aware of how much more 1 trillion is than 1 million or 1 billion. Amazing!

When you talk money your rarely get the truth. Years ago a friend told me his son in law won the lottery. Making it simple but close to reality. There were ten guys who pooled their money and bought lottery tickets. They WON 20 million dollars. So simple math, 2 million each. SURPRISE the fine print, it is a 20 year payout and they take out the taxes before you ever get the money. Since it was a pool, it was decided to take immediate payout so it was not 2 million. Truth, I do not know. No my son in law. I was told his son in law received less than one hundred thousand on a 2 million dollar win.

Imagine the phone calls. I've been meaning to call you since third grade. You remember I let you copy my homework. I saw you won the lottery. I am having some financial trouble you have gotten sooo much could you lend me $$$$$$$$. Of course I do not intend to pay you back.

Not sure what you are saying. As far as our national debt, you can look it up as the national debt.

As I've said most people simply do not, cannot comprehend a Trillion yet we toss these numbers around like we do understand them. If, it is 28 Trillion or 30 Trillion, it does not matter, once we dare to see that we do not comprehend one Trillion.

Bay Kid 11-12-2021 08:59 AM

It is now all funny money.

The truth is that lotteries are probably the most egregious violators of the FTC rules for deceptive advertising. But, the FTC does a terrible job of enforcing their deceptive advertising rules against all companies. My favorite deceptive advertisements are the ones that claim something is "free" when it is not free.

The way our government is spending money right now we'll all be hearing a new term soon, quadrillion... When a trillion just isn't enough!
