Golf cart registration

I have been in the villages for a few years now. During my trips on our golf cart there have been many reasons it would be helpful to be able to identify a golf cart. (Report an accident, vandalism, theft, reckless driving, carts from outside the villages using trails, just to name a few)
Maybe it is time to register each golf cart and have a type of license plate for identification??

tophcfa 11-19-2021 11:18 AM

No, no, and definitely not. More fees and ways to be monitored. Very bad idea.

metoo21 11-19-2021 11:30 AM

No, No, No. Then the plates will be stolen and someone would have to pay to replace them. More money out of someone's pocket for doing what is required. And who will monitor/ticket those that don't comply?

villagetinker 11-19-2021 12:23 PM

This has be posted and 'discussed' a few times, I feel your pain, but probably not practical.

Ahhh...bigger government and involvement. NOPE! Bad, horrible and utterly insane lack of common sense idea. Don't forget to chip everyone so we can tell where they've been and where they are....perhaps video cams on every corner and satellite coverage.

Gots to agree with M1.

Perhaps you might consider investing in a dash cam that could be permanently affixed to your cart to serve your identification needs.

stadry 11-19-2021 04:42 PM

oyvey is mere !
more regulations yet...soon enough sumter cty will see $$$ & enact such on their own...we'll also have a golf cart commissioner & his/her govt employee staff

npwalters 11-19-2021 04:43 PM

You may want to revisit the comments made when you asked about this on June 12. I don’t think you’ll get any different answers this time around.

Are you serious? Yes, lets register them so we can pay for tags, annual renewals, annual safety inspections, (what? you added something to your golf cart? - that is not authorized), and better yet - lets start a property tax for the golf carts. Ok, sorry - I went there.

tsmall22204 11-20-2021 06:59 AM

No, no, no. Please take that idea back up north where they do that kind of thing.

Either rules or vigilantes. You pick.

Only the street legal golf carts require a license plate and registration. Golf carts in general are considered more like a bicycle than a vehicle.

That's what we need, more state registration fee!

MrFlorida 11-20-2021 08:55 AM

No thanks, we have enough regulations .

Thanks for making me realize how lucky to have my cars in Florida and not have to waste a day at the gas station to get an inspection….and pay 50 bucks for nothing.

Waltdisney4life 11-20-2021 09:59 AM

And so the Socialism begins in the villages

jleonard 11-20-2021 10:15 AM

I would rather see them spend the money to Bluetooth the entry gates and eliminate the physical car pass.

So, paying fee will help.

DIRTYSECRET 11-20-2021 10:27 AM

I've got a better idea. Give 10% of the homes in the Villages to disabled vets. The other 90% of homeowners have time to support and show their appreciation. How do we 'give' them away? Since everyone living there has taken care of business over a lifetime they can donate their homes. They've already got one foot in the grave. Totally voluntary. Might take a decade or 2. No need for government involvement, just an adjustment in the rules.

Let's see. 130k people living there now. That would make room for 13k vet couples.

Yessss!! I think vehicles should have a barcode pass on the window.
We had them in Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Va. and they worked great.

metoo21 11-20-2021 10:46 AM

Just call Joe @ (845) 542-7365‬ and he will come to your home, clone your gate pass and stick it inside the driver mirror on your car. Then you drive up to the gate and it will magically open. Don't have to keep up with those white cards. Best $25 spent.

Speedie 11-20-2021 10:58 AM

Carts are not like cars. Instead they are considered more like lawnmowers. No license tags

Too many senseless rules creates rebels and rebellion.

JKELLYNY 11-20-2021 11:38 AM

NO NO NO! Insure cart on your own, put an old license plate on it & be happy & free!🇺🇸😘🙏🇺🇸

llaran 11-20-2021 12:11 PM

Peachtree city in Georgia regulates golf carts, it's a golf cart community of 38000.

Dennys37Packard 11-20-2021 01:41 PM

Here’s an idea, YOU put your name and address, phone number, email, and shoe size on the four sides of YOUR CART, so we can report you if you do something we don’t like. Otherwise, stop reposting this nonsense. I don’t need more big brother looking over my shoulder, taxing me more, making it easier for idiots to report someone that didn’t smile at them or was going too fast for your liking. Go find something else to occupy your time.

conman5652@aol.com 11-20-2021 01:57 PM

Let’s start with register vehicles. It seem that village people didn’t buy vehicles with turn signals. R they forget and just cut u off

justjim 11-20-2021 03:06 PM

Careful what you wish for

What really needs to be registered are bicycles and electric cars pay road tax.

Take note of bigmike's lack of participation.
He threw the bait into the pool sitting back watching the foaming froth!!!
Not a good idea!

Bigmike18 11-22-2021 09:57 AM

I am the person that started this thread. It was intended to begin a discussion. I made the mistake to think a discussion forum is to share ideas and thoughts on a subject, without ridicule or sarcastic put downs.
After many participants share there ideas and views on a subject, than a logical path forward can be taken.
It seems that “the regulars” on this site are not interested in any discussion, only there opinion.
A while back I witnessed a person driving a golf cart at a high rate of speed crash into another cart in the Brownwood area. The person backed up and drove away. When the owner of the damaged cart came along a few minutes later, all that could be shared was ,”it was a tan Yamaha cart “.
I guess person freedom is more important personal responsibility.

Mortal1 11-22-2021 04:44 PM

Look folks.... you mostly all have smart phones yes????? take a bloody photo of the supposed offending cart!!!! Is that so effing difficult???
